Some sectors can employ people as young as 15, if those individuals have filed a request to be transferred from school to workplaces (mostly teens who simply hates theoretical education and would instead get into work as quick as possible). Most who start work that early reapplies for schooling after a year or so however.

We don't say that Children cannot work in certain environments, we simply say no person can work against their will or be coerced nor exploited to work in any work environment. It is quite common for children as young as eight to take odd jobs in their free time, since the "allowance" really doesn't exist in any discernible nature in the Republics, they have to in order to buy things. Common jobs are delivering packages, shining shoes, cleaning shops and selling home-baked goods. It is logically believed that showing children how hard it can be to make a dollar, save their money teaches them to be more fiscally responsible and hard-working.

Of course, depending on the case many parents would prefer their child to concentrate on his or her education, since in many ways especially to the poor a child earns a great deal back to his parents for focusing on schoolwork first.

It's technically legal for a new Decepticon to work at any age, but culturally, it's HIGHLY frowned upon to send someone to labor before he reaches an age near to mental maturity. For us, this is around 4 years old, which is equivalent to the human mental age of 15-16.

Sending someone to work before he's even sapient (under 2) is technically legal too, but *that* will certainly get you blasted. Using a Decepticon as a mere piece of nonsapient equipment is an insult to the entire nation, and you will find that the entire nation will become your lethal enemy if you dare to try it!

In practice, new Decepticons stay home until they reach full maturity at 5. Since our "work" isn't usually the wage-earning kind, but the dodge-missiles-and-raid kind, it's too dangerous to send children into it in anything besides emergency circumstances. That said, sometimes an immature Decepticon will be obstinately daring, or worse, end up in a situation where his Coder can't provide for him. In these cases, they tend to go raiding on their own when no gang will accept them. These forays of immature bots have a higher than average chance of coming to a tragic end.

Note: Decepticons are built at full size and strength, so are physically capable of full-strength work from the minute they're activated. Mental maturity, on the other hand, takes a bit longer to develop. Hiring one too young can lead to undesirable consequences for all involved.

Workers under 18 only paid with the corresponding minimum wages set by government, maximum of 15 hours a week with limits of 4 hours per day and 5 days a week, no overtime. Workers are covered by basic insurance, taxed, and given vacation grant three days a month. The maximum contract length is two month.

They are not allowed to work in potentially hazardous to health environment (for example: Uranium mining facility) or works that extensively require physical abilities.
