A History of Knights and your nation

Postby Purpailia Draconica » Mon Apr 11, 2011 8:16 pm

Any other nation that has a long history and respect to Knights and Knighthood? They say chivalry is dead but it is still very much alive here, Knights still hold combat roles and are Special Force units.

Knights have been in the employ of nobles even before the official founding of Phalnia.
The Church of the Divine Light also retained knights often referred to as Crusaders.

Image
Crusaders were often orphans who the Church raised from a young age. on their 10th birthday the Church decided whether they would enter the priesthood or become a crusader. A crusader initiate would then train for ten more years in the the art of combat. Once their training was complete a suit of armor was commissioned and the new crusader would select passages from the Holy Word and etch them onto their armor for blessing in battle. Once the heathens had been expelled from the land the crusaders lacked a purpose until Emperor Marturis reached an agreement with Divine Speaker Solus II bringing the Church and Empire together as one and enrolling the crusaders in the army as specialists. However in modern times the crusaders are ceremonial in purpose often remaining on church lands as guards and keepers of history.

Image
These knights descend from the first warriors who travelled to Phalnia from the Distant Lands. Being born of conquerer blood these men and women are unmatched in martial prowess. Sworn to give their lives for the Emperor the Imperial Knights are often employed as shock troopers even into modern times.

Before 1101, when a French-Gothic king and aristocracy took over our country, we did not have 'knights' per se but similar military fighters called thanes. After the Gothic aristocracy arrived, the aristocratic culture changed to reflect that of Continental aristocratic culture, with knights and barons and Lords of the Manor. The knightly virtues of chivalry and duty and honour still live on in our modern aristocracy.

People can still be knighted from the ancient Harrovian orders of chivalry, and there are some hereditary knights and baronets. Knighted people or hereditary knights may stand for election in their local shires as Knights of the Shire, who sit in the House of Commons.

There are several Reptilian Knight Orders, most of them composed solely of Dragons... kind of ironic if you think about it.

In the earlier days of Tsvarchi knighthood was only bestowed upon minotaurs; no other non-humans or humans could be knighted. Now a days we don't have any such thing.

The original knights or lardins as they were called are the first thing most Imerians think of when you say knight as they and their armours were used from when Scanderans managed to melt bronze and ride horses well into the 13th century.
Image

as advancement in melting steel was made as well as new techniques to form armour were created so did the traditional lardin armour disappeared from the nights of the federation as plate and plated leather armour got used more and more.
Image

And finally so do we have the modern cuirassiers with their heavy ceramic/kevlar full plate armour that are the idols of many young boys that wish they can grew up to be big enough to join those heavily armoured giants when they have grown up.

Knights were initially a major power in Ruthsen. By 1453, however, when the first efforts of overseas colonization were made, knights were not as powerful as before, with the rise of infantry and artillery armies. By 2000, the title of "knight" has no meaning other than to reflect the fact that someone is of noble origin in some parts of the empire.

Between 1680-1895 The Order of Kim were a group of elite sword fighters, mostly descending from royalty across Asia. Funcitoning much like a foriegn legion, the Order fought in over 20 wars, protecting the Korean land. In the 1890s, this order became defunct, with the rise of guns and other such warfare.

Until 1835 our military consisted entirely of citizens' militias. Knights and chivalry were - and still are - generally hated by our population.

Technologically, we are presently at the level of 5th or 6th century knights. The elite cavalry is still mainly staffed by nobles (a holdover from before the Weavers' Revolution and the enactment of the Constitution), but recruitment is technically open for everyone, and measures have been enacted to reduce the number of nobles serving in the cavalry legions.

Knights have a long and rich history in the Galladian Empire. Through the millenia, knights have become a staple of the Empire's security. The Royal Guard could be seen as the modern day equivalent of the knights of the past.

Bautese Nian-cho do not believe that a modern day soldier could be classed as a knight. Bautese Nian-cho was reformed in 1972 and ll history was erased. Therefor, there have been no knights in Bautese Nian-cho.

The closest to a knight would probably be a Huscarl in Gutia, a man sworn to defend his Kings honour.

Admittedly the United States of Amerika is not old enough to possess an actual order of knights [being founded in 1668 as a nation, long after the hail-days of Knights] However; there is a chapter of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta within the United States; they are of course, better known as the Knight's Hospitaller

We mostly had musketmen, seeing as how we came into existence in the late 1600s-early 1700s.

There wrre dosens of Knightly Orders throughout the pre-Revolutionary era, from orders dedicated to the protection of a great noble or King while in life and veneration while in death, to defenders of certain pagan gods, to veterans of particular battles and their heirs, to all sorts of others.

However, due to their support of the landed aristocracy and the King, as well as the rise of Christian orders, all knightly orders were disbanded by decree of the Revolutionary government.

Arguably, the pomp surrounding the ranks of ield Marshal, Grand Admiral, and Air Marshal have been likend to knightly ceremonies, and the newly-created Order of the Chevalier of the Homeland Guard has been similarly compared.

Well the closet thing we have to knights are men called Anshie Breesecha or "Men of the Covenant" They are the imperial guard and also in order to be a high ranking officer you must be one and they are lead by King Menashe II and will be lead by his son Crown prince Josiah II
