Freeways & Payways: Speed Co$t & Kills

Postby GOLTZBORG » Fri Apr 15, 2011 10:45 am

The Interstate Highway System of the Commonwealth of Goltzborg was originally designed as a means of more rapid transportation for the nation's military machine in time of national defense; however, over the years, and with the advent of high-speed railway systems ( i.e. "Bullet Trains" ), the nation's Interstate Highway System has since become an infrastructure for commercial enterprize, and is comprised of both: "Freeways", roads where one is permitted to travel on without a fee; and "Payways", roads where one is permitted to travel on once a fee is collected.

In both cases, speed limits do apply; with the max speed of 60 mph and a min speed of 40 mph on the "Freeways", and a max speed of 80 mph and a min speed of 50 mph on the "Payways".

Large penalties are levied against those who break the speed limits ( maxs and mins ); with fines and/or cancellation of one's driver's license being only two of such penalties.

Does your nation have an Interstate Highway System; and if so, please provide some information and history.

Thanks.

Tsvarchi's one and only highway is the Coastal Interborough Highway, which spans some 1440 miles and sees more than 2 million vehicles traveling on it daily. Like all roads in Tsvarchi it has no speed limit, the average being some 110 mph, which is about 6 times the national average speed.

All roads in Ko-oren are highways, there are 15 of them, as railroads are efficient and still the main way of transportation.

We too have a Coast Road. It would theoretically be more than 30,000 kilometers long but there are long stretches in sparsely populated areas that are "unfinished". There are secondary road networks near the coast but the farther you go into the interior, the less common roads are.

There are no speed limits. Near urban areas, traffic tends to be congested. (At times it can be difficult to distinguish moving vehicles from ones which are parked.) On open stretches of inter-city road, cars are still fairly slow because of their average 500cc engines. There is some danger of being mashed by long-haul road trains that often run at speeds well in excess of 100kph.

Toll roads would be highly impractical in Fatatatutti. Most financial transactions involve at least some haggling, which would further slow things down. Also, vehicles tend to contain a mixture of paying passengers, hitchhikers, etc. so it would be difficult to assess a fair share of payment for each. Finally, as the saying goes, a Fatatatutian would argue with a coconut, so disputes revolving around, "I pay my taxes!" would inevitably lead to even more delays than there already are.

Yes.

In 1940, during the Erusean Depression, the President authorized the biggest public works project in the history of the nation.
Route B7R was constructed, 7 lanes each directions and highways that would branch off of B7R would serve the many states that we have.

the Speed Limit these highways are 85MPH and drivers can only get tickets from the state they are in.
FYI: I am not trying to be the Erusea in Ace Combat 4. The Erusean Republic is a mixture of most nations in the Ace combat world. SO don't say Lrn2Acecombat.

Minoa's motorways have the highest speed limits, with an advisory limit of 75mph.

Great Kingston invests heavily in transportation infrastructure. Many motorways link up major cities, towns and counties with minimum speed limits of 70mph and no maximum on most parts of these motorways. Areas near residential areas or on dangerous routes have a maximum speed limit of 80mph.
The large railway system is a popular mode of transport with the whole system recently being upgraded to HS Rail (high speed rail).

Our National Highway Traffic System (NHTS) is the catch-all name for the web of highways between the major cities and important areas of Thurask. The speed limit on the NHTS is fixed at 120 km/h.

All highways and freeways are privately maintained by the Private Sector, and all have tolls for them. City streets remain government operated while rural and township roads belong to the communities. Speed limits on the highways generally do not exist, there are lanes for those who drive relatively slow (45-60 MPH) there are express lanes (70+ MPH) and there are moderate lanes (65-70 MPH). Drivers are expected to keep with the flow of traffic and adjust according to conditions. Inner city areas do have speed limits, 25 MPH for school zones, 40 MPH for wide multilane roads, 35 for narrow roads. Construction zones set their limits accordingly. Speeding penalties are the discretion of the patrolling traffic officer, fines are doubled for speeding in School Zones and Construction Areas.

It would be worthless to us to try to enforce speed limits on rural roads. We find that controlling the number of automobile-related accidents does not come from regulating speed.

Most of the roads that are 4 lane in Vermont are toll.

We certainly don't not have an "Interstate Highway System" - our roads are much better than that.

The speed limit on expressways is 150 km/h.

The Front Range has an excellent highway system and no toll roads.

There are no speed limits, with tickets rather being issued for "reckless or unsafe driving" and rather steeper penalties than the international norm for being at fault in an accident that causes harm.

Valcluse has an autoroute system which is both extensive and boasts a 140km/h limit. Because Valcluse is a small country, autoroutes are almost competetive with highspeed rail in terms of convenience and transport. The autoroutes are electronically tolled, with citizens able to purchase toll credit online.

Speed limit is not enforced in Expressway in Marcinesia, however it is advised that minimum speed should be 80 kilometres per hour and maximum speed should be 100 kilometres per hour. All District Expressway have four lanes connecting to all Districts.

No, we dont have any special "Interstate Highway System", mostly because over 95% of our roads are better than that. However best road in Empire is in homeland itself: running from Mechi to Mahakali. None of our roads has any sort of speed limits however we advise to drive at around 128.74 kph.

Yes, we have a National Interstate System. However, it is called the National Superhighway System in Arborlawn (Nazione Supramotorvia Sestemezza).

There is a speed limit of 145 KPH (90 MPH) in heavily urban areas where it is designated, however, it is unlimited everywhere else. It is mandatory that all commerce and industry transports and overly large vehicles remain to the left lanes.

most of gwrachbyd's surface transport system dates from before the inderpendance war. due to mountanous terrain much of the high speed roadlinks are located on the coast to the north, west and south, and along the eastern border. within the mountains much of the transport needs are replaced with high speed rail links.

underground transport systems are mostly handled by high speed rail car with a few road systems for short range travel using electric cars. in all cases travel is free and private ground transport are all fitted with inbuilt computers designed to limit the vehicles top speed based on the speed limit of the road on which they travel by using a both GPS and microwave transmitters built into traffic signs.

Here is a map of our country with the highways in green.

Image

Only the highays shown.

Image

Vehicles travelling on the highways may not exceed a speed of 100 km (62 miles) per hour according to federal law. There are no road tolls, not even for bridges. We have a very low rate of road accident deaths (under 2,000 a year) due to the high standard of driving skill required to qualify for a driving licence and because of very strict drunk driving laws. The penalty for being over the limit is the loss of your lisence that can only be reclaimed if you pay a fine of 50,000 Gella ($8,000).

Most of the highways were built during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s.

The common transport in Vorond is the airplane - speed limits are due to the fact that noone outside the government can get hands on a jetplane. As for the death toll: official stance is that one needs to know what one's doing in the air. It's not the governemnts problem if some dumbass ends up as a smoking hole in the ground. Getting an UL-plane and teaching the kids to fly is a common thing, as are sports like orientation-flight and fuel-distance-challenges. As the joke goes: The safest plane is safe enough to just barely kill you!

We have the President Homer, Airata, Souvlaki Lemonaki, Egglesica Grand Kalashi Freeway which is 45,627 km and services each province. It is completely free and has 15 Millard cars per day (the average person uses it 3-4 times a day). It was built from 1923-1932 in an attempt to standardise things. Before then, there were no car roads running between 2 provinces. Back then, there were lanes for cars and lanes for horses and carts. Now the horse lanes are you for other things such as motorbikes, rickshaws, bikes, public transportation, Emergency Service Veichals and private tram-trains

Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.

We call them motorways in ML. They started in 1950 as a way to boost trade in a country recovering from the ML-Chinese War and the Second World War. There were initially no speed limit, but one was introduced in 1952. This was 80kph, and was raised to 105kph in 1970, after cars became safer. Further increases to safety continued to be introduced and the speed limit was raised to 130kph in 1990. This is the current speed limit.
Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
Frequently used abbreviations: HoS = Head of State; HoG = Head of Government; ML = Mid Lothian; KSS - Kate Stephens-Smith.
Fancy an embassy in ML? Click me for details. (PS - I'll return the favour.)

Our nations Interstate Highway system (code name Rejaina Defense Roads when first created) were used heavily during WWII (controlled by the British at that time) and the 2001 Rejaina Revolution (against the British). We have speed limits except I-22 the longest of the freeways which has no speed limit most of the fines for speeding are average $22-500 in range. There are toll roads but very few as our govt doesn't believe in using that as revenue.

We only have one main freeway and many highways the speed limits are as follows:

Freeway 70mph
Highway 50mph
City 40mph
School area's 25mph

Ticket prices are based on how fast you were going over the posted speed limit.
