Your Nation's *Great War* ( "The War To End All Wars" )

If your nation has ever experienced more than one major war in it's history, what was the name of your nation's "Greatest War"; a war which many thought at that time was surely the "war to end all wars" ? ( OOC: Each generation of each nation usually can lay claim to this dreaded title )

The Second World War is basically undeniably the Empire's version of 'The Great War', while Europe had it's War to End All Wars in the First World War, the second was undoubtedly more destructive for us than it was for them, at war's end several hundred million lay dead, much of China and Japan were destroyed, Manchuria was under Soviet Occupation, Japan was under American Occupation, China was under British Occupation, nuclear weapons had been deployed on the Japanese, disease and disorder were rampant. Yeah, it was pretty bad.

1941 - 1945 if you were wondering for the last generation.

Our current generation is thankfully lacking in world-shattering war right now and we aim to keep it that way.

The Great Rebellion (1978)-98% of all the local defense troops from every province in the Empire reject the Emperor's will and rebel against the Empire. The still-loyal local militia, the Imperial Guard, and the Imperial Marines respond to this threat with overwhelming force, but are forced into grueling attrition warfare by the rebels. Pyhrric loyalist victory (total death toll for Imperial forces is estimated at 2,300,000. Rebel death tolls are estimated at 4,000,000. Civilian casualties are estimated at 10,000,000 due to the "total war" methods of the Empire, mandating that disloyal civilians be executed as heretics)

In the midst of these advancements, a problem was brewing in the Antarctic Archipelago. Two underground organizations, The Penguin Reich and The Penguin Commune, formed and quickly gained support from untold millions of penguins. After five years of preparation, in 2661 they cooperated with each other to launch nuclear weapons at key cities in the southern hemisphere. Thankfully, all of them were intercepted, but the penguin nations would not be discouraged. They started a massive takeover of all the Antarctic colonies, quickly dominating all cities but the colonial capital. Soon the penguins attacked this city, named Isepran, and almost took it over, but a surprise naval bombardment and reinforcements drove them away. However, the penguin forces also received reinforcements, and attacked again. Our navy was decimated by penguin submarine strikes, and we were forced to retreat. That day the City of Isepran, and all of the Antarctic Archipelago, fell to the penguin nations. Realizing the magnitude of the threat, Supreme Imperial Master Tomastik Mokidi ordered an underground complex be built underneath Adiakav's Imperial District, in preparation for the possible doomsday scenario of a penguin invasion of the capital. In the same year Isepran fell and the underground complex began construction, the planet Ristafol was colonized. This planet, further from Ziarik than Oceaniya, was rich in rare minerals, but this advancement was overshadowed by the looming penguin threat. Soon after, the penguin armies launched a massive sea invasion of the islands near Xiliki, the island containing Adiakav. As they started to move toward Xiliki, the underground complex was completed. Citizens from across the city fled to this complex to escape the incoming attackers. Then, on March 14th, 2664, the penguin menace attacked Adiakav, landing with over 3 million soldiers. They met with heavy resistance, but eventually pushed through the city walls and started attacking the city itself. After 18 days of heavy urban combat, their submarine naval forces were utterly annihilated by a surprise depth charge bombardment, allowing the Imperial Vakiadi Navy to seal off the coast. With their supply line gone, the penguin forces tried with all their might to destroy the Imperial District, the residence of our leader. In a surprise move, thousands of Vakiadi soldiers and hundreds of Vakiadi tanks charged out of the entrance to the completed underground complex, including Supreme Imperial Master Tomastik Mokidi himself, on horseback. These brave soldiers under the command of Tomastik Mokidi valiantly fought the penguin scourge with every weapon available, eventually driving them out of the Imperial District with the aid of other soldiers defending the city. Their numbers greatly diminished and their supply line cut off, the penguins realized they had little to no chance of victory, and decided to cause as much damage as possible before they were killed. On the 21st day of fighting, the last penguin soldier was killed. However, this great victory came with a cost. Analysis suggested that almost 4.3 million Vakiadi soldiers died in the fighting, and 6.4 million civilians. Supreme Imperial Master Tomastik Mokidi was found dead underneath a crashed penguin helicopter, whose pilot had been shot by his weapon. His son, Tomaster Mokidi, became the Supreme Imperial Master. His first act, before legalizing the Communist Party, was ordering the eradication of all penguins on Oceaniya. 15 million soldiers landed at various sites across the Antarctic Archipelago, and began to march inland. Eventually they reached the exact South Pole, where the penguin capital city was located. A reconnaissance force of 250,000 went into the city unchallenged, and as they were examining the city for penguin soldiers, an opening opened up in the center of the city. A massive spacecraft, carrying an estimated 2.7 billion penguins, launched out of the opening. The exhaust from the ship destroyed the city, killing all 250,000 soldiers inside. The penguin spacecraft quickly rocketed out of the solar system, heading toward the Dinani Star System. This act ended The Second Great Penguin War.

The Pan-Laurasian War (1936-1940)

"Mankind has no further use for Caesars." -- President John L. Lee, 1936

Ilocana, backed by the wealth of her empire, made her play in 1936. President Lee and the Front Range intervened immediately, although they were not the initial target of the onslaught. Rather, they were the best defended of the lot, and it appears that the Emperor simply miscalculated and did not believe the traditionally isolationist Front Range would get involved, regardless of what words came out of San Angelo.

Mount Shavano, leading a coalition of herself and the other four Laurasian republics, fought Ilocana through a slow and bloody attrition campaign on two fronts, while the other two empires sat back and watched. Eventually a successful naval campaign and a breakthrough in close air support technology and tactics drove the enemy back to their original borders and left the Front Range clearly holding the upper hand. The two formerly neutral states were on the verge of casting their lots with San Angelo.

There was intense debate whether to attempt to force the complete surrender of Ilocana, by a invasion sure to surpass all fighting so far in bloodiness, or to force her now to end the war on Front Range terms with something less than an unconditional surrender. A motion to invade passed the Senate by a single vote, but to the shock of everyone President Lee vetoed the motion and made peace overtures instead. The war formally ended in 1940 with Ilocana renouncing all her colonies and accepting a disarmament treaty.

[Great Kingston]

The Imperial War of 1739-1746 was the longest and the worst war that Great Kingston has been involved in.

In 1739 the Commonwealth Empire of Great Kingston covered large areas of our continent. Some of our territories located to the west bordered another empire, that of the Alsakian Kingdom which was an autocratic and dictatorial empire. On 7th March 1739 Alsakian troops launched attacks across the borders, taking Kingstonian troops by surprise and pushing them back to pre-made defensive lines towards the coast. After Kingstonian reinforcements arrived the Alsakians were pushed back to their borders and a further amphibious landing to the south of the Alsakian Empire opened a new front. By 1741 the front lines had been established and ceased to move. Sporadic fighting continued for 4 years.
In 1745 Kingstonian troops launched two amphibious landings on Alsakia's western shores. The first failed but the second met little resistance and continued inland. After these troops seized Alsakia's third city Kingstonian troops made breakthroughs across the lines. The Alsakian Empire pleaded for surrender which was granted on January 1st 1746. At the end of the war 1,000,000 Kingstonian troops were dead, as were 1,250,000 Alsakian troops. Relatively few civilians died. Two years after the war the Alsakian Empire crumbled and formed into smaller nations. At the same time Great Kingston's foreign policy turned away from expansion and the Commonwealth Empire grew no more.

Our Civil War of 1971-1976 left a significant part of Thurask hopelessly irradiated, with millions dead, the political system destroyed and a tyrannical dictatorship in place until last year's revolution.

[The Anglo-Saxon Empire]

We have never claimed to have had a war that would end all wars, but we have had some horrific ones.

The First Conversion War- under Emperor Edward I Luthoria was united and expanded from a small tribe into an empire the size of Europe in 20 years, converting most of the conquered populations to Christianity. It is estimated that around 20% of the entire population of the region was killed off in the war.

The Hundred Years War- Lasted around 130 years between Luthoria and Scandera (SMS Imeriata), and ended with Scandera being united under one ruler and raids temporarily ending.

The First Heretic War- Between Luthoria and Leazus (SMS Nicksyllvania) over Leazus breaking away from the Luthorin Catholic Church. Both sides burned captives alive as heretics, and showed almost no mercy to soldiers or civilians.

The Luthorian Civil War- Lasted about 20 years between fascists and monarchist, cost over 12 million lives total.

There's no such thing as a "war to end all wars", but the greatest conflict in what Jankenjin consider "modern times" would be the Fall of the Jankenjin Empire and the Birth of the Triune Republic, which occurred some 300-350 years ago.

The Jankenjin Empire was founded after the Second Reunification of the Jankenjin, which managed to reunite the many different principalities of our world under a single government. The Empire wasn't democratic; it was an aristocratic oligarchy. It did, however, have many progressive elements--it legalized gender equality and outlawed religious discrimination, two scourges of our ancient culture. Unfortunately, it was also rather repressive. Religious equality was enforced by effectively outlawing religion in the public sphere and suppressing religious institutions, forcing Jankenjin to be part of a secular "New Jankenjin" culture. This, and other repressive measures, ended up being the undoing of the Empire. Within a couple generations of its founding, it broke apart in civil war, and disintegrated into dozens of smaller warring states.

It was during the middle of this chaos that the Triune Republic was founded. The Republican movement embraced the progressive measures of the Empire, but put forth liberal democracy, rather than oligarchic repression, as the means to safeguard them. It also embraced freedom of religion, but welcomed religious leaders who were chafing under Imperial dictates. The newborn Republic began a war of reconquest/liberation, bringing these new ideas of liberty to the petty warring states. Eventually, the Triune Republic reconquered some 3/4 of the world, leaving the remaining territory as Jankenjin Free States.

SInce then the Triune Republic has been the undisputed master of our world. There have been off and on skirmishes between the Republic and the Free States, but none have posed a serious challenge to Republican rule.

[Calaredum]

In CR.0 (Calaredum uses a different calendar; it would be about 1567 A.D) another nation, who are today thought to have been called either the Syvans or the Imprus, invaded Calaredum. The invasion resulted in the occupation of more than half of Calaredum by the enemy, who set about ethnically cleansing their new conquests. Their goal was to capture new land for their overflowing population to move in to, and they didn't want any pesky Calaredumans getting in the way.
Despite numbers being vastly in their enemy's favour, the remaining Calaredumans used their hostil landscape to their advantage. Calaredum's landscape is harsh and hot; the elite troops of their enemies basically cooked in the desert heat. At the same time, they released diseased horses into the enemies herds, decimating their main form of fast transport. Effectively stranded in the middle of the wasteland, the Syvans/Imprus began dying in their thousands. The Calaredumans, who were used to the desert, then performed a decisive counter-attack, routing the main invasive force.
Calaredum's fanatical army sweeping into their new territories, the remaining Syvans/Imprus put up a valiant defense; however, Calaredum partisans harrased them from the inside, poisoning their water supplies and assassinating their leaders. This resulted in the utter destruction of their army, and victory for Calaredum. In Impra/Syva, the outraged population rebelled, throwing out their incompetent leaders. The problem was that the rebellion had no figurehead, and the once great empire quickly descended into civil war and then total anarchy.
Calaredum set about kicking the refugees and immigrants out of their countries. Certain powerful segments of the populaion, however, did not like this. They believed that Calaredum should not stop to their foe's level, and warned their leaders that doing so would result in them suffering the same fate as the Imprus/Syvan leaders. The ignorant Calaredum leadership ignored them, and the already unstable faction collapsed. The populaces warning had come true. Calaredum ceased to exist for the next two hundred years, until a tolerant and wealthy tribe began empire building. These are the descendants of the modern Calaredumans.

The greatest war the nation of Varague experienced was in the 1st of January 1 A.D.
It was called "The Pure War" and the it was more like a populace extermination since the great Father decided to cleanse all Varague from foreigners, immigrants and every kind of different citizen that could harm the unity of the state since it experienced 3 civil wars at 12 B.C., 9 B.C. and 5 B.C.
With the official adoption of Christianity at the 29th of December 0 B.C. the great Father declared that the new year will be innovative and re-creative and the state will enter a new ear of union and purity.
Operation "Saint" and Operation "Innocence" were both launched at midnight of 31st of December A.D. some minutes after the new year came.
From the 45 million citizens of Varague only 1 million "Pure Varagnians" remained alive and they were characterized as "saints and guards of the purity and the state" and "The Father's beloved".
After the war that was held for 5 years the Father declared that it was a tough yet needed action to ensure the safety of his children.

For some time, the wars fought under the leadership of First Liberateur Otto Vitali, revolutionary founder of La Capitalismus, during the years 1805-1815, were considered the greatest and most violent in the history of Augarundus (at least until La Capitalismus' glorious Second Revolution of Criticalism would come... eventually...).

Yallak's war on La Capitalismus in 2014 was the largest in the history of Augarundus, costing millions of Criticalits their lives in defense of Liberte... a valiant defense, if, ultimately, not enough to defend the glorious Capitalismus.

Christian missionaries landed on both the Grand Island and Bella Island in the 1920's. They left in the 30's, but not after leaving several churches on Bella Island. Bella was more influenced by the religion. The highly religious nation of Bella and the largely atheist country of Grandoise viewed each other with suspicion, and an arms race for 25 years made it clear conflict was inevitable. 30 years of unease exploded in '54 with a civil bloodbath. The Grand Island, being numerically stronger and better trained, defeated the Bella Island in '56 and the priests were expelled from the country. Religion was outlawed and a new constitution was drawn up in '58, uniting the two nations.
