Gun rights and laws in your nation:

Postby The Narexian Socialist States » Mon Jul 11, 2011 2:44 pm

What are the laws and rights of your citizens to carry a lethal f***ing weapon? If so how must they carry (if any restriction at all)? How much ammunition are they allowed to have on them for say... a trip to the mall or whatever? Do your authorities/police suport private ownership of guns/weapons or do they try to confiscate them at every opportunity?

In Narexia, the very first line of The Narexian Constitution states: "All citizens shall have the permanent right to acquire and possess firearms and/or weapons so long as they are law-abiding and shall not jeopordize the safety and security of the nation."

Interpretation: Anyone shall be allowed to carry just so long as the obey the laws. Any citizen has the right to defend his/her self, anyone who is in his/her care/guardianship/custody and their property from any unprovoked attack(s). Let it be known that the right to defend one's self shall NOT be infringed upon in any way, shape or form by any means, methods or practices by ANYONE except law-enforcement/military where it is deemed that the law has been broken and/or there exist plans to break the law.

Firearms licenses are required by anyone wishing to obtain a firearm. They fall into several classes:

Class 1): For smoothbore shotguns and smoothbore rifles only. Weapons must not have a higher capacity than 3+1 rounds (rim-fire weapons must not have more than 10+1 rounds) and must not be semi-auto capable, auto or burst fire is also NOT PERMITTED. Restrictions: Not allowed to hunt except in grave circumstances (i.e. animal attack) and is only authorized to use any approved weapons for target, competitive or defense shooting only and this is NOT a Firearms Carry Authorization OR Firearms Transport Authorization. Weapons must not have a barrel length shorter than 24 inches. They also cannot have any attachments except a visible beam type laser pointer. Stock must be permanent, rigid, non-folding. Collapsing, folding or removable stocks are NOT PERMITTED. No caliber exceeding .270 may be used for rifles. Shotgun's are restricted to 16, 20 or .410 gauge.

Class 2): Rifled shotguns and Rifles only or smoothbore rifle and shotguns. Weapons are permitted to have a capacity of 5+1 rounds and 15+1 for rim-fire weapons. No semi-auto, full-auto or burst-fire weapons are allowed. Must have a barrel length of at least 20 inches. Rigid, permanent stock only. Optics may be used provided they are FPS-156-A certified & approved (look for sticker, sticker indicating this must be somewhere on the optical device itself to be valid). For rifles, no caliber exceeding .308 may be used. Shotgun's are restricted to 12,16,20 and .410.

Class 3): Semi-auto rifles and shotguns are permitted. NO HANDGUNS! Revolvers are however allowed as long as the caliber does NOT exceed .45 ACP and do not exceed 7 rounds capacity. Same magazine capacity restrictions apply for rifles and shotguns listed under class 3 as in Class 2. No burst-fire or fully automatic weapons are permitted. Barrel must be at least 18 inches. Folding or collapsible stocks ARE permitted. No caliber exceeding .440 may be used in any rifle. There are no shotgun caliber or gauge restrictions for Class 3 licensee’s.

Class 4): Handguns, shotguns and rifles: Rifles must not have a capacity exceeding 10+1 rounds, shotguns no more than 7+1 and handguns no more than 10+1 rounds. No magazine capacity restrictions apply for ANY rim-fire weapon. Barrel length for rifles and shotguns must be at least 16 inches. at least 4.5 inch barrel or longer for handguns. The Constitution says that the Federal Government cannot makes weapons laws, except those involving international/interstate trade. All provincial governments have fairly strong gun laws - you have to have to get a licence to own guns, and some types are banned.

The Gun Laws Insterstate Compact of 1973 means that all 24 provinces recognise each other's gun licences - therefore a gun licence in Lancre is valid in Ankh Morpork.

Provincial police officers don't normally carry guns, but members of the Gendarmery (federal police) usually do.

There are no registries. There are no restrictions. The only law is that if you have a criminal past, then you'd have to have a permit to acquire a gun. Beyond that, we have no Gun Laws. At all.

From the Minimum Design Specification of the Decepticon Body

"All Decepticons must, at the time of activation, have either two or more Standard Blasters permanently attached, or one single Blaster of Double or greater power permanently attached.

The attachment point(s) of the weaponry must be in locations that allow the Decepticon to effectively bring immediate or near-immediate lethal force to bear.

The Blasters must be maintained in an operational status throughout the Decepticon's lifetime and only removed for repairs or replacement."

The only people permitted to own firearms in Tsvarchi are members (past and present) of the National Militia, and members of the armed response unit of the Tsvarchivan police force.

Civilians can technically apply for a firearm license and permit, but unless they're sport shooters they are more likely to be denied - of the 12,000 applications for firearm licenses and permits in 2010, 12 were approved. Civilians owned firearms must be registered with the Advisory of Law Enforcement, owners must be finger printed, and if a firearm is lost or stolen it must be reported immediately. Failure to comply with these laws results in a $300 fine. They also cannot be re-sold unless to a registered gun shop, and under no circumstances a private sale.

Firearms also cannot be imported into or exported out of the country. Some 10,000 firearms are captured at various ports of entry every year, and some 4,000 are captured trying to be smuggled out.

Handguns, pistols, revolvers etc. are NOT legal for purchase or use by civilians.

Lever/bolt/pump action rifles and shotguns are legal for purchase by civilians living on islands/in areas of islands where it is legal to hunt. Civilian cartridges are loaded with black powder instead of smokeless powder.

Automatic weapons are not legal for use by anyone other than the police and military.

Level One Weaponry (swords ect, but no bows or guns) legal for most people in most places except schools and some national parks and of course jails/prisons.
Level Two Weaponry-longbows, crossbows, flintlocks, anything up to a revolver/sporting rifle/shotgun-legal in most places, except schools, banks if you are not a bank employee,jails/prisons,airports/seaports, government/royal buildings and the vast majority of national parks except a couple where hunting is allowed for one month of the year.
Level Three Weaponry-machine guns, bazookas, hand grenades and the like-only legal for police and the armed forces.
Level Four weaponry is serious military hardware and only the armed forces and the Royal Family may possess it.

Anyone sent to prison for more then a year loses the right to carry weapons above Level One, normally for life. Anyone vwho does anything really serious or is legaqlly insane is not allowed any weapons and is tattooed on the cheeks to show this.

If you use a bow or gun outside a shooting range, or a sword ect outside a sparring range, you need a pretty good reason to avoid arrest and a speedy trial.(ie self defence,or preventing a serious or violent crime.)

Robots are assigned appropriate weaponry depending on their functions.

There aren't restrictions in gun ownership for non-robots, but then again, non-robots have no rights whatsoever.
When referring to this nation, please call it "Eggman Empire", thank you.

Everyone has guns. There are guns literally EVERYWHERE. See that dark corner? There's a shotgun. That unused locker? An assault rifle. That nice-looking man's pocket? A revolver with incindiary bullets. There are no restrictions at all, and criminals would be able to own them if criminals weren't always executed on the spot by firing squad.

Citizens are only allowed a firearm under special circumstances that demonstrate a need, i.e. pest control, and for that they need to apply to State Security for a permit. State Security will then issue the weapon, complete with ID chip and the yearly allocated amount of ammunition. Permits are for one year only but are normally extended if sufficient evidence of need is demonstrated.

Ownership of firearms is constitutionally legal in Vermont, and a protected right of citizens since the first constitution drafted in 1775.

All may own rifles or handguns, however the automatic variety are much more closely watched, and logs of sale for these firearms are required to be reported to the government annually. Non-concealed and concealed carry of firearms is legal on all properties, at the discretion of a private property owner. The only nationally required forms of registration or regulation regards the safety of the firearm (towards gun companies) and the requirement that stores that sell firearms keep a log of all firearms sold, including customer name, gun type, gun serial ID, and country & company of origin. It is legal to both import guns through legal means and export them through legal means to and from Vermont, and provided that the same safety regulations are followed. Private re-sale of rifles and handguns is legal, however handgun re-sale must be reported to the government or to the private business where the firearm was respectively sold. Citizens are held liable for their fireams, and the EAC Commerce publishes an annual booklet of both general and gun-specific safety information that is legally required to be distributed at all firearms stores. Firearms safety and training courses are provided by many public and private institutions, but are not required for ownership.

Those in the Vermont Militia may choose to bring their own firearms when required, or be issued with firearms which they may keep or turn in once they leave the militia, depending of course on their role. Most law enforcement do not regularly carry firearms, but are trained to use them when issued for specific contingents.

Firearms possession is legal but the owner needs a licence to operate them. Firearms also need to be registered so as to help recovery in case of theft, and the prosecution of thieves.

Legal for everyone; it's actually unconstitutional for anyone to create a registry of firearms in the Front Range, since it could be used to disarm the populace. Almost everyone carries.
