Prisons in Ainin resemble apartment buildings. Each prisoner has his or her own room, equipped with a computer, a television, a bed and proper sanitation, along with large amounts of books, DVDs and casettes that may be borrowed from the prison library. The computers are equipped with many popular video games and somewhat limited access to the internet.

What are these prisons you speak of? We have rehabilitation facilities that resemble clean and pristine neighborhoods to cater and reeducate criminals of all types.

Facilities for non-violent criminals are much like Ainin's stated above. though less apartment like and more utilitarian the cells have the amenities of home for those convicted of minor crimes. Violent criminals tend to lose more and more freedom as they progress until they come to nothing but a bed, toilet, sink, and a bookshelf. Some super-max facilities restrict movement to 23 hour lockdowns day and night, only for the most extreme killers and terrorists. Though on the brighter side, food is prepared at a high nutritional quality, Guards are trained to be as non-lethal as possible, elctroshock of any kind is outlawed, and religious meetings or sermons can be attended at prisoner discretion, or a private meeting with one's spiritual adviser.

We believe that kindness and therapy are the ways to divert criminals from their destructive paths back into civility. And thus far violence in prisons and on the streets has fallen.

Prisons are named "Labour Camps" (劳动营) in South Minorqa. There are in total 22 Labour Camps in South Minorqa, with 19 on Island No. 4 and 3 on the other islands. These labourers are expected to make themselves useful to the productivity of our country and they will be punished if they do not meet their quota of production for the day (However, we do not punish men and women over 50 as severely. They just have 1 visit lessened.). A labourer's cell usually comprises of one bed, one cupboard and one sink. Guards are not allowed to abuse prisoners unless they are not over the age of 50 and they have a valid reason to do so.

Penal Institutes within Mega-City 01 are honeycombed networks of isolation cubicles - isocubes. The smallest PI can hold 50,000 inmates. It is assumed, by the Judicatorate, that every citizen is, at one time or another, going to spend time in the cubes. A cube is typically 300 square ft and provides all necessary amenities. No contact with the outside world is permitted.

Deterrence is preeminent. Rehabilitation is impossible. The Law is absolute and unwavering.

Paparian prisons are underfunded,crowded and manned by some of the most sadistic prison guards you will ever encounter,who have no regards whatsoever for the well-being of the inmates.
Inmates must work to pay for their meagre prison meals and other basic supplies such as soap,toothbrush and tooth paste,among others.
Unofficial records state that an average of 60 inmates a month die in Paparian prison either by suicide,malnutrition or abuse by other inmates/prison guards.
The Paparian Prison Administration Department (PPAD),which oversees the running of prisons in Paparian,states in its vision that "PPAD strives to ensure convicted felons pay dearly for the crimes they have committed."
New prison guards recruits are instructed to treat inmates like animals and to use violence at all times.

There are three types of prisons in Freedenea. Standard, political, and labor.

Standard prisons are the most common type of prison. Standard prisons are usually large white buildings with many cells inside. They are also located within cities. The cells usually house up to two prisoners, but some larger ones with the capacity for up to ten exist. Prisoners in standard prisons are granted 3 visits from their families per month, but if they violate the rules of the prison, they can lose those visits.

Political prisons are the second most common prison type in Freedenea. Unlike standard prisons, they are located usually a few miles outside of a city. They are for political prisoners and focus mainly on rehabilitation of the political prisoners towards understanding why Freedenea is like it is. Around 73.26% of all political prisoners are successfully rehabilitated after only two months in the camps.

Labor prisons are the least common prison type in Freedenea, with only 7 existing. In labor prisons, you are never released and have absolutely no rights. Your family is not allowed to visit you, you are not exempt from being beat by the guards, and you generally share your living quarters with up to twenty other prisoners. Prisoners are given two bowls of soup to eat a day and everyone from the age of 15 up until 65 must work from 4:00 am until 10:00 pm, with fifteen minute breaks at 7:30 am and 7:30 pm for breakfast and supper. Prisoners over the age of 65 work from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Prisoners under 15 must attend mandatory education classes.

We don't call them prisons. Instead, we call them Society Protection Centres (Soc'ael Protayecta Zentra-SPZ's). Most first time offenders/offenders that have commited minor crimes are sent to a SPZ. The few individuals that are considered to dangerous to ever be released into society, or who cause troubles whilst an inmate of SPZ, can be held indefinatly under Section 5 of the "Protection of Indigo Seas Residents from dangerous Individuals Act" in a specifically designed, long-term centre. Recently, we have had to crack down on what an Inmate can have in a long term centre, as there have been many complaints that convicted murderers and rapists have spent there days playing on XBox's that have been brought in by relatives.

Indigo Seas refuses to allow prisoners to be held in inhumane conditions, however, the conditions in an SPZ are basic. Each Prisoner has a small individual cell that, depending on how the prisoner has behaved and cooperated with the team at SPZ, during the day he/she is allowed to leave his cell and wander the corridor they are on, and are allowed to socialize with the other prisoners. Prisoners are assigned a "job", so that they can work to give back to the society that they broke the laws of, and "rehabilitation programmes"-such as therapy-are compulsory. A prisoner will not be released if it is believed that he/she is likely to reoffend, or is still a danger to society.

Conditions in long-term SPZ's...are worse. Thankfully, there reputation alone is enough that many released criminals do not reoffend, fully aware that reoffending will most likely result in them being sent to a long-term SPZ.

Abuse in prisons is illegal, but not unheard of, especially in the long term SPZ. A prisoner in a long term SPZ who's chances of being released are low is more likely to be abused by staff, than a prisoner in a short term SPZ. We are working to find a solution to the "Hazing problem" in SPZ's.

We have prison facilities but not many due to our strict prisons and justice system. We have one in space that hasn't been used yet. Prisoners go into rehabilitation and contribute to their economy and people. When they get out, they can become normal factory worker, blacksmiths or even crafters.

The Neutrality Force don't really call a Prison a Prison. It a Work Camp. Of course prisoner can opt-out of the work program and get a hefty penalty.(3 meals a days, solitary confinement, and limited access to the prison facilities). But if you work in the Work Camp. Your benefits can include Two Work Credits a day (The average citizen can earn about 50-100 Work Credits a day), 4 meals a day, and full access to the prison facilities.

Our prison system is pretty basic but we take more of a reformatory style than most other countries.
There are 3 main federal prisons where inmates for the first couple years are given a cell to share with one other inmate. There are no amenities. There is a library where they can check out a book and a tv room that they can watch for two hours. There is also a yard where they can go and walk around for an hour. There is also solitary confinement for those individuals who do not comply. Other than meal time, all time is to be spent in the cell. Ends up being more than 17 hours a day.

This system is designed to make you hate prison and really make you introspective.

After, an inmate may transfer to another facility or stay at the same facility where they will begin seeing a counselor or work specialist that can help them get reformed to be put back into society. They can also get a job in the prison that amounts to maybe 3 or 4 hours a day that can help them give back to society (the work is usually hard labor).

In general, it isn't a terrible system. Our government is trying to exploit ways to make prison more mentally and physically grueling while trying to remain remotely humane...we expect to possibly see hard labor instituted across the board soon.

The prison system is the governments primary method of funding itself. Generally, criminals convicted of non-capital felonies will be given a choice between the gladiatorial arena and a labor camp. Labor camps will have awful conditions, and must be self funding. Those who choose the arena will be given more food and better accommodations, but have a shorter life expectancy. Those convicted of capital offenses can choose one of three options: the arena until death, suicide, or execution in keeping with their offense. They can also pay for a better execution.

Mama doesn't pen up Children who don't behave. They're just not allowed to play with the rest of us. If they're really stubborn, they may have to take "Time Out".

A Child that chooses to be antisocial would quickly find that the world has "turned against them". The strongest punishment available to a stubborn Child is "Time Out". This is where I temporarily "disconnect" the Child from the angel network, and force them to live with only their own thoughts in their head. I keep this as a last resort, because apparently it's quite terrifying to my Children. Just the threat of it is enough to bring the most stubborn and antisocial one about.]

What are prisons like in your nation?
The closest thing we have to formal prisons are the outskirts of our cities, to which nonconformants are banished for the duration of their sentence.

How does the system work?
Once convicted, a criminal is unfit to continue participating fully in Victor's affairs, and is sentenced to be suppressed until they have a change of heart. Suppression puts them in an unconscious, dreamlike state, during which they are totally susceptible to Victor's suggestions and work in boring / dangerous fields. Two-thirds of the day are set aside as free time, where they are released from suppression and allowed to do as they please (so long as they remain outside the city and commit no further crimes).

Ideally, the criminals' free time would be the perfect opportunity for them to engage in rehabilitation efforts, but in practice resources are often too limited to give every nonconformant the attention he / she deserves. Often, they simply go ignored during this time period.

Is abuse sanctioned and/or widespread in prison?
Victor does not abuse his people, whether they have committed a crime or not. Nonconformants sometimes try to harm one another, but this usually counts as further criminal activity and is stopped by Victor's psychic intervention.

What do they look like?
Outskirts are commonly pastures and orchards, and more rarely mines or quarries.

Prisons in Gandoor are generally very plain. Almost entirely painted white, save for things like paintings in group areas such as the cafeteria. All prisons have two types of cell, a smaller cell, which can house up to two prisoners, and a larger cell, which can house up to 5 prisoners.

The two-person cells consist of two beds located on opposite sides of the cell; a small bathroom with sink, toilet, and shower, a small television set, and two shelves to put personal objects on, as all prisoners are permitted to have up to 5 personal items with them in the cell, provided they are not weapons, overly large, or anything that can be used to facilitate an escape or commit suicide.

The five-person cell consists of up to five beds located in a large cell; a large bathroom with a sink, toilet, and shower-bathtub combo, a television set in the middle of the room (with chairs for them to sit in while watching), and a bookshelf to place personal objects. Both the two-person and five-person cells also have windows for viewing of the outside.

Outside of the cells, all prisons in Gandoor have a large cafeteria, which have a capacity of up to 500 inmates (even though the most populous prison in Gandoor has a population of only 230 inmates); an outdoor courtyard with a basketball court and a track; group areas, which will have books, a TV set (and unlike TV sets in cells, which can only receive GBN, GBN Alt, and GNN, TV sets in group areas are connected to cable and can receive 150 television stations and have access to on-demand features), and video game systems; a computer lab, where prisoners may access the Internet (there is a block on all computers usable by prisoners which prevents them from accessing social networking sites, gaming sites, pornographic sites, etc. and all computer usage is logged and prisoners may only use the computer up to 2 hours a day), and other facilities such as clinic for any health issues, a private phone call area to call any family members (calls are recorded and monitored by staff, but other prisoners may not listen in), and others.

As prisons in Gandoor are for rehabilitation more than punishment, punishments are very light and are basically just taking away privileges, both temporarily and permanently. So if you're a prisoner and you keep disobeying rules, eventually you'll find yourself without permission to leave your cell outside of going to the cafeteria, with no TV, no Internet, no video games, and no personal objects.

Prisons in this nation are administered by the Department of Corrections, Ministry of Judicial Administration.

There are also two primary types of prisons: juvenile prisons, holding prisoners under 20 and above 16, and regular prisons, where adult prisoners serve their sentences.

Juvenile prisons are quite uncommon as alternative penalties are noticeably preferred to incarceration. The prisons themselves, though, are more similar to boarding schools; there are no cells but dormitories. Adult prisons are similar to typical prisons in the West; each prisoner is given one cell, in which he can stay for the whole day. Daylight hours are generally free time for prisoners, who can walk around the premises and use any number of on-site facilities, such as movie theatres (no choice for film), restaurants, and gardens. Professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and accountants can choose to serve their sentences by unpaid service to the government. Inmates showing an inability to behave in a civil manner are not permitted to go beyond the prison cell.

Prison guards are generally of a hands-off type, not wishing to become privy of illicit dealings within the prison community. Thus, while tobacco and pornography are officially prohibited, they are in practise widely distributed and sold for prison coupons (currency in the prison shops, as cash is not allowed on prison grounds). Prison guards will not actively confiscate these articles unless others complain about them or immediately prior to a visit from a visiting official (such as a minister or senior civil servant from the Department of Corrections). However, should violence occur, they are obliged to stop these at onset.

Prisoners are generally permitted confidential correspondence with their relatives, as far as the prison officials are concerned; inspection may occur at other points in the postal system, but the prison officials are not aware thereof. Cellular phones are contraband of the type of cigarettes: inoffensive, innocent usage will not result in confiscation. Computers are more strictly censored as they may consume more electricity that the prison would like to pay, and there is no effective way to "hide" them during an unscheduled visit from a superior official.

Escapes are relatively uncommon as Chinese prisons for those serving long sentences tend to be located remotely. The locale on which a prison is built is not generally chosen for its seclusion, but for cost; inarable land distant to commercial centres tend to command low prices, and the government is unwilling to be ripped off by real estate speculators. A successful abscondment is a crime, though those smart enough to escape will probably be smart enough to conceal their identities as well. There is a statute of limitations on incarceration, generally about 25 years after being listed as a "wanted criminal".

Parole is available upon 1/3 of the sentence served for first-time offenders, and 2/3 for recidivists. Note that a criminal may have multiple convictions for larceny while still be a first-time offender for burglary. Parole availability is determined by statute and is not alterable by sentence of a court of law. Paroles are granted as a matter of course, barring extenuating circumstances, from the Ministry of Judicial Administration. Probation is in effect on prisoners on parole, and if he is convicted again of an intentional crime, parole is usually nullified and required to serve the rest of his sentence incarcerated.
