The Confederation of Vecherd is confederation of various cantons laying in the Northwestern Vecherdian sea, The voting system for the election of the president is the first-past-the-post voting system. For electing parliamentarians is the Saint-Laguë Method and Mixed member proportional representation. Vecherd is a parliamentary republic with limited direct democracy.
History
Many historians and researchers have found evidence that there might have been human settlements in Vecherd as early as 14 000 BC.
However the first evidence of permanent residence is from 5 500 BC. The first humans to reach Vecherd were groups of Germanic tribes that travelled to the islands by boats, no researchers have found out precisely what continent or what nation. However research suggest it was from the Southeast.
Until 1032 the Vecherdian islands were clusters of tribal kingdoms with a decentralized rule, however in 1032 Vecherd was untied under king Alfred An Deghaun(998-1061) whom highly centralized the Vecherdian realm and instituted Christianity as the new state religion.

In 1723 an estimated 500 000 peasants attack Cairlinn and the Vecherdian Royal Castle, killing the king and his family, as well as a vast majority of the Vecherdian aristocracy. The army was able to stamp out the revolters, however the entire monarchy was obliterated. General Martin Van Rijn(1686-1754) leader of the Vecherdian army decided to start a reform of the Vecherdian government. He declared himself Lord Protector of Vecherd and abolished the aristocracy. In 1730 Van Rijn instituted the Vecherdian Confederacy, giving the newly created Cantons the power to basically control their land without much interference, except the requirment of recruiting soldiers to national army and collecting certain taxes. The Cantonal system ended the centuries long ethnic strives within Vecherd.
The revolution of 1793 which was led by the famous classical liberal Geert Goldstein(1770-1844) was opposition to what he and his estimated 800 000 followers meant was an authoritarian regime, and while some cantons had enacted local democracy, the country was still largely dictatorial. In the Northern parts of the country in and around Cairlinn they attacked governmental buildings and army barracks. The two months long riot led to the fall of the current Lord Protector Jean Van Water(1750-1799), and the introduction of federal and local democracy,(excluding Standúhöfn, which was ruled by the aristocratic families of Frælivik until 1889) and the Vecherdian constitution of 1795, which secured the rights of the Vecherdian people.
Throughout the 18th century most of the 19th century, the government was run by classical liberals and confederates. The country experienced an industrial boom in the 1820's which led to an enormous increase in wealth and population growth. As the labor movement grew in response to the economic and social liberalism of 19th century grew, the politics of Vecherd polarized and the parliament was divided into three groups, the Classical liberals, the Socialists and the Confederate liberals. The labour movement peaked in 1909 when they received 49.3% of the votes and were able to control the parliament. The Labour Party the leader of the left-wing government later collapsed in the 1920's after severely crashing the Vecherdian economy, with unemployment reaching 18%. The 1940's to 60's led to the libertarian bohemianism become a major Vecherdian counter-culture, drug use and free sex become symbols of freedom and prosperity and the Vecherdian Conservative Party and religious parties faded into insignificance as more liberal and libertarian parties became the main parties of Vecherd. In the 1970's the Vecherdian government began a process of anti-corporatism and anti-statism, which almost led to the abolition of the federal government, since the 1980's however, the state has taken up some tasks again, like the military and criminal courts. In several cantons New Religiosity sprung up in the early 2000's as a counter-ideal to the Vecherdian ideas of liberty and anti-statism.
The Vecherdian - West Reichian war, May-July 2011
The Vecherdian - West Reichian war was a war between Vecherd and the West Reich, the war started by the West Reich as they wanted to take down the Vecherdian Zionist government. West Reichian soldiers attacked and occupied the island of An Freale. The war lasted to months and ended with Vecherdian soldiers storming the beaches of An Freale.

Demographics
Vecherd is a relatively homogeneous nation with some immigration from other nations, the last decade almost 8.3 million people have settled in Vecherd, the recent immigration has been prompted by the recent economical boost in Vecherd, which started in the early 21st century and which as continued through 2012. The main group of immigrants are from Sibirsky and there are more than 3.5 Million Sibirskyians living in Vecherd as of 2012 or about 0.88% of the entire population, 6 of the 1 000 politicians in the Parliament is Sibirskiyans all of them for the Libertarian People's Party.

The ethnic composition of Vecherd is fairly homogeneous, and around 95% of the population is of fully Vecherdian ancestry. However, within the Vecherdian ethnicity people belong to several different cultures. The majority of the population are describing to the general Vecherdian culture, which is a fusion of various northern cultures during the 8th century.
