It is a requirement that all citizens serve, so of course the Grand Duke did. He achieved the rank of Captain before moving on, though technically, as a Duke (before he was Grand Duke) and as Grand Duke he has been a commander of high rank.

King Egbert III is technically currently in the military, as commander of the Pink Berets, but this requires little to no actual time on the field. As Prince he served in the 12th Lighting Paratrooper Division, where he attained the rank of Major.

Queen Donna served in the 115th Air Medical Corps as a nurse, where she reached the rank of Corporal.

Prince Edward II is also technically currently in the millitary, as Lieuntant of the Pink Berets. But again, this requires little to no time in the actual field. When he was in his 20s he served in the 12th Lighting Paratrooper Division, where he attained the rank of Captain.

As the military life does provide education in the fields of leadership, administration, and more, it has always been customary for each ascending Duke to serve the people of the Dominion with at least a short period of military service.

The current Duke, Ian Friedle, served in the Army in the artillery branch for several years and achieving the rank of Marshal before his ascension to the Duchy. He gained prominence for his actions decisively ending the Siege of Umtali.

The Great and Powerful Brosef Stallin antered the service at the age of 16. he fought in the great Northern War with the Fierce Polar bear clans. He rose through the ranks and by age 45 reached the rank of General. when the last leader Victor Dragovich died he was chosen as Ruler of Eisen Reich
