Taboo Tattoo: Body Art That Makes A Bad Mark On The Mind

Postby GOLTZBORG » Wed Apr 20, 2011 6:11 pm

In the Commonwealth of Goltzborg, the wearing of any body art ( tattoo ) that reflects anything to do with rogue regime of Maxistan is forbidden by law; and is punishable by up to 10 years at hard labour in a maximum security prison...as such promotion is akin to that of being a traitor.

Are there any tattoo designs which are forbidden by law in your nation, or which are so offensive that the so-called "court of public opinion" views as too obscene to be seen, and those who adorn their bodies with such designs are scorned or shunned ?
( OOC: Think of tattoo designs that invoke racial overtones, or hate, or any anti-social feelings )
( OOC: Example in the USA could be the Confederate Flag, when worn in the wrong areas, etc )

Most tattoos considered offensive to view in public as they tend to be located in the more private areas of ones body, all in all are they not forbidden however even if most people consider them something that only bandits and sailors would use.

Body art is unregulated by YellowApple unless it depicts something slanderous or insulting of YellowApplan government, YellowApple as a whole, or The Administrator. This is punishable as a "threatening crime" and will result in revocation of citizenship status and designation as an involuntary servant.

Fascist and nazi symbolism is illegal. Punishment is 2-3 years in Labour Camp, and the respective area is either flayed or the imagery is removed with acid. The first for nazi imagery, the second for fascist.

Nothing is taboo according to the government where body art is concerned. Certain images may have societal pressure though.

Forbidding specific types of body art would be unconstitutional, so we do not.

However, tattoos are seen with such negative connotations in Tsvarchi that there literally is not a single known tattoo parlor in our nation. You occasionally see people with tattoos in Tsvarchi, but they are usually immigrants that got the tattoo before immigrating to Tsvarchi, or somebody that had it done by a friend or colleague.

Tattoos are a long-standing tradition in Fatatatutian culture. Warriors in particular are almost certain to have one or more tattoos.

One of the freedoms we value most is the freedom to do what you want with your own body, so telling somebody what tattoos they can or can not have would be highly offensive. It is much like freedom of speech, where no word is as offensive as the suppression of that word.

Body art of any kind is completely legal within the Directorate; In fact, body art is so common that it isn't even considered different from regular art, and is allowed to be practiced freely. The current Archon has six tattoo's on her body, and they are all widely known to the public, and never has she made it evident to hide them.
