The Characters of Azumethronnia
The Azurans of the Imperiate
The Cailene Saharuvermn of Azumethronnia is a vast hegemony consisting of two distinct parts: the Eastern Imperiate, or Methronnia, and the Western Imperiate, or Azura. The Empire was formed through the marriage of Caius Anaximander and Avox Sauzarum, the dissolution of the Saeculum of Azura, and the Amalgamate Civil War. This factbook is dedicated to the study of the main Azuran characters present in the Azumethronnian Imperiate. They are considered important enough characters to help shape the New Empire from within, at least in the Western Imperiate. All were former members of the Cailene Empire elite before the merging of the two nations into one vast realm.
As a note, the demonym 'Azuran' is a general title given to any man, woman, or child who is born in one of the eight Commonwealth-Prefectures of Azura (Métropolitain Azura), though the demonym may be unofficially applied to a resident of any one of the twenty-four colonial possessions (Cosmopolite Azura) at the time of their birth. More properly, there are five recognized ethnic groups recognized in Métropolitain Azura. While numerous minority groups exist throughout the nation, these five groups are the most common, and enjoy the widest dissemination of their cultural heritage and mores of any group in Azura.
The Cailenes are the largest such ethnic group in Azura, representing almost 32% of the total population. Cailenes are members of the Romanic Ethnolinguistic Family, having emigrated from Caileania around the second century B.C. On average, most Cailenes are Caucasian with light or medium toned skin. The Articans are the second largest ethnic group in Azura, also coming from the Romanic Ethnolinguistic Family. With 19% of the population considered Artican, the ethnic group displays much lighter skin than Cailenes do, and primarily speak French rather than the Cailene Language. They arrived in Azura during the Artican Conquest of the twelfth century C.E.
The Britannicans are a group of Germanic peoples that began to arrive around the third century C.E. With 14% of the population in Azura claiming Britannic ancestry, the group has helped spread much of its culture throughout the vast Empire. Britannicans are fair-skinned, and speak English as their primary language. They are one of only three ethnic groups to receive protected language status (along with the Articans and Cailenes). The Axidonals are the fifth largest ethnic group in Azura, representing 10% of the total population. As a Christian ethnoreligious family, the Axidonals have a wide degree of variance between Semitic-speaking peoples (comprised of Hebrew, Aramaic, and small Arabic linguistic sects); the Indo-European speaking peoples (comprised of Greek and Cailene linguistic sects), and the Altaic-speaking peoples (comprised of Turks and the Mongolic linguistic sects).
All four ethnolinguistic families present in Azura are naturalized ethnic groups, dating as early as the second century B.C. and coming as late as the nineteenth century C.E. The fourth largest ethnic group, and the lone indigenous population are the Native Azurans, also known as First Azurans, Indigenous Azurans, or by the colloquialism Sanctumites. Representing 12% of the overall population, the Native Azurans belong to the Ticonderonan ethnolinguistic family, with twelve independent tribal nations forming three core subset groups: the Asaph'o-speaking peoples (comprised of Garuvan, Itupevan-Nazarene, Maua Poan, Velhan, and Venezan linguistic sects); the N'kinar-speaking peoples (comprised of Caneian and Ruan linguistic sects); and the Pol'hon'art-speaking peoples (comprised of Checotah, Cullowhee, Etowah, Nantahalan, and Pisgah linguistic sects). The skin color of Native Azurans depend on their tribal ancestry. Members of the largely-coastal Asaph'o subfamily are usually darker skinned, while the mountain-dwelling Pol'hon'art subfamily typically displays much lighter skin color. The Caneian linguistic sects resemble fairer members of the Asaph'o subfamily; the Ruans resemble darker members of the Pol'hon'art subfamily.
