We do, for unrepented sins that don't require the death penalty.

We only send Criminals to labor camps if there sentences are over 20 years and if they have more then 1 federal offense

Yes, we use them as cheap labor for our infrastructure.

Labor camps in your nation

Postby Parhe » Tue Jun 07, 2011 11:16 am

No such thing, but there are reeducation camps, with the only labor being to some craft, but for their own purposes so that they don't go crazy.

Does your nation send criminals to labor camps?

Federal Penitentiaries often have work details, as well as programs in which inmates are permitted to work jobs while serving out their sentences. State facilities often do likewise.
Players who complain about the inexperience of newcomers, but will only take part in an RP if it is closed, are a HUGE part of the problem they are complaining about.

Only a couple state ran re-education facilities for the Dragonkin that are not up to national expectation.
But seeing as we are an extremely nice government to our Non-Human populace, the Re-Education camps are more like summer camps.

But, we have no Labor Camps.
We have a few decommissioned labor camps, still with the rotting remains of Humans in them, but that's just about it.

All prisons in Geckocidron could be considered Labor Camps, in that we have the prisoners do something constructive for the state, rather than languish in their Easy-GassedTM Prison Cells.

Community service is part of reparations, and you can work if you choose in a rehabilitation center (not as Orwellian as it sounds)- see our factbook for more information on our justice system.

Any crime committed by a human is punished by a government-paid vacation to a labour camp.

Terra Mariana does not support the classical prison system as ineffective and wasteful, so Marian correctional facilities are basically labour camps. Conditions depend on security level - at lower levels, where convicts are sent for lesser offenses, they are treated strictly but fairly, and work to pay for the expenses of their imprisonment. More serious offenders and those that misbehave in lower security facilities are sent to high-security labour camps, where they must perform long hours of hard labour with little food and under constant threat of abuse and torture by the guards.

Supermax labour camps are pretty much the worst place in Terra Mariana that an offender can end up in, and many consider supermax to be worse than death sentence, considering that being imprisoned in a supermax essentially is a death sentence, only much, much slower. Especially infamous is the Solovskaya Maximum Security Facility, a prison facility located on an island in the far North, where conditions are said to make Auschwitz and the GULAG look like holiday resorts. Various experiments and tests are conducted on inmates of this facility, most of which eventually result in gruesome and painful death or severe injury and permanent disfigurement, from various medical experiments to testing of new weapons and interrogation techniques.

Very few survive their full term in supermax, and those that do are usually left permanently disfigured and mentally scarred. However, if a man has been sentenced to imprisonment in such facility, it is customary for his wardens to provide him with 24 hours and means to commit suicide, unless his crimes are heinous enough to withdraw such courtesy.

Those imprisoned in lower security facilities are usually granted early release after they have repaid the expenses of their trial and imprisonment, as well as the damages of their actions, with their work. Due to social stigma attached to ex-convicts, many choose to remain in the labour camp after release as contract workers, helping new inmates to adapt.

we do have labor camps, but the things the criminals do are useful, such as building machinery parts or constructing etc. we never let our criminals out of prison ( like parole, etc ) but as they work to build more better things, we reward them by upgrading the camp by building a larger and more comfortable cell block building, increasing prison size, etc.

Sort of. Prisoners often be forced to do menial but handy jobs while in the can. The work is optional but comes with benefits, such as TV, food and increased chances of parole. Dr. Peter McKellan spent five years in prison for money-related matters, but continued to paid work by contributing to a medical magazine.

There are certainly prisons where the inmates have the option to partake in difficult manual labor, for which they are minimally compensated, of which North Pelican Bay is the most famous.

Yeah, we do that too sometimes, but only with people who aren't high-security or considered serious flight risks. Those people get to serve on work details.

Some prisoners are sent to labor camps where they are beat, spat upon and whipped if they make as little as one mistake
Kalaspia-Shimarata's flag represents the Union between K&S. The dark blue represents the sea and the light blue represents the sky. In Kalashi language considers light blue and dark blue to be different colours. England colonised, and unified K&S, between 1774 and 1953, and English, light blue and dark blue are considered to be the same colour. Therefore, the contrast between dark blue and light blue represents the union, but the differences between K&S where as blue being two but simultaneously one colour represents K&S being two, but simultaniously one entity. The opposite to the symmetry represents the unity and indipendance of K&S, whilst also representing the Kalashi culture of opposite symmetry.KS is 75% Christian, hence the cross.

We don't have enough crime in our country to really make use of labor camps on a large scale. We have a few small ones which are combined with re-education facilities. Inmates are treated humanely and are allowed democratic rights. We do not punish, we rehabilitate.

Kernen's mines, especially, are full of slaves. These slaves are often either POWs, or criminals who's crimes do not warrant death. Such is often the case for the extended families and servants of clans that plot against the Khan. However, foreigners captured during battle or raids are by far the most plentiful laborers.

While not 'labor camps' in the historical sense, it has been found that slaves in industrial factories or agricultural venues have been known to sabotage the tools or machinery. Kernen has discovered, however, that in mining, any sabotage will likely cause the death of the slaves. This has proved extremely useful in managing slave populations. And the laborers are completely expendable. This helps us massively when it comes to public...discipline...
