Military Marching Songs or National Anthems of your Nation?

Postby The Western Russians » Mon Apr 11, 2011 7:26 am

So, the title explains it all. I'm interested to see what songs people use as national anthems, marching songs, etc. in your nation. What kind of song do you prefer? Are you a liker of the British Grenadier type song with pipes, or more big band type affairs, such as the Koniggratzer Marsch of Prussia? I personally like the Russian style songs. Be they Red Army choir or any other composer. For the purposes of my nation, though, I use Tsarist songs of the White Army, such as:
Farewell of Slavianka (March Version)/Farewell of Slavianka (Anthem, with Lyrics) or The Tsarist Army Marches.

So, NS, what do you use for marches or anthems?

<21:02: DoctorWho> Gagarin Space Center, perhaps?
<21:03: Siberia> JACK FUCKING CHURCHILL.
<21:04: Siberia> Mad Jacks' Space Escapades!
<21:04: StGeorge> I'm St George of England and I endorse this post.
<00:21: Kyrusia> - Also, I'm thinking of creating a research foundation that directs its attention toward "fringe" or so-called "non-mainstream" science.
<00:21: Siberia> - Like how many jelly babies it takes to choke a child?
<00:26: Automagfreek> - Like how far you can ram your fist into a whore's anus?

We don't have any "national anthem". The Preobrajensky March is played on official occasions. The British Grenadier March is used as a military marching song (we play it on bagpipes).

Californiication's new national anthem is "I Am The Walrus" by the Beatles, mostly because all five junta members are Beatles fans and find it hilarious to make foreign dignitaries, tourists, and even some citizens scratch their heads as to why that song was chosen.

"I Am The Walrus" by the Beatles

I am he as you are he as you are me
and we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun
see how they fly
I'm crying
Sitting on a cornflake
Waiting for the van to come
Corporation T-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man you've been a naughty boy
you let your face grow long

I am the eggman
they are the eggmen
I am the walrus
Goo goo g' joob

Mr. city policeman sitting
pretty little policemen in a row
See how they fly like Lucy in the sky
See how they run
I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm crying
Yellow matter custard
Dripping from a dead dog's eye
Crabalocker fishwife
Pornographic priestess
Boy, you've been a naughty girl
you let your knickers down

I am the eggman
They are the eggmen
I am the walrus
Goo goo g' joob

Sitting in an English garden
waiting for the sun
If the sun don't come you get a tan
from standing in the English rain

I am the eggman
They are the eggmen
I am the walrus
Goo goo g' joob

Expert, texpert choking smokers
don't you think the joker laughs at you
See how they smile like pigs in a sty
See how they snide
I'm crying
Semolina pilchard
climbing up the Eiffel tower
Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna
Man, you should have seen them kicking
Edgar Allan Poe

I am the eggman
They are the eggmen
I am the walrus
Goo goo g' joob

Egh, National anthem is found in my factbook.
Go there on the second post if you wish to read it.

However, our military march to this song most commonly.
Yes, this song right here

Awesome song, not particularly march-like though. It's a good song, but there aren't many defined heavy beats to walk to.

You have not taken into account as to how we march.
Whenever a specific note is played, the company that is marching takes a step.

The Samozniy Army's official marching song is "Night of the Sorcerer" (marching band version currently unavailable), and is played on either Victory Parades, or the fortnightly Ascension Day Parade.
The song played at military funerals (also those of high-ranking politicians) is "Sgt MacKenzie". This is played ceremonially as originally written, bagpipes and Gaelic lyric all in. Sgt MacKenzie also concludes the Ascension Day Parade, with the ceremonial adding of a wreath to the base of the Ascension Monument.

Not fantastically relevant, but I just found this version of Sgt MacKenzie, and felt it should be shared. This is one of the largest military engagements British forces waged in Afghanistan - the close of the Siege of Sangin, in 2006.

Nice choices. Bagpipes are a good instrument for funerals. The marching song is very eerie, and I think it'd be quite hard to march to, unless you are good at keeping time or have someone signalling it. But good choices.

[OOC] There is a marching band version (I've played it IRL), but due to legal reasons, I can't post it for some time. But it has been re-written and re-arranged to fit with marching.

The Imperial March of course, here is a archived primitive video of such event, it was merely a military parade but is now a full on Anthem of the Empire, making it the oldest known song with in the nation.
Just imagine A Planet, nice parks with kids playing and birds tweeting, then a large shadow covers it up, three two one after starting and the planet goes boom, everyone is dead, now that sucks.
