Zones of Zero Return

OOC: Think of the Real World wonder known as the "Bermuda Triangle, where thousands of vessels have gone into...but never returned from.

In the Commonwealth of Goltzborg, there exist an area of approximately 110 sq miles of sea off of the eastern coast, where hundreds of ships and planes have come up missing over the last one hundred years or so.

The people of Goltzborg call that area the "Wicked Waters", and the government of Goltzborg has officially named said area as one of several "Zones of Zero Return"; with two other similar areas located inland....one in the Dead Sea, and the other in the Mandra Mountains.

Is there any so-called "Zone of Zero Return", or any similar area of mystery, located in or near your nation's coastline, or in the moutains, or in the deserts of your nation ?

If so, please give the name, and tell everyone a bit about the history of such zone / area.

The Kingdom of Darmen is located inside the Bermuda Triangle.

That would be the Tyrannosaurus Graveyard, an immense flat area covered with the bones and rotting corpses of dead Tyrannosauruses located on the planet Mesozoica. It is a major gathering point for the local T-Rexes, and anyone who dares venture there is typically torn apart. Those who survive come back with wounds and there were some reports of female Tyrannosauruses apparently being subjected to sexual assault by some very horny males. This happens during mating season only though.

an area in the northwest corner of the nation were we used to test nuclear weapons on populated towns, special types of radiation have reacted violently with aviation fuel causing planes to randomly explode when entering the area, over 132 planes were lost before we new what was happening. over 1000 citizens have dissapeared in the "BRNT site" supposedly the radiation mutated them into degenerate beasts. our solution, nuke the place even more to rid the zone of mutants and set up a huge wall around the Branriech Nuclear Testing site

In Yuktova, there is one places where mysterious things happen. This region where disappearances happen, is called the Ethereal Plain. This land is mainly farm land, with little urban areas. Planes often disappear. This was believed to be because the spirits of our ancestors were possessing pilots if they did not preform special rituals before take-off. It is now to be because since we are so close to the south pole, that there are constant magnetic shifts. This confuses the pilots, who then run out of fuel in the Antarctican Ocean. Still, to this day, pilots preform ancient Native Antarctican rituals before they fly into this zone.

25 miles south west of our captial of New Putin lays a old town called Haven. Af ter a good part of the population disappeared the town was put on lockdown,and one by one the rest of the town inhabitants disappeared. Now it is government land and is under constant guard by captail police.

This sounds like the Everfree Forest in the borderlands surrounding our nation. Ponies who are foolhardy enough to venture into it may never return. Considering the kind of monsters we've seen venture out of it from time to time, it's no surprise.

Yes, it is called the "Greaterdactyl Isles"; there are three sets of these isles. One set in a the largest crater ocean on Thesiz, One in South-West Gallkio, and one very large group in Kallgio. These Greaterdactyl Isles are were the Greaterdactyls go to breed and raise their young. Any boat, aircraft, vehicle, or non-dactyl lifeforms within 100 miles of these isles are killed by the defensive mothers or by the hungry fathers. There is no mystery behind this, it is purely territorial.

Well, we have the Zone of Excursion, one of the most damned frightening places there is to tell of in Ruskarkand.
People come out crazy, tales of wicked creatures, treasure troves of artifactsand worst of all, the terrifying monolith.

In southeast Sarrowquand there is an uninhabited district known as the Northern Wastes (named by an ancient civilisation that was situated further south of the area). Ever since the first settlers encountered this region it has been considered cursed and no one in their right mind would consider entering the wastes as it is almost certain death to wander within them for more than a few hours.

The wastes are ringed by a mountain range that opens out onto milder hills on both the northern and southern sides and there have been forts placed here since ancient times to prevent anyone from entering, or more importantly leaving the wastes.

The problem is that despite the fact you would have to be crazy to want to enter there has been throughout history a small but steady stream of fools who have attempted to take from the wastes its greatest and most forbidden treasure; the Pariah Plant.

Due to the dangers associated with the Pariah Plant there has been little scientific research conducted on it and the flower is surrounded by myth and superstition more than fact. What is known is that the various components of the flower, the root, the leaves etc, can be used to make euphoric drugs unequalled by anything else the world is known to offer.

Sarrowquand’s drug laws have always been considered lax by outsiders, the government is willing to let citizens make use of any drug as long as they are aware of the risks and remain productive: Any drug that is except the Pariah Plant. Use of the Pariah plant can quickly lead to insanity and a compulsion to seek out the plant in its native habitat, users who have become addicts will attempt to travel to the wastes, even if the journey is many thousands of miles and then sneak in.

In modern times few succeed and fewer are ever heard from again but the early history of Sarrowquand claims that there were several times when hordes of barbaric and insane Pariah users swept out of the wastes to attack the towns and merchant caravans.

The government’s policy is that no trafficking of the Pariah Plant is permissible for whatever reason, including research samples for other nations. No matter what any attempts to move samples of the plant from the wastes must be stopped, usually with deadly force.

The wastes are aptly named because the Pariah Plant itself has laid waste to the environment, nothing else seems to grow or live there and the whole area is a wretched dustbowl held in the grip of the Pariah which monopolises every resource available. It is fortunate indeed that the Pariah Plant seems only to occur in the wastes and does not seem able to grow elsewhere.

Skeleton Key, cruise lines refuse service in the area and creepy ship captains with one leg sitting in pubs all day claim to have seen the cursed one. Though the Government doesn't believe in it, no Navy or Coast Guard vessels ever travel though it's widely accepted that it is an simple area with higher magnetic activity, though we will never know.

Well, the WA claims that 17% of our people die from being "lost in the wilderness" but that seems like an exaggeration. Our wilderness is really pretty benign. There have been rumoured leopard sightings but no hard evidence has been found by the Castro-Stalina Expedition, which hasn't been heard from in several days....
