Dixie: A history
The Interstellar Confederacy of America, more commonly known as Dixie or simply the South is a a sprawling interstellar Democratic nation that was founded in the year 1861 on the date of February 9th, after a man named Abraham Lincoln was declared winner of the Democratic election in the United States of America. In saying such the South feeling that it's had been violated, agreed to secede from the union and form the Confederate States of America, a nation that consisted of the following states. North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and finally Missouri. (Kentucky, and Missouri seceding only after the Lincoln assassination that shall be described.)
In saying such one must believe that this is a dossier of politics, but no, this document has been crafted to do one thing. Detail the history of Dixie, through 2000 years of turmoil, warfare, and more recently prosperity. Now I suppose we must start at the beginning. Tt was a bright and sunny Illinois day as the traitor known as Abraham Lincoln a vile and evil man addressed his mob of radical supporters. Unannounced to him however there was another man among the crowd that clutched the familiar handle of his pistol. Henry Jameston was and still is described as a patriot, and rightfully so for as Lincoln finished the final words of his speech the man drew his pistol and fired a single lead ball into Lincoln's throat killing him on spot.
The following was utter chaos as the mob fell upon itself in fear and Federal Militia men ran about attempting to identify the shooter, failing miserably as Jameston was carried away with the mob of men. Lincoln's death, while bittersweet as he was just a man, yet still a traitor, was the perfect opening for the south as they prepared themselves for a long drawn out war. This however they would not have, occupying Washington D.C. in the confusion the Confederacy managed to sue for peace, a peace that would however not last long.
The 2nd war of Northern Aggression started on October 3rd 1869 When the United States of America declared war on the Confederate states of America. Assaulting the state of Virginia almost immediately the North at first had a great deal of victories and nearly defeated the south. However after the valiant defense of Jimmie's pass the South managed to rally and launch a series of vicious campaigns in the north. Later nicknamed the Thousand and one year war the vicious battle finally ended on October 3rd 2870, literally a thousand and one years later.
The resulting peace was much less forgiving than the first. Having destroyed the Union's morale, and more importantly economy. The Confederacy, after democratic vote. Decided to annex the remaining state in the Union, excluding California, Oregon, and Washington. In saying such at first the Confederacy experienced much turmoil as they attempted to govern the new territories, while also expanding upon their space program that began it's first launches and extra-solar system flights. (Due to the treaty of Paris that ended the First World War, the immediate Solar System was only to be colonized by the French, British, Germans, and Russians.)
However after some one hundred years give or take a decade. The Confederacy finally managed to get back on its' feet, making mass amounts of money and after a while finally creating the extra-solar system colonies it so desired. Said colonies of course being New Kentucky, New Virginia, New Texas, New Missouri, New Oklahoma, New Arkansas, and finally New Carolina. These colonies became an internal part of the Interstellar Confederacy and at last were accepted as true "parts of Dixie." (Much like Eastern Canada would become after the first Canadian-Confederate war.)
Then of course came the Canadian-Confederate War. While no true cause as been revealed as of yet, it is clear that the Canadians began the war after advancing into New York and attacking the Confederate Fort of Harrington. Striking back with swift retaliation the Confederacy would have overrun all of Canada if the Kingdom of California hadn't intervened and in doing so annexed Western Canada. (California at this time was an ally of Russia and therefore to avoid another World War the Confederacy agreed to halt the advance near British Columbia. This would prove ironic as Russia then inherited through marriage the lands of California, creatign the Grand Duchy of Kalifornia and setting the state for much turmoil to come.)
Said turmoil came when the Northern States of the Confederacy demanded independence, quite a predicament as the Confederacy was born in secession. At first various Confederate ministers fought the secession at Congress, to no avail as the Northern States announced that the government in Birmingham would either allot their secession or face a civil war, no response could be found from the Confederate Congress however. Another war in North America seemed imminent.
On the eve of Northern secession, a grand group of men had mustered in Boston Massachusetts, preparing to lay siege to the Governor's mansion. Just before the lead rebel gave the order to fire, James Washington, the current Confederate President arrived on scene, rifle in hand and stoop before the crowd. In a display of courage and fairness, Washington proclaimed the northern states to be a free country, and promised to turn administration of said territory to whatever provisional government could be formed.
A week from that date, James Washington signed an accord of secession and peace in New York, New York. Hence was created the United Republic of America. The Confederate States was reduced to North and South Carolina, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, Mississippi, Missouri, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona (incorporating New Mexico,) Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Florida, Arkansas and Oklahoma. The remaining Confederate States joined the United Republic, with the Canadian Provinces granted back to British rule.
