Ranks of the Megalo Stratio̱tikon, or Grand Military are based upon the ranks held by the former Ostronopolian independent city states during ancient times. Ranks in the Republic are generally earned through ordered progression, except in the case of specialized officers which may receive a Entalma dae Klitef̱si̱ or Warrant of Summons during times of warfare in which their technical abilities are required for the success of Ostronopolian military operations.

Jarls: The head of my society, these are noblemen armed with exceptionally long swords (Think proto-Zweihander. They are equipped with a mail hauberk and a highly decorated great helm.

Stallari: Field marshals. These men are the Jarl’s right hand men. They are equipped with a sword in the modified spatha type and wear mail hauberks with Spangenhelm type helmets. They often wear surcoats emblazoned with the Jarl’s crest. They carry a shield that is in the kite variant.

Huscarl: The house warriors of the Jarl. These men through feat of arms have raised to the notice of the Jarl and are equipped and accommodated accordingly. They carry axes that, depending on need, may either be one or two handed. When wielding a one handed axe, they carry shields similar to the fyrdmen but are of course are finer and decorated. They wear mail Hauberks with Spangenhelm helmets.

Hersir: Equivalent to a sergeant in other armies, Hersirs are armed with long thrusting spears. They are equipped with shields like Fyrdmen but also carry wooden staves to mark positions and test the ground and/or water level. They are chosen for experience in combat.

Fyrdmen: The rank and file. Armed with a either a long thrusting spear or a bow made of ash or yew. Both are equipped with oak shields circular faced with leather and about 32 to 36 in in diameter. The sole armor is a helm of the Spangenhelm type.

The Triumvirate is the executive political leadership of Xanthal, and the highest military authority, to which all military ranks are subordinate.

Xanthal's military rank structure is fairly simplistic; there are no non-commissioned ranks, and a number of the international standard commissioned ranks have been dropped. Some of the lower positions that might otherwise be filled by enlisted personnel are filled by rankless, nominally civilian contractors. Seniority and posting are used to determine hierarchy where the rank structure does not provide enough tiers. Admiral and General are temporary ranks to which a Commodore or Colonel may be elevated in instances where multiple fleets or regiments must work together in a situation that requires them to be placed under the direction of a single commanding officer. It is typically held only for the duration of a given assignment, mission, or campaign.

guardsman: a standard foot solider, nine in each squad,
lance corporal: no man under his command but work as a replacement if the corporal is killed and serves as the corporals right hand, two in each squad.
corporal: leads a minor squad of ten men.
squire: leads a superior squad into battle.
Knight: leads a superior squad into battle and is the replacement for the squire lieutenant if he falls in battle, and serves as his right hand brings the commands of him to the squires.

squire lieutenant: leads a platoon of 100 men into battle.
lieutenant: leads a platoon of 100 men into battle and is the right hand of the knight lieutenant whom is in charge of the regiment and is to replace him if he dies in battle until high command can find a replacement
Knight lieutenant: is the commander of a regiment of 1000 men
squire commander: command 10 regiments, one squire commander is chosen by the commander to serve as his replacement if he is killed in action and to serve as his right hand.
commander: a commander is the commander of an entire army
marshal: a marshal have the command of 10 armies and is chosen as the overall commander of an army in a theatre of operation if more than one army is present during the campaign
High marshal: the King himself under whom the entire royal guard serve

The Naval equivalent to Marshal is Admiral of the Navy. The GWO's current Marshal is Tyrone "Tootall" Briggs, and the current Admiral of the Navy is Erane Jenvus Buwan.

The Most Honorable Chancellor leads the civilian government of the GWO. Some speculate that the creation of this office was merely an excuse to place Heinrich Slaag (who is still the current Chancellor) into a position of much power.
