Regimental Organization
The NCC assigns 5 battalions per regiment, with a NCC battalion being about the size as a Russian one. Generally, veteran and private chapter platoons are distributed throughout battalions as per availability. Field artillery is integrated into battalions as a NCC regiment generally needs to be a self-sustaining force. A regiment is generally commanded by a Marshall or Major.

The Infantry

Line Infantry

Around forty percent of the NCC's total forces consist of line infantry. The average line infantryman is issued M19 Decatur Pattern, a muzzle loading .55 caliber musket that is accurate to approximately 75 yards. In addition he is issued a nine-inch power bayonet.

The majority of most modern military forces are composed of line infantry, these being men equipped with linear muskets and trained to march, as it were, in lines. This particular approach is required, as the linear muskets have an accurate range of about 50 yards, thus requiring that they be fired in volleys to achieve any appreciable effect upon the enemy. Linear muskets are essentially a form of railgun which propels a round at extreme speed towards a target.

Because of the obvious issue involved in marching shoulder to shoulder in an environment filled with explosive bullets flying through the air at face-melting speeds, some protection must be provided to the infantry. This exists in the form of the kinetic shield, which converts kinetic, x-ray, and various other intense concentrations of energy into sound and visible light. The result is that when a weapon, for example a musket round, strikes the shield, it promptly expends all of its energy in the form of a loud noise and flash of light, the sudden cessation of movement is frequently rather damaging to the round itself as well, of course. The shield design has several weaknesses, in that it does not protect against low-energy weapons, for example, arrows, thrown objects, and enemy soldiers themselves, unless they are wearing some form of energized armor or wielding energy weapons of some kind.

Skirmishers

However, due to the NCC's relatively small population, as well as the fact that its' Private Chapter troops are generally employed as specialists in foreign armies, it relies heavily on less traditional units such as skirmishers to help make up for the smaller size of the military. Due to the NCC's wealth and industrial capacity all of its' units are well-trained and well-equipped, with emphasis on marksmanship and rate of fire. The Infantry generally thinks little of close combat because of the fact that they would soon be overwhelmed. As such, many soldiers choose not to carry swords at all, only bayonets. The NCC does however, employ a fair amount of heavy infantry mixed in with its' standard line infantry units to help anchor their gun lines as well as provide some much needed extra firepower.

NCC Skirmishers are generally issued the M27 Minnesota Pattern, a breech-loading .88 caliber hyper-low velocity rifle as well as other mission-specific equipment.

Air Corps
The Air Corps of the NCC is the newest, and one of the fastest expanding and modernizing branches of the NCC's diverse military assets. Originally chartered in 3312, the Air Corps was designed to take advantage of rapidly improving shield technology, and to deny a strategic asset to the ever-present threat of the FSA. The NCC's fleet consists primarily of fighters and strike aircraft, mainly biplanes with the new, monowing PF.8 Lutefisk gradually being phased in.
