Today is Founders' Day in the Dominion of Southron. While a relatively young nation, this day celebrates the arrival of the first colonists led by Sir Cecil South on the shores of what would become Southron. In the 359 years since the colonists arrived from the Mother Country, Southron has developed into a successful and stable power.
Many families, noble and yeoman alike, trace their heritage back to the first families to settle the Dominion. This day is a national holiday, celebrated by all citizens and marked with patriotic displays. Many events and games take place outdoors, as the citizen and indigs alike are a hardy outdoor people. The Dominion government allows all non-essential government institutions to close for the day. Many nobles give speeches, and organize free events and meals for the yeomen of their fiefs. Picnics and braaie (barbecues) are very popular, and the night is marked with firework displays.
The Prime Minister Duke Friedle holds an open braai at his estate, welcoming nobles, yeomen, and even indigs alike. The holiday acts as a sort of second Thanksgiving, with a generous series of meals symbolizing the bounty of the nation.
