Reservations & Autonomous Regions

Postby GOLTZBORG » Sat Apr 16, 2011 2:49 pm

Are there any semi-to-self-governing reservations or autonomous regions within the borders of your nation; whereby, those individuals who reside in these areas are granted some authority and degree of self-sovereignty by your nation's government ?

( OOC: Think American Indian Reserations, where the US Govt allows some degree of sovereignty )

No; the boroughs have absolutely no autonomy at all.

No. The Red Tidean government permits no such thing. There used to be some, but after the Union consolidated they were crushed.
The Red Tidean Union or The Union of Red Tide or the RTU or Red Tide. NOT Red Tide2.
Red Tide is an oligarchy, with the ruling body known as the 'Central Institution'. The Director of the Central Institute changes constantly. It follows no political ideology, so stop mistaking it for a communist state, thank you very much.

Before Whairtia took over earth-Yes, there called nations, they have it 100%
After we were given rights to have it-Yes well sorta, all named after the original country that the area was made from.

The Federation used to not have any autonomy, but now all regions of the country have semi-autonomy, similar to the freedoms that states in the United States of America have, but our regions have more freedom.

Everyone has their own self-autonomy, to a degree. All they must do is follow a short, simple list of laws, mostly about things that are just common sense to people, like being nice.

In 1817 it was decided that denying the right to self-government to the Commonwealth Dominions was a breach of the constitution. It was decided that plebiscites would be held in all Commonwealth Dominions to decide their future. All but five Commonwealth Dominions voted to remain under the control of Great Kingston. His Majesty’s Government funded these nations during their founding and close economic ties remain to this day. The remaining Commonwealth Dominions were then granted the title of Commonwealth Territories and a say in Parliament.

Each Duke, Lord, Baron, Prince, Knight, or King may run their lands as they see fit so long as they pay homage to the Emperor's laws.

Quite a few of the more remote and border provinces of the Triune Republic are designated "Autonomous Provinces". They have much more say over local affairs than other provinces, some to the point where they're practically independent in all but name. The right of a province to secede from Triune Republic is written into our Constitution, and several Autonomous Provinces have, over time, seceded and become Free States, only to accede back when the Republic's political climate is more to their liking. A few of them do this regularly, usually in response to what political party or parties are running our legislature.

We do have an area called Pigland, whose status is ambiguous.

A while ago, a busload of children on a school field trip, mostly-seven-year-olds, broke down back in the bush. It was a week before they were missed and another week before they were found. In the meantime, they had organized the Republic of Pigland and elected all of themselves to its Parliament.

When "rescued", they had all gained weight because they had killed a wild pig and were attempting to eat all of it before it spoiled. They insisted on bringing their flag back with them and it is currently flying over Sunnyside Elementary School. (It is unclear whether or not they claim the school as part of their territory.)

Parliament has debated whether or not to recognize the Republic formally.

A semi-fictionalized account of the children's adventures is available in the movie Pigland.

None, even the Districts have only a limited amount of autonomy.

Aside devolution, Mount Athos and Charlotte Island are commonwealth level autonomous counties with a governor and parliament, but still sends an MP to represent in the Common Yuan.

Crookfur has a few interesting cases

The Protectorate: a series of small islands that has a single house parliment that governs the day to day affrairs of the Protectorate and sends representitives to the Crookfur parliment.

Triballia: Whislt nominally a Dependent Nationstate Triballia is more or less run as an autonomous region and various parties both within Crookfur and Triballia are pushing for a more formalised inclusion of triballia into the Kingdom.

The Enclaves: Under Crookfur law any inidivdual or group owning a significant sized area of contiguous land can apply for said land to be made an Enclave. Within an Enclave Crookfur law does not directly apply and the inhabititants are free to live by thier own rules and laws with a few exceptions most notably that they cannot prevent anyone from leaving the Enclave should they wish to do so and that the Inquistion still retains the authority to investigate threats to national security or others outwith the Enclave. Commonly Enclaves are set up for thsoe who wish to live a lifestyle such as that which would be lived by thier ancestors or to follow a particular religous life style. Enclaves have also been set up to allow refugee and expat communities to live under conditions and laws more clsoley resembling those of thier home countries.

Under the Clan Act 1867, the Gwynnic clans of the western highlands and islands have been given a degree of autonomy unto themselves in their own clan territories. Usually Clan Chiefs hold that authority over the clan territory, but the clans are still subject to the Parliament in Roedean and the Queen.

The Harrovian overseas dominions have much autonomy. They each have their own parliaments and govern themselves while still recognising the Queen of Harrowland as their sovereign, represented in the dominions by viceregal representatives. The Harrovian Parliament still has the authority to legislate for the dominons, though.

Individually the States all have a healthy degree of autonomy from the Federal Government, which only exists at all to maintain a few basic tasks.

"Speed the mail, secure the Nation's borders and interests, and otherwise, be silent."
Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi, also known as Colonel Gaddafi, siezed the leadership of Libya illegally through force of arms on 1 September, 1969. Those who call him the legitimate leader in Libya really need to do some more homework, and perhaps take a good look at themselves morally.

Both sides have problems, and the rebels are certainly working with criminals, but the man they are fighting is not a saint. Remove them both, and let the Libyan people decide. Is it too much to request a little backbone from our leaders in this?
