Here's a thought. Officers get a bit more stylized armor such as shoulder plates that stick out a bit more. Other ranks can recognize their platoon leader directly but an enemy may not, so hard for a sniper to take out the OIC. Plus, tell your troops not to salute their officers in the field.
If you're familiar, check out Robotech, Armies of the Southern Cross to see examples of diff. ranks using diff. armor styles. I think in countries other than the US, the Japanese cartoon was called Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross. I may be able to find something on the web, but I only have this stuff in print from my Palladium Books Robotech RPG.

Note to self: Ice the Lord-Generals first.
And to be on topic, the drawings are very good. Not unlike Stormtroopers of a different flavor and using distinguishing marks and colors makes sense.
Now, dress all your political prisoners up as Lord-Generals and get the enemy to kill them for you!

To paraphrase a now 40+ year old movie: "You blew it up! You damn dirty apes! Damn you all to hell!"

No their all rifled 120mm RT-88s, which are semi-automatic, breech loaded mortars based off the RT-61.
They get like, 12 rounds a minute safely, however crews will be able to push it to like 18-20 rounds if need be. It carries a bunch of ammo in the vehicle itself, plus they tow-behind trailers of supplies and ammunition. Gets range on par with the RT-61 as well.
Sounds similar to the Dragon Fire II EFSS (see here: http://defense-update.com/products/d/dragon-fire.htm)
Rifled mortars are okay, putting spin on the mortar round increases effective range. Dragon Fire II has a mechanism that hoists the round and loads it into the barrel, as opposed to in the breech, but as a digitized system, it can almost position and fire itself without crew around it. The crew just keeps the reload tray fed and operates the firing controls.
