Plastic or Paper ?

Postby GOLTZBORG » Thu Apr 21, 2011 1:43 pm

In the Commonwealth of Goltzborg, the government is actively engaged in recycling of resources; and as such, has required that all retail operations must charge a "deposit" on all containers that can be recycled; such as: consumables which are sold in cans, glass containers, plastic containers, and even some heavy duty ( HD ) paper containers, etc.

The average "deposit" added to the register receipt is 1/10th Gz per each container; which can be refunded upon return to the retailer. ( OOC: 1/10th Gz is equal to 1 dime US )

The government also has required that retailers begin charging 1/10 Gz per each sack that their customers need to carry their purchases home; which has added greatly to lowering the nation's demands for plastic and paper, since a majority of customers now bring their own bags / sacks into the store when they stop and shop.

Do your nation's retailers charge for paper or plastic shopping sacks / bags, or charge a "deposit" on consumable glass, plastic, paper, or metal containers; whether or not required by law, or only
due to the fact that the retailer wants an additional amount added to each purchase in order to pay for the store's supplies of bags / sacks ?

Currently the charging of plastics bags in Minoa is optional, but overall recycling has become a serious topic for decades.

There are no regulations regarding these issues. Some retailers charge a token amount for bags.

No retailers charge for bags. Recycling of bags is highly encouraged.

OOC: Do any of the nations' retailers charge a "deposit" on canned goods, or for the containers of products marketed in glass or plastic ? ( for recycling / a so-called "Recycling Deposit" )

In Darmen all bags must be provided by the shopper and are usually made with cloth. The government places a US5cent tax on all canned goods.

Unnecessary. The state has mandated waste management companies sort all solid waste for recyclable materials and recycle all they can. Laws being phased in to require certain percentage of goods be made of recyclable materials will make it so that by 2050 all waste will be recyclable and recycled.

Plastic or Paper.
Nope.

We encourage our people to use specially tailored backpacks for Dragoons to pack their items. (Whilst made so it does not block the wings, allowing flight.)
If they don't, they have to carry their shit home by hand.

It's not a pain in the ass, we just encourage people to think more efficiently, like how we banned cars because we can fly.

Most Tsvarchivans shop for groceries online and have it delivered, but for those that shop at the physical store the retailer usually charges L0.99 per reusable bag. Individuals that shop at the physical stores usually bring their own bags, and actually receive L0.99 off for each bag they use of their own.

All apartment units in Tsvarchi have individual garbage chutes for different types of garbage, including papers, plastics, metals, etc. Recycling is not something you're paid for here. Returning containers to the retailer will not result in payment of any sort. Recycling is an obligation, and one is not expected payment for doing what it right and expected of them.

Customers often bring their own reusable bags. Some stores offer both paper and plastic, some don't. There are no deposits on anything. Recycling works much like any other business. The recycling companies pay cash for any recyclable materials, paper, plastic, metals, etc. that people bring in.

Grocers in Vermont do not supply plastic or paper bags. It is a standard of the market that the customer will bring their own cotton-made bags.
No, we are not obsessed with Maple Syrup. Speaking of that, Would you like some 100% Pure Vermont Maple Syrup? We have a surplus this year.

ML has never used paper bags. We do use plastic bags, although more and more shops are choosing to charge for bags (none charge more than 5p) to encourage reuse of the bags.
Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
