Since our founding in June of 1952, The Daily Post has served Nieuw Amsterdam’s English-speaking community by bringing a fresh wind of fiery, passionate avant-garde journalism into the public discourse. As not only the city’s most widely circulated English-language newspaper but the largest free alternative paper of any language as well, The Daily Post has maintained the same tradition of objective, no-holds-barred reporting since our founding in the loft of an abandoned warehouse in Nieuw Utrecht almost sixty years ago.

The Daily Post is available - as always, for free - in print, online, mobile web, e-book, and tablet app editions.

Van Rosevelt calls for a ‘new beginning’ in politics as MP’s return

Peter Van Rosevelt welcomes new MP’s to Staten, calling for a “new beginning” in politics - taking his seat next to deputy PM Jan Bos

for the first time as Prime Minister.

The two party leaders sat together on the government benches following the approval and finalization of the Christian Democrat-Free Liberal coalition agreement. Labour leader Arti Onbekend congratulated the new government but, as the largest non-coalition party in Staten, said that her party will be “a vigilant opposition” which will “consistently hold [Van Rosevelt] accountable”. This is the first time that Labour has not been a coalition partner in government since 1995.

The official swearing-in of new members is expected to last for the rest of the week. All swearing-ins must be done on an individual basis and can only be performed by a registered judge. MP’s may take a religious oath of office or perform a secular affirmation of allegiance to Crown and Constitution.

Some "new faces" and some disgust
The new PM began his speech for the new Staten by not only saying that there were many new MP’s but congratulating the fact that there are also more elected female MP’s and more who are under-40, Black, Indo, and openly GLBT identified members as well.

“I’m glad to see so many new faces today.”, Van Rosevelt said, “Not so long ago, I was where you are today.… It is amazing to see, and be a part of, a Staten that looks more and more like New Amsterdam.”

There were scowls on some of Mr. Van Rosevelt's "new faces" sitting in the opposition benches after that line. Several members of the far-right National Front, most of them newly elected, looked visibly displeased when Mr. Van Rosevelt celebrated the growing diversity of the Staten floor.

Mr. Van Rosevelt expressed joy, optimism, and unity for the new government, calling this “a time for … a new beginning” in politics and international affairs. Policy aspects touched upon in his speech included beginning investigations on tax code reform and opening up diplomatic relations with the government of Greater Tezdrian.

GOSSIP: Charlie spotted with "mystery girlfriend"

Image
Prince Charles VII with his possible new girlfriend

So it seems our Crown Prince-in-waiting has been seeing a girl. Pictures taken at an apartment party in Nieuw Utrecht. Despite the typical security around Prince Charlie's social life, an intrepid reporter managed to snag a photo of him chatting it up with a girl. Whether or not they are serious, this girl's school and occulation or even her name are unknown to us given the Royal Family's tight control over these matters.

A spokesperson from the Royal Family declined to comment on the matter, saying that Charles VII's dating life was "[a] private matter."
