Military Divisions / Battle Branches

Postby GOLTZBORG » Mon Apr 18, 2011 4:10 pm

NOTE:

Of course, geography has to be added to the equation of the following question, as nations without a coast are most likely to not have a navy; and politics has to also be taken under consideration, as nations which are under occupation and/or control of a superior state are most likely to not have an army, or a navy, or an air force, etc.

Question:.............>

How many military divisions / branches are operational within your nation's / government's command and control; and which division has the highest priority when it comes to preserving and protecting the properties and people of your nation ?

A lot, all I have to say right now.
"For too many years, humanity was on the backfoot. Reacting to threats, rather than preventing them. Rest of the galaxy was bigger than us. Stronger than us. We were mice, hiding in the shadows, hoping the giants would not see us. No more. Humanity is no longer on the defense. We are the giants now."

We have a Militia for defense, and the Militia includes (or more appropriately, would include) all defensive operations of the Republic.

The Novariean Military is composed of three main branches: the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

The Army is the largest of the three main branches, with approximately 4,000,000 active personnel. The army is made up various regiments and corps, including Infantry, Mechanised Infantry, Armour, Artillery, Combat Engineers, Air Cavalry etc, as well as the necessary logistics division. The army also includes a number of special forces units.

The Navy
is the second largest of the three main branches, with approximately 3,000,000 active personnel. The navy is made up of all military surface vessels (including related aircraft) and submarines, as well as the Marines and the necessary logistics division. The navy also includes a number of special forces units, though fewer than that of the army.

The Air Force
is the smallest of the three main branches (at least in terms of manpower), with approximately 2,500,000 active personnel. The air force is made up of the vast majority of the military aircraft of the Novariean military (though the army does employ helicopters, and the navy employs fighters and helicopters, and the logistics divisions of both employ transport aircraft), with numerous fighter squadrons and strategic/tactical bomber wings, as well as a large number of ground attack aircraft and other support aircraft and the necessary logistics division. The air force also includes a number of special forces units, though fewer than that of the army.

The Novariean military does have assets outside of these three main branches however.

The Novariean Legions operate primarily outside of the main military command structure, generally acting on the orders of the Chancellor himself. Though vastly inferior to the regular army in regards to numbers, with each of the ten legions numbering at only 1,000 strong, they are vastly superior in almost every other way. Given the best training and equipment available, they are the Commonwealth's most elite fighting force. The legions recruit only from the very best of the regular military and special forces, and are generally deployed when victory is imperative. Even then, Legionnaires tend to work in small numbers, with one or two 10-strong squads generally being deployed to the same battlefield at once.

The Civil Defense Corps (CDC) are Novariea's paramilitary militia, designed to serve as the last line of defence against enemy invasion. While not as well equipped or trained as the regular army, they are still an effective fighting force. They currently number at approximately 20,000,000 personnel, though most are in reserve and not on active duty.

The Most Serene Republic of Ramalet priorises its Army as its largest and most significant Military Branch as it also contains the Police force. The Army also includes divisions of mechanised walkers, tanks, mobile artillery and transport vehicles. The second largest Branch is the Air Force due to Ramalet's many mountainous regions making movement by ground difficult an a limited coastline which means the Navy is the smallest branch.

How many military divisions/branches are operational within your nation's/government's command and control?
The national armed forces are split in Army and Navy, each sporting an own Flying Corps.

The Navy splits into Strike Groups (Carrier-Fleets) and the Guard Corps (mostly composed of Corvettes and smaller destroyers). The submarine forces form an own branch of the Navy, and again split in the Strategic Corps and the Hunter Corps. In peacetime the Hunter-Corps is attached to the surface-navy's Guard Corps. The Strike-Groups carry a complement of specialized landing-infantry, and the Navy maintains a fair number of land-based aircraft and helicopters.

The Army splits foremost in Borderguard- and Strike-troops. The firsts purpose is obvious, while the activation of the latter needs the approval of the Supreme Soviet. Both have own air-superiority-forces that form separate detachments, and ground-troops, the latter being suplemented by groud-attack-aircraft and helicopter-brigades. The rest is fairly normal, Tank, Artillery and Infantry divisions.

Special forces: As the Army focuses on guerilla warfare, the fairly large Special Purpose Units have several divisions strengthwise and are colloquially known as the "bearded boys" or "barbudos".

Which division has the highest priority when it comes to preserving and protecting the properties and people of your nation ?

That would traditionally be the Navy, but in the last two decades the army got a boost in popularity. The "Barbudos" are the "heros" nowadays, being pivotal in the civil war. Traditionally there is no voronda airforce...either you join the fleet's or the army's flying corps.

The Imperial Army, Navy, Guard, Intelligence Service, Marine Corps & Border Guards - so six. If you count the two paramilitary organisations, the Stormtrooper Corps, and State Security Police as well, it's eight.
Goltzborg wrote:Which division has the highest priority when it comes to preserving and protecting the properties and people of your nation ?
Either the Stormtrooper Corps or State Security Police, as they are under the direct command of the Emperor. The Imperial Navy has a very high priority also, due to the fact has the most firepower overall.

How many military divisions / branches are operational within your nation?

The Noavak Federation consists of two active military branches (Federal Army and Federal Air Service) and a Federal Reserve of ground troops.

The Federal Army and the Federal Reserves account for 492,500 Troops out of a grand total of 560,000 soldiers. The Army and Reserves have 18 operational divisions (7 Mechanized Divisions, 4 Mountain Divisions, and 7 Infantry Divisions) and numerous support brigades that render logistical and operational support to the military.

The Federal Air Service has 67,500 troops under its command and consists of Ten Air Brigades with a total of 1,032 aircraft split into 72 operational squadrons. Four brigades are assigned to the Air-Superiority role while two are assigned to the Ground Attack role. Another three brigades are helicopter units tasked with air-assault and logistical support of the army. The tenth brigade is a support division that renders Electronic Warfare, Transport, Command and Control, and logistical support to the Air Service.

Which division has the highest priority when it comes to preserving and protecting the properties and people of your nation ?

The Federal Army and Federal Reserve are the primary defenders of Noavak with the Air Service supporting its mission through air defense and ground attack operations.

Quite. This has Ignore-Cannon-fodder written all the way through it.

Inutoland's military consists of the Naval Forces (Fleet, Naval Aviation, Naval Infantry ["Marines"] and Coastal Defence [though this last is a bit of a legacy division and is almost totally ceremonial these days]), the Allied Army and the Air Force.

Special Forces are administered as part of one of the three services, depending on role, and the Coastal Rangers ["Coast Guard"] are a civilian police agency.

The Naval Forces are the senior service and are considered the nation's primary defensive force.

Our government has no control over the armed forces. The Army and Navy are financed directly by the people and controlled by the Council of Generals and the Council of Admirals respectively.

The Air Corps is theoretically part of the Army and many transport and ground attack aircraft are under direct command of ground units. However, the air defense section is virtually autonomous.

The Tank Corps is thoroughly integrated with the other ground forces and is a separate branch in name only.

The Navy has its own Air Arm which operates fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft for transport, search-and-rescue, reconnaisance and anti-submarine warfare. With several new aircraft carriers coming online in the next few months, it is still uncertain whether their air wings will be under Navy control or Air Corps control.

The Navy also has its own infantry contingent, the Marine Corps, whose main role is to provide armed boarding parties for our surface warships and to guard our supply bases in friendly nations.

Expeditionary Forces
Imperial Army- Includes: infantry, armor, air cavalry, engineers, medical, logistics, sappers, artillery, army air force, special ops.
Imperial Navy- Includes: all surface and subsurface vessels, naval air force organized into flotillas/squadrons as needed, marines deployed on all ships as well as on all naval bases
Imperial Air Force- Includes: all planes/helicopters employed by Army/Navy as well as unique models

Homeland Guard
Border Guard- Includes: infantry, air cavalry, medical, engineers
Coast Guard- Includes: same model of ships as Imperial Navy minus carriers, and heavy battleships
Air Guard- Includes helicopters restricted to reconnaissance and in event of an invasion light hit and run on invaders

Unique
Imperial Knights- Special force handpicked by the Emperor. Patrol the halls of the Imperial Palace and the streets of the Imperial district. Serve a mostly ceremonial role these days.

As to which gets the most attention the Emperor is constantly bragging about the Imperial Knights. However, the Navy is the most well funded and publicized branch due in part to their involvement in the founding of Phalnia and continued success.
