Transportation of Your Nation

Postby Kalaspia-Shimarata » Fri Apr 08, 2011 3:48 am

Tell us some of the transportation, public and private, of your nation. In Kalaspia-Shimarata, average salt water mermaid house-holds have 2 private salt water submarines the average fresh water mermaid house-hold has 2 fresh water subs. For humans, since there are billiards of canals around the nation and our GDP is in the trillions (long hand scale), human house-holds have the following private transport:
-2 cars
-1 fresh water boat
-1 salt water boat
-1 personal tram-train
-1 helicopter
-1 private jet
-1 Motorbike
-1 Bike per person

Taxis
-For salt water mermaids, there is salt water submarines
-For fresh water mermaids, there is frsh water submarines
For humans there are many types:
Fresh water taxis
-Fresh water boats
Salt water taxis
-Salt water taxis
Track taxis
-Personal Tram-Train taxis
Air Taxis
-Heliplane taxis (see below)
Road
-Normal cabs
-Silver Taxis-More luxurious and comfortable than normal
-Gold Taxis-Again, more luxury and comfort than silver
-Platinum-Better than Golds
-Elite-Better than Platinum
-Diamond-The best and most expensive service. Diamond taxis even have in-built toilets. They say it costs more just to enter a diamond taxi than a 50 km taxi trip through Ipsola Central District with peak hour traffic and the price is triple that of a normal taxi after that.
-Maxi Taxis which could be any of the above listed

Public transport
Salt water mermaids, yet again have salt water submarines and fresh water mermaids fresh water submarines. The mermaids are getting sick of submarines being their only option for transport so the government is trying to think of alternatives.
Humans have many options
-Helibus-Any helicopter with wheels is called a helibus. This is because they are also designed to travel up to 50km/h on the land using wheels.
-Heliplane-Planes designed to take off and land either like a helicopter or plane. When flying short distances or in small spaces between buildings, they often use heli mode but when flying long distances, it's more benifical to use plane mode.
-Bus
-Water Bus
-Trolley Bus
-Bus Rapid Transit which ARE specially designed
-Trains
*3rd Rail Trains
*Modern Steam trains without the manual labor
*Diesel trains
*Electric trains

Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.

Most of our citizens use bikes, scooters or walk due to making money being so hard. Cars are uncommon, but not unheard of. Planes and helicopters are also used, as well as small ships.

Public transport: buses, trolleybuses, trams, marshrutkas, taxis, water taxis, ferries, airships, some smaller aeroplanes.

Private transport: cars (not as many as most places RL, as public transport is fairly cheap and can get you places. Tend to be proportionally a lot of off-road capable vehicles, especially in rural areas), motorbikes and the like (mostly urban), bicycles (ditto), boats, jetskis, hovercraft, helicopters, some aeroplanes, small personal airships.

Maglev trains are the choice of public transport for Genesis Era, although coverage is limited to the urban areas surrounding the capital and offshore cities. A comprehensive highway system is also available, as established by the prevalence of vehicular traffic on the streets.

Most people use trains - there's the metro for transport within the city, and high-speed rail lines connecting all the cities. Some (smaller) cities may not have a metro system, but will almost certainly have a bus or tram system.

Most major cities have their own airport, mostly for international travel. There are a few scheduled fights between Swilatian cities, but that's not a popular form of transport, as it's not that much faster than taking the train (especially when you consider that the airport is usually on the edge of the city, while the railway station is in the city centre), and much more expensive.

We haven't banned cars or anything, so you can probably drive to places like in other countries. Except that the roads can get a bit full, and it can be hard to find a parking space.

All of the motorized vehicles are public.

Extended Subway System: Travels between cities
Ferry Marine Transport System: Ferry ships move people between islands
Subway System: Travels between important locations inside cities
Bus system: Reaches all the areas the subway systems don't go to
Bicycle sharing system: Stations where government bicycles are parked for free use

Public transportation:

Most Iglesians use trains to travel from point A to point B and may range from suburban (commuter) trains to high-speed trains (Pendolino and Maglev).

Most Iglesian cities have a bus and/or tramway system and those with river/lake/sea have ferries. Port cities (like Porto Feliz) have several ships. The major Iglesian cities have a metro system, the most famous being Los Vientos'. Some cities also have a monorail system.

There's at least one international airport for each major IA's city.

Private transportation:

Despite being not as popular as public transportation, the use of cars for long-distance travel is rather extensive. Bicycles are more common in populated areas. Walking is also very common (obviously). Some people also own at least one aeroplane and/or boat (canoe, yacht, etc.).

Cars make up the majority of journeys. We have three layers of roads: Motorways (speed limit 80mph) that are maintained by the Federal Government, Highways (speed limit 70mph) and Trunk Roads (speed limit 50mph or 60mph) that are maintained by a state government, and local roads (speed limit 30mph, 40mph or 50mph) that are maintained by the local council. Most families have one or two cars, and most young people don't start owning cars until university due to insurance costs.

Our city centres are normally closed to traffic as they are often very historic and unsuitable for traffic. Parking is a nightmare, so many people chose to park in out-of-town "Park 'n' Ride" centres, where there's a large car park and cheap bus/tram/train service into the city.

We're like Europe when it comes to public transport. Railways are important to our transport network. They are publically owned and maintained by state governments, except for the Federal Express routes which are maintained by the Federal Governments. Federal Express provides high-speed interstate travel and travels into neighbouring country. Some of our neighbours' railway companies are allowed to provide services along federal railway lines, but they are not allowed to compete with Federal Express.

Our largest cities have metro or tram networks. These are our busiest metro systems:
  • Ankh Morpork (3.6m passengers a day)
  • Pseudopolis (800k passengers a day)
  • Stadhampton (600k passengers a day)
  • Bismouth (500k passengers a day)
  • Quirm (350k passengers a day)
(Edit: WHOOPS got "passengers a year" and "passengers a day" figures mixed up. Correct figures are now used)

Other cities and towns have good bus networks.

Bicycles are also used a lot for getting around cities.

Public Transportation is more common in cities and towns, and includes buses, trains, subways, maglevs, E-trains, taxis, and monorails. However, it's less prominent in the country and even in the cities, private transportation (i.e cars, trucks, and SUVs) are still popular.

The majority of the population uses the public transportation system. Although there is a very small population of people who will have their own cars.

Here is a list of some of the public transportation systems people use.

High Speed Train System: Used mostly by people in smaller towns or communities. People who use the train system use it to get to their nearby cities at a faster rate. The train system covers all provinces of Toonamix in all areas of each province. The trains are robotic, so there is no train conductor. The trains also travel underground.

Buses: Buses are mostly used in urban areas, but some towns and rural areas have bus systems because they needed it and asked for it. The buses are robotic, so there is no driver. Some buses will also carry vehicles to help get people to their destinations faster. These vehicle carrying buses travel on a kind of rail.

Here is an example of what a vehicle carrying bus looks like.

Taxis: These taxis are not operated by a live person. It is actually a robotic van that uses a GPS system to get people to their destinations. This taxi system covers all areas and the vehicles come in various sizes. Some taxis can hold up to 3 people while others can hold up to 10. A person has to call for a taxi in order to get service.

A six passenger taxi.

Bicycle and Scooter Borrowing: Much more common in cities, you rarely see them in small towns. The borrowing system allows for anyone to borrow a bike or scooter at any time. The longest you can use one is for 5 hours. If the bike or scooter is used for longer than that, a computer in the bike or scooter will activate making the scooter or bike automatically travel back to a borrowing station.

Water Ships: These are mostly used to travel to neighboring islands. These ships are part of a regional transportation system that the the region of Maszrah's nation established.

Here are the vehicles people use for private.

Cars: Mostly used for long distance traveling. People can either buy them or rent them.

Being in the shoes of a Dragoon takes endurance, and we stress this through Transportation by banning any sort of automobile and bike, we also give no source of public or private transportation, be it in the air or on the ground.
Thats why our Government often posts propaganda about DIY travel, and afew guidelines on how to get to places you need to do, as the example below shows.
Dragoon DIY Transport.
Need to get somewhere?
Walk.

Is it far away?
Use your wings, or sprint if you are feeling spaztic and need to release some energy.

Is it under the water?
Swim there, Submarines and Scuba gear are for sissies.

What about underground places?
You have claws for a reason, use them.

In our nation, the most common car is the Roger Donald Ria. Looks a bit like a Lada, except it has got a stronger frame, runs on electricity, and lasts a long time. Most people still have the 1968 version, due the fact that the government gave several away free when the Teddy Communist Party (governed 1960-1977) came into power.
In addition, being a nation of culture and history, we have retained some of our old modified B-type and K-type London buses on all routes that have been there since 1956. We also have the regular Leyland and Volvo Olympian 12m. In addition, we have several Dennis Tridents.

Taxis are usually Rias, and their color detonates which province they are allowed to serve in. If they need to serve more than one province, they are painted red with a white stripe.

Trains are provided by the Teddy Train Service. They either run subway trains, or the maglevs that run through the country.

Planes are provided by Air Teddy, the official carrier. Domestic airlines include Nordicair, Ladybug Airlines and Teddy Airlines.

Boats between the islands are provided by various carriers.

In addition, some places keep their traditional forms of transportation. Maycomb, for example, still has its 1906 single-decker trams running around the island.

Cars, as one would expect. Mostly battery-powered, although with the advent of the Commonwealth and the reallocation and reorganisation of some troublesome previous vendors, a switch to the universe's most common element, hydrogen, is slowly taking place.

Maglev trains are also popular, and large transport pods equipped with starship-class gravity cores and pocket reactors are sometimes seen lumbering along the equatorial highway.
