And yes, Goltzborg, you have earned such a title. Don't stop asking interesting things!

Now, on to the topic at hand...

Provided there are multiple sapient species within your nation's boundaries, are there laws within the government, or laws held by any of the nation's religious groups, which regulate, in some way, inter-species marriage?

Yes, Inter-Species Marriage is legal, but only if the participants are all of species that are of the same Class (Reptilia or Mammalia).

The latter isn't the case in our nation, so we have only inter-human marriages.

As for Goltzborg, I appreciate the threads. They give us a chance to flesh out some more details about our nations that may not have come up.

While it is illegal for humans to marry other creatures so are the inferior species free to do so even if it is generally looked down upon by most of the non-humans and even humans do tend to view the unions as dirty.

I would also be interested to know the specifics of any civil or religious laws concerning inter-species unions, and the history behind them.

Well, for 400 years, inter-species marriage and relationships were illegal, punished by torture and reconditioning. Thus, any such relationship was conducted in secret. All that changed when President Sampson overturned the ban all of a sudden and signed in a law that made the Ban unconstitutional.

Legally, you have always been allowed to marry any one conentual adult of your choice, unless you where the Prince-Blooded or Grand Blooded Duke, in which case you had ot marry human. However, our current Prince-Blooded has somewhat, unique tastes, and we'll be seeing how that turns out.

Today there are no such laws on the books........tomorrow never knows;

It's legal, but there are no such unions known.

The fact that the predominant sapient species in the Empire are Decepticons and humans probably has a lot to do with it. While some humans surely want to marry their masters (power is a very strong aphrodisiac), we Decepticons not only don't marry in general, we would find it even more pointless to wed something so small that we can hold the entire creature in our hand.

The tiny groups of other sapient species that exist here have been given lands so far away from each other that we doubt they even know of each others' existence.

The marriage systems and the gender differences between syth and human render this question largely moot on Nohn, but regardless, no, neither the government nor the sythen clans would ever acknowledge a cross-species relationship. Just wouldn't work out for a multitude of reasons.

In Pottslande, marriage to any and all forms of life is perfectly legal. Marriage is considered a social bond and expression of lifelong love, and it is believed that love of all things should be permitted. As a result, we have had marriages between everything from man and woman, to man and man, to woman and sponge, to man and bacterium (which eventually became a wonderful case of post marriage polygamy).

Given that the population of the Kangaroo Republic is mostly made up of 4 species of sapient kangaroos, each representing about a quarter of the population, inter-species marriages are not uncommon. Less than 2% of the population are non-kangaroos and as such, marriages between non-kangaroos and kangaroos are far less common but they are still allowed.

It was, until about 40 years ago, flagrantly illegal for elves and humans to intermarry. The penalty was officially five years imprisonment, but the human involved generally got off with a much lighter sentence, while the elf would probably never be heard from again. Breaking that law into tiny little pieces was one of the better things to come out of the Violet Revolution. Its not what you would call common, certainly (less than 0.5% of the marriages officially registered last year were interspecies), but it is working its way into cultural acceptance. Heck, our WA senior delegate is married to an elf, though that's part of why she's in the political doghouse out here.

In Fatatatutti, a marriage is like any other contract. All parties must consent.

There are no species in Fatatatutti besides humans which are capable of giving consent. Even if there were any such species and even if the courts recognized their ability to give consent, it's difficult to see what the point of such a marriage would be.
