Spy In The Sky

Postby GOLTZBORG » Sun Apr 17, 2011 7:02 am

( OOC: Of course, this question could appear to be asking for one to devulge state secrets; however, rest assured, what you present here will not fall upon your neighbor nations ears. )

Does your government engage in espionage against both, enemy and friendly states; and if so, do you deploy satellites ( "spies in the sky" / space ) to retrieve such information ?
( ooc: consider the question as just conversation between ordinary citizens; and not official communication )

( NOTE: It is common knowledge that real world "allies" have, and still do, spy on one another )

Yes, we spy on everybody. We've always been completely open about that. One of the reasons we can remain peaceful is because we know what you're going to do before you do.

We use every means available to collect information: satellites, submarines, embedded agents, interception of public and private communications....

The Front Range publicly admits that she gathers all the intelligence she can, keeps active plans for a war with any country (to keep the planners in practice, if nothing else), and has a very large number of intelligence and communication satellites.

No, we do as a people have a tendency to stick out in crowds so we prefer to buy classified information from shady rouges instead of obtaining it ourselves.

You hope.

In any case, yes. We spy on anybody and everybody, even if we're pretty sure you're not an immediate threat to us. Today's friends are tomorrow's enemies, and so we must be ready. Always.
Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi, also known as Colonel Gaddafi, siezed the leadership of Libya illegally through force of arms on 1 September, 1969. Those who call him the legitimate leader in Libya really need to do some more homework, and perhaps take a good look at themselves morally.

Yes, we do.
To friends, enemies or generally people who disagree with us.
Infact, im pretty sure almost everyone who knows us might have one floating above, just peeking in at their nation.

We even spy on ourselves, for humans.

We mainly use giant satellites to spy on our enemies. Never our allies.

I should probably also mention that the USA does not rely entirely on ELINT ("Electronic Intelligence") coverage, such as satellites and so on. We have spy aircraft, drones, ships, men and women nosing about on the ground if necessary. We'll do what it takes to reach you before you can reach us.

Your glibness is amusing, but doesn't somebody always?

Further, we would like to say that we find these notions of "gentlemanly" behavior, not spying on one's own allies and so on, to be both amusing and criminally foolish.

We do use agents, but we infiltrate with agents and such only those who we consider it necessary to get information on; however, taking private communications within friendly nations is simply something we do; if they were really our friends, then they wouldn't have to worry about us getting that information.

Fatatatutti wrote:Yes, we spy on everybody. We've always been completely open about that. One of the reasons we can remain peaceful is because we know what you're going to do before you do.

We use every means available to collect information: satellites, submarines, embedded agents, interception of public and private communications....

So... You have spies in every single nation? ...That is fairly amazing.

Such is Classified.
OOC Info: Yes, on both. In fact, the Early Warning System and the radar arrays of the Syreene Air Defense Grid (SADG) are a pretty good reconnoissance tool in and of themselves, even if aircraft and birds occasionally get confused by the arrays (But not by the system overall, which specifically screens for bird sized objects moving at more than 250km/h.) Add in the ELINT stuff in some aircraft, the Spy satellites (and a supplemental project currently under development similar in size and performance to the IRL Boeing X-37B,) and we've got a decent system, even if we need a couple dozen really powerful supercomputers to sort out all the data. Of course, that's what OpenCL and Stream Processing GPGPUs are for.:ugeek:
And yes, the Radar arrays in the SADG can make things explode if they get too close.

I didn't say that we have spies on the ground in every nation. I said that "we spy on everybody" by way of "satellites, submarines, embedded agents, interception of public and private communications".

Of course we have eyes in the sky. Satellites are just the start of Foreign Intelligence's capabilities. We typically infiltrate nations of interest in various capacities.

We also do things like read foreign papers and watch their TV shows, but unlike Fatatatutti we don't consider that kind of thing to be "spying!"
