Legal recognition of marriage was abolished in Makaar in 2006; thus, all children are viewed equally in the eyes of the law and each is entitled to an equal share of their parents' estate after death if the parent left no will.
Makaar is ranked 323rd in the world for Most Dedicated Public Healthcare.
Makaar is ranked 272nd in the world for Largest Welfare Programs (per capita).
Makaar is ranked 408th in the world for Nicest Citizens.

It's never come up, so we'd have no idea what would happen.
Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
Frequently used abbreviations: HoS = Head of State; HoG = Head of Government; ML = Mid Lothian; KSS - Kate Stephens-Smith.
Fancy an embassy in ML? Click me for details. (PS - I'll return the favour.)
I am usually rewriting stuff about Mid Lothian - just because it's true today isn't necessarily true tomorrow.

Warning - Full-time Grammar Nazi at work. You have been warned. (I guess that's due to my mum being an English teacher. Also, don't use masculine words to describe me - my name is Rebecca, which is clearly a feminine name.)

We don't make such a petty distinction between married and unmarried, specifically considering the majority of couples are not married at all.

Our distinction is made in the character of the parents and the child.

Can a son who is born as a bastard ( i.e. born out of wedlock ) ever aspire to the top leadership role of your lands and people; or instead, is such position only afforded to those who are of "pure" blood breeding ? ( take into consideration whether or not there is an heir of "pure" blood )

NOTE: Same question could / should be asked regarding a female as well.

A bastard child can only assume the throne under special conditions:

A) The King has died with out a legitimate heir
B) There are no royal family members left
C) The Board of Executives can not find a legitmate heir through a very distant bloodline.

If all these criteria are met then a bastard child may take the thrown. This has happened only once, during the Lemonade Revolution in 1845, when revolutionaires put poison in lemonade and gave it to government leaders. King Elton II, Queen Elizabeth X, Prince Elsworth I, Princess Diane, Princess Emma, Prince John V and the entire Board of Executives where given poisoned lemonade and died, so Elton's eldest son with his mistress Bessie Simmard, wife of Minister of State John Simmard, Eric Simmard took the thrown.

No, only legtimate issue of an monarch may take the throne, if they are no male children to ascend the throne, the eldest daughter does so. Queen Mary II's bastard half brother Henry Fitzgerald attempted an coup to gain the throne, but her armies managed to sucessfully retain her throne

Bastard Children are only allowed an inheritance in the case that full blooded siblings are deceased.

This generally leads to bastards being general bastards.

Our nation is ran by the Head Military official, the Dragoonaet Supremantis Commandant.
If anyone can achieve such a rank, then they are the leader.
This includes actual 'Heirs' of the Commandant, but in truth, anyone can do it, it just requires the seat to be empty.
This means practically anyone, be they 'Bastard' or not, to lead, they just need to ascend, what, more than 20 ranks in the military.
And that's one VERY difficult task, that only the most strongwilled, devoted Dragoons can achieve.
They are the ones that make leaders..

Sorry, did I drift off into rambiling there?
I probably missed the whole point.

Of course, it is common that an heir born out of wedlock or even adopted become the head of state.

No, only legitimate issue can become king or queen. We have agnatic primogeniture (I think...) which means male children are preferenced before female children but females are not totally excluded from the succession. If the line has run completely dry, then perhaps we could consider illegitimate children, but that has never happened in our history
