New Jeromia is a large nation which takes up most of the Jeromian Peninsula. This nation follows my IRL views mostly, and is modeled after the real life countries of the US, Japan, South Korea, and probably France too.

This is a micro nation I made: Komejo Zikorzo
My other nation (made to oppress people): Nickodia

Does YN have a state religion? Lightford never espoused a state religion.
What is the biggest religion in YN (not including atheism)? Christianity. Protestantism is the largest denomination.
Is your populace religious? Even when Lightford was at its most religious point, it's religiousity was underwhelming compared to other countries due to having a headstart at development. A myriad of factors have eroded Lightfordians trust in religion as well as immigrantion of irreligious people in the 20th century particularly after World War II. In 1950, 53% of Lightfordians were highly religious. Religious demography has evolved dynamically. These days yhe vast majority isn't religious. Even those following a religion. These days only 10% of people are at least moderately religious and 83.33% (5/6) are unaffiliated.
What is the state of religious freedom in YN? Under the first amendment of the Constitution, all religions have equal protection and citizens are free to hold any belief. Religious activities and practices such as human sacrifice and using it to discriminate can be restricted if they violate secular norms.
If your majqority religion tolerates the concept or idea, answer with O. If not, answer with X. Note that this doesn't apply to the populace as a whole; this only refers to the followers of the biggest religion in YN. Comments welcome.
Atheism: [O] Affiliated and unaffiliated people have always been able to coexist. In fact irreligious people faced minimal and the least discrimination compared to other religious minorities when Protestantism used to be dominant.
People not in your religion: [O] While Protestants viewed other religions as logistically wrong, they were nonetheless able to coexist.
Polygamy: [X] Laws restricting polygamy have been inherited from British role and the act conflicts with Christianity. It wasn't until 1850 that multiple relations of any kind were expressively criminalized by the 12th amendment including polyamory before marriage.
Pornography: [O] Despite theoretically conservative texts regarding sexuality, heterosexual porn was always thought of as normal. Adult porn wasn't fully legalized until 20 Apri,l 1993, under the Supreme Court case Millard v. Federal Committee of Communications as pornography is protected by freedom of speech and the right to privacy. Any child and animal porn was always illegal with the maximum of the death penalty.
Homosexuality: [X (Official). O(In fact)] Protestantism officially opposed homosexuality and it still does. It was the backbone of homophobia. But the majority of adherents have eventually evolved to accept it.
The rest of the LGBT community: [? (Official). O(In fact)] Protestantism clearly condemns homosexuality but its stance on transgenderism is uncertain due to not having any specific references. It was interpreted as immoral due to it being perceived. Protestantism is anti-LGBT in nature but again the majority of adherents eventually evolved to accept it.
Sodomy: [X (Official). O(In fact)] Sodomy was a sin and used to be illegal. Even straight sodomy. The Supreme Court decision, Palmer v. Shallfrisle, has decriminalized homosexuality and sodomy nationwide on 19 June, 1977 as there's a fundamental right of privacy. As with homosexuality, Protestant texts still denounce sodomy but the majority of adherents eventually evolved to accept it.
Insobriety: [O] Alcohol is interpreted as the blood of Jesus and there's nothing negative said about it. It was drank mostly exclusively on special occasions. Alcohol was briefly prohibited in 1915 under the 18th amendment. This has lead to immense backlash due to conflicting with Lightfordian tradition. Prohibition was repealed by the 21st amendment in 1920. With the collapse of religion, that tradition has reversed. Alcohol is treated like a casual drink like soda and is frequently drank. Lightford is now irreligious but alcohol is considered a legacy of Christianity
Fornication: [X (Official). O(In fact)] Fornication is a sin. But heterosexual premarital sex wasn't given much attention. Couples having fewer children and becoming parents later in life have helped to prove that belief to be obsolete. Fornication was decriminalized in 1903 after being rarely enforced. The vast majority of people including Protestants condone homosexuality as it's thought to be difficult to postpone sex after 18.
Stem cell research: [O] Protestantism doesn't specifically denounce Stem Cell research and most adherents accept it.
Science in general: [O] Science isn't perceived to be contrary to Protestantism.
Abortion: [O] Protestantism (particularly mainline) is remarkably tolerant and progressive towards abortion compared to other religions. Abortion was legalized on 19 July, 1968 under the Supreme Court case of Emerson v. Lamer
Contraception: [O] Contraception wasn't stigmatized much due to a educated populace and lack of religious condemnation. Contraception was fully legalized on 22 March, 1972 under the Supreme Court case Byrd v. Nebreisau.
Women leading in your religion: [O]
Men leading in your religion: [O]
Is there any other information needed to be aware?
For most of history, Lightford was a Christian society and the largest sect was Protestantism. Even so irreligion has always existed from the country's independence, mass attendance was typically sporadic as private prayers were preferable to public ones, and its overall religiousity was unimpressive compared to other countries due to being more developed. Traditional music sometime had references to religion. Crosses used to be popular in Lightfordian fashion. Protestantism encouraged work ethic this helping Lightford to become a developed country and equal gender roles. Until recently, religion remained a vital part of life. Immigration has contributed to the country's former religious diversity and pluralism. Judaism is the largest non-Christian faith as a result of mass immigration of Jews in the 1930's and 1940's to seek asylum. 53% of Lightfordians were highly religious in 1950. Protestantism was the majority religion in Lightford until 1951. It was because immigration of people from other religions as well as irreligion, faster growth rate of other groups, and a wave of secularization have eroded that norm. Majority of Lightfordian were Christian until the figure has fell below 50% in 1981. For about a decade, Lightford was a religious minority-majority country. The unaffiliated people has exceeded those affiliated in 1991 and remained the majority ever since. Today more than 83.33 (5/6)% of Lightfordian aren't affiliated with any religion and only 10% of people are at least moderately religious.Religion which was once openly discussed in public is now a private matter these days. The Silent Generation and those before it is the only age group where the majority still adhere to a religion (62%). Even today, people of all religions still enjoy freedom and tolerance.

Experts hotly debate when did on the secularization of Lightford began. The theories are when Lightford entered its isolation period, the Great Depression, and after World War II. It's generally agreed upon that in the years following World War II, a gradual wave of secularization has swept the country. After significant slowdown, a second wave of irreligion has hit the Lightford in the 21st century this time much more rapid than the first one. The causes of the fall of religion in Lightford can be traced to a myriad of factors ranging from advancement, reduced adherence to conformity, emphasis on individuality, liberalized sexuality, loss of relevance and applicability of religion in modern society, dependence on science and rational basis, porn, the internet/social media, the War on Terror, religious conservatism towards issues in modern politics (such as LGBT rights and abortion) alienating young Lightfordians, etc.

During the Red Scare people (particularly religious fundamentalists) have used the connection between communism and irreligion to justify stigma towards irreligious people as a means of preserving Lightfordian customs, hoping to buck the trend of secularization. Despite this, it did little to convince people and as a result the trend has followed uninterrupted. In the wake of the 21st century, fundamentalists have once again tried to fight against irreligion. Protests and attacks have been carried against dissidents (like the LGBT community). At one point they proposed a so-called confederation of faiths was created to revolt against the Lightfordian government. The lack of legal civilian weapons, damage done to the influence of their religions alienating people from them, and absence of unity among the sects and religions have all lead to the group's demise thus they were never able to carry an uprising. Fundamentalism has dissipated by 2011.

The fall of religion has impacted Lightford in various ways. Commitment towards human rights, welfare, equality, compassion, modernity, etc has increased. Living standards have risen. The trend has directly led to the now universal acceptance of LGBT and redefinition of sexual norms. Though it also had its fair share of negative impacts. The rise of irreligion has led to a surge in drug use, alcoholism, depression, and suicide. Those said problem have abated by the 2010's.

Here's data of religious demographics taken in every decennial census since 1950.

First of all, not only do we not have separation of church and state, the church is the state. Our leader is the head of our state religion as well as head of state, and these two positions are so intertwined in our state that it would be impossible to untangle the two without extreme reformation or revolution on an unthinkable scale.

We have religious police who have full rights enforce our religious doctrine, including but not limited to forcing entry, shooting a person in their own home, or kidnapping them from their home to take to a black site, all without warrant, if they so much as think a person is not following the official tenants and interpretations of our particular denomination of Mytharicaun exactly to the letter. If they so much as think you aren't praying enough, they can and will arrest you and hold you as long as they want, without trial. And they are allowed to torture you. And if you die in their custody, nobody will even hear about it.

We also have a strong military, and have a foreign policy that can best be summed up as invading countries that don't share our religion, under the casus belli of "converting non-believers", and using the military conquest to convert people at gunpoint. Those who refuse to convert are either enslaved or subject to outright genocide. We have exterminated entire sapient species in this holy war because they refused to convert to our religion.

No matter the religion: all marriage is illegal, slavery is illegal, and all vertebrate products (such as meat and milk) are forbidden from consumption or usage. Animals shall not be harmed and citizens must pass a test in order to receive a sex license - if a citizen has sex and is impregnated without a license then both parties run the risk of being thrown into the semi-submerged Abyssal Grotto on the coast. There is a 40% death rate, so it isn't straight up a death sentence but it forces citizens to seriously consider the license. Incest - even among close relatives is also legal - as long as - all participants are consenting adults.

in case we haven't already, which we probably have:

Does YN have a state religion?we recognize all beliefs that brind comfort and self restraint to their followers
If so, does your government's laws and legislature rely mostly or entirely on that religion's ideas?our legislative process is blissfully free of religious bias
What is the biggest religion in YN (not including atheism)?it is called the nalanuthu, which means literally way or path in the mountains
Is your populace religious? not particularly
What is the state of religious freedom in YN?exploring and imagining infinite possibilities is highly encouraged. Close to 1/3 declair no no religious leanings, another third aproximately call themselves nalanuthu, and the remaing third encompasses all other beliefs combined.

If your majority religion tolerates the concept or idea.

Atheism: []few cameroi regard physical life as all you see is all you get, but a substantial majority don't give a lot of time or thought to matters specifically of the spirit.
People not in your religion: []are just people, like anyone else.
Polygamy: []the most common forms of marriage includes multiple adults of multiple genders. However, there are just as many cameroi who remain single all their lives as well.
Pornography: []accepted, as long as it isn't in trade for other considartion
Homosexuality: []a large part of the population, though not a majority
The rest of the LGBT community: []much the same
Sodomy: []uncommon, tolerated among consenting adults but not encouraged
Insobriety: []not encouraged
Fornication: []a mostly harmless part of life
Stem cell research: []fine with
Science in general: []favored
Abortion: [] anything that keeps the birth rate low is ok, though other means of doing so, including lgbtq et all, much prefered.
Contraception: [] dispensed through school helth programs.
Women leading in your religion: []majority of nalanuthu priestesses are women
Men leading in your religion: []uncommon but not forbidden
Is there any other information needed to be aware? many cameroi follow the four fold path of logic, consideration, honesty and imagination, without affiliating themsleves specifically with the nalanuthu, as being the kind of the default norm of cameroi culture.
truth isn't what i say. isn't what you say. isn't what anybody says. truth is what is there, when no one is saying anything.
