National information
Official Name: Republic of Brem 大㐭民國
Shortened Name: Brem 㐭國
Requested Location: here
Requested Population: 81 million
Culture: Sichuanese/Ba-Shu culture
  • Ethnicity: !Sichuanese with pockets of Tujia, Tibetan, Naga, Assamese, etc.
  • Religion: Xiaodongese folk religions, Satyaism, shamanic/animistic religions, all given a very vague Amendist Sotirian gloss
  • Languages: Southwest Mandarin is most widely spoken
Government Type: Aristocratic republic
Head of State: Sen Cuan 孫川
Head of Government: Niu Uan 劉淵
Requested GDP Per Capita: $13,000
National Overview: Situated in a basin with a fertile river valley, Brem was historically a defensible and productive province of the Xiaodongese empires, and prior to that was inhabited by a civilization created by the !Tujia. Beginning in the late Jiao period increasingly powerful local governors asserted the region's effective independence although close relations were retained with the Xiao heartland, until it was reincorporated into a centralized Xiaodong under the Heavenly Empire. After Xiaodong lost the Great War and fell into civil war, generals with a local background redeclared independence and resisted an attempt at reannexation. The dictator Ni Xuan 李旋 implemented a reform program in the 1970s inspired by a hodgepodge of foreign ideas, among them Amendist social teachings, which has a strongly felt legacy today.

There is a diverse array of social institutions and forces wielding power in Brem, including traditional land-owning aristocrats, big tech entrepreneurs, temples and other religious institutions, secret societies, mutual aid associations, and government cadres tasked with creating special economic zones or other political experiments. Their patronage and power over the meek population overlaps and conflicts frequently, yet is also in many ways clearly delineated and distinct.

Brem is traditionally known for its spicy cuisine and sometimes beautiful women. It would historically be part of one of the trade routes linking Xiaodong to Hyndana and Zorasan, and would have played this to its advantage (even today), while accumulating appropriate cultural influences from the process. The economy is characterized by domination by SMEs, average living standards, employment of many in cottage industries, and lucrative tourism.

Brem's aesthetic is sort of 'rural/newly urbanized China' in all its absurdity
Military Overview: Relatively small but well-armed professional force supported by militias and an armed citizenry meant to deter or preempt Xiaodongese invasion, and occasionally mop up spillovers of nearby insurgencies.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Disapproval
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Indifferent
  • General population's view on atheism: Leaning negative
  • General population's view on abortion: Disapproval
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Indifferent
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Xiaodongese nouveau riche
  • View on immigration into country: Only approving of very limited, assimilation-capable talent import
  • Women's Rights: Principally respected but discrimination and prejudice is common
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Alcohol and tobacco are widely consumed while most other drugs are viewed negatively except in 'traditional uses'; nevertheless some areas have severe public addiction issues

Other:

  • RP Preferences: Character, military
  • RP Samples: Greatest serial on NS

National information
Official Name: Most Serene Republic of Baekjeong
Shortened Name: Baekjeong
Requested Location: Near Xiadong, not really tied to a specific locale
Requested Population: I’d like 70 million to 80 million
Culture: Korean, Malay, Taiwanese Aborigines
Ethnicity: Baeans, Vijayans, and Bumites are the three main groups with dozens of minor groups
Religion: Buddhism is the dominant and state religion
Languages: Baeo is the state language. Vijayan and Bumo are also spoken and have limited regional recognition.
Government Type: Constitutional Corporatist Oligarchy
Head of State: The Seonggol
Head of Government: The Jinggol
Requested GDP Per Capita: 25,000
National Overview: Ancestry is central to Baean society. Social standing is primarily determined through a semi-caste system called the Gol. A person’s Gol at birth is the average of their parents’ Gol. Gol are grouped into four groups called Mulrim. The top Mulrim is the Sarim. The Sarim are composed of nobles and royalty. The Sarim has 8 Gols. The top Gol is composed of one person, the Daughter of Heaven known as the Seonggol. It’s always the last born daughter of the prior Seonggol that inherits the position. The next Gol is the Jinggol. The Jinggol is the elected leader of the executive branch of Baekjeong. He is elected from the nobility by the commoners who are part of the various workers organizations. The next six Gols are the various nobilities of the realm. The royal family is always in the third Gold, which includes the Consort of Heaven, Princes, elder Princesses, and siblings of the Seonggol.

1st Mulrim | Sarim | Nobility

1st Gol | Seonggol
2nd Gol | Jinggol
3rd Gol | Royals and Baean Gukdongs(Grand Dukes)
4th Gol | Baean Gundongs (Lesser Dukes), Vijayan Gukdongs
5th Gol | Baean Hyeonhus (Marquess), Vijayan Gundongs, Bumite Gukdongs
6th Gol | Baean Hyeonnams (Count), Vijayan Hyeonhus, Bumite Gundongs
7th Gol | Baean Gaejas (Baron), Vijayan Hyeonnams, Bumite Hyeonhus
8th Gol | Baean Upper Gentry, Viyajan Gaejas, Bumite Hyeonnams

2nd Mulrim | Yangrim | Gentry
3rd Mulrim | Cheonrim | Commoners
4th Mulrim | Bramim | Lower Classes

In general, someone of Vijayan descent is a rank below a Baean peer and a rank above a Bumite peer. Marriage is freely allowed within your own Mulrim and with someone who is within one Gol of you. So someone who is a 9th Gol Yangrim can marry an 8th Gol Sarim. Gol both determines which jobs you can have and also can be a reward for obtaining a high position. A commoner who serves meritoriously in the tax offices may see themselves raised to the gentry as a reward. Likewise, a noble who offers valuable advice may see their Gol rise from 8th to 7th or even 6th. Generally speaking, Cheonrim and Yangrim have the greatest degree of social mobility and often freely flow between the two Mulrim.

The legislature is a tricameral body from each of the three top Mulrim called the Senate. The lower classes are not represented. The Seonggol appoints the Speaker of the Mulrim to head each of the legislature bodies, appointed from among each bodys’ ranks. The Speaker of the Cheonrim, and the Cheonrim Assembly, have the most powers, including purse. The Cheonrim are divided along labor lines, into powerful Farmer’s Granges, Automotive Unions, Teacher’s Unions, etc etc. The Sarim Council, composed of all Sarim, no longer has the power to block legislation or overturn the other bodies decisions. Rather they can delay and recommend and serve as the Jinggol’s advisors. The Yangrim Diet has the power to appoint the heads of each ministry and the ultimate right to conduct foreign affairs and war. Prior to Mediatisation, the country was a patchwork of free cities and fiefs. Fief size limits were placed on nobles, with lands over the limit seized and converted into provinces. Roughly three quarters of the land and eighty percent of the population resides in provinces. These are run by Councils drawn evenly between the two middle Mulrim, headed by the Jinggol’s Governor. On their own fiefs, nobles have quite a bit of power, albeit constrained by the constitution. Since the lower Mulrim are free to move as they please, nobles who abuse their powers often face destitution. The most common method to avoid upsetting the lower Mulrim is to create advisory councils so that their input may be felt.

Military Overview: Generally 2-3% of the GDP is spent on the military. Nobles are barred from having their own units. The army is the largest and most focused on branch. It’s somewhat light on armor, when compared to its Coian compatriots, due to the nature of Baekjeong’s geography. The army also makes heavy use of helicopters for airlift and ground attack. The air force is designed entirely for COIN and air defense. It is not expected that the air force will engage in offensive actions against other powers, but rather contest Baekjeong’s own skies. To that extent, there are no bombers in the nation’s inventory. Instead it is primarily interceptors and air superiority fighters, supported by a few multirole fighters and even fewer ground attack craft. The navy is mostly a green water affair. It has various types of destroyers, submarines, and two amphibious assault vessels. The government has been encouraging the development of domestic military industry, as well as encouraging foreign nations to license manufacture in Baekjeong. Many of the more high tech equipment must still be purchased from foreign nations.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: LGBT couples are forced to either adopt children or pay the state for a child in its care that they will 'sponsor'. Since they are not contributing to the future of the state, they must help others do so.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: State endorsed ones are allowed. Non-recognized faiths are tolerated if they stick to private worship
  • General population's view on atheism: Banned. The state religion is Buddhism, with a small set of other faiths, including Sotiranity, having official recognition.
  • General population's view on abortion: It’s considered socially akin to killing a family member, but the practice is state-sanctioned and tolerated, to an extent. Intensive pre-abortion counseling is required, as is the permission of the husband, except in cases of rape, incest, or medical emergency.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): There exists a sort of social hierarchy afforded by your race. Generally Baeans receive preferential treatment from the government, while Vijayans are left alone, and Bumites are discriminated against. In recent years there’s been a push to remove ethnic restrictions in the Gol, with several courts and even laws from the Senate which have slowly eroded the racial barriers. Natives from ethnic groups other than the three are somewhat freewheeling in terms of classification. Generally people from minority ethnic groups are classes according to the majority ethnic group they most look like. An Ogbei subject is treated akin to a Baean one, since they look alike. But their neighbors, the Aynu Soa, are treated like Bumites as they share much of the same features. Foreigners are generally treated around the middle of the pack.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: The lowest Mulrim, which is also dominated by Bumites, are viewed as lazy, dirty, and criminally-inclined.
  • View on immigration into country: It’s allowed. Encouraged for wealthy West Coians and Eucleans.
  • Women's Rights: Equal to men, but subject to gender stereotypes.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:

Tobacco: Illegal
Opiates: Medicinal
Marijuana: Religious Use
Alcohol: Legal
Mushrooms: Religious Use

Pretty much done, pending changes as advised by the LAs.

National information
Official Name: Kingdom of F̄ạ̀ngan (Anglicized Endonym) (Ratcha-anachak F̄ạ̀ngan (Latinized Endonym)/ราชอาณาจักรฝั่งะน)/Kingdom of Berseria
Shortened Name: F̄ạ̀ngan/ฝั่งะน (Endonym)/Berseria (Exonym)
Requested Location: Northern plot of these two.
Requested Population: 76,112,000
Culture:
  • Ethnicity: The vast majority of the populace are of the F̄ạ̀ngi people. A very small, but economically wealthy and well-treated Gaullican minority still exists from the colonial era, while sizable groups of Bahian migrants exist, having traveled to F̄ạ̀ngan from the states to its north to work.
  • Religion: Unsure of the religious composition of the area, so I'll leave this blank.
  • Languages: The official state language, and the language of the majority of the populace, is F̄ạ̀ngi. Gaullican is taught from a young age as a second language, however, while the Bahian migrants largely retain their own languages within their small communities.
Government Type: Confederal Constitutional Monarchy, currently in a state of 'temporary' federal martial law with civilian state governance retained.
Head of State: His Royal Highness King Sanpet VIII
Head of Government: Speaker of the National Parliament of Fangan Molthisok Tansoongnen
Requested GDP Per Capita: $22,101 (PPP) (Total GDP is $1,682,151,300,000)
National Overview: F̄ạ̀ngan, better known by the Euclean name of Berseria for the Berseri Dynasty, is a developing regional power in eastern Coius, although having played a careful balancing act between the continent's more influential nations, refusing to overly pick a side. The nation's line of monarchs has ruled continuously since the 12th century, unifying previously warring states into the Berseri Empire, warring frequently with it's neighbors to the north in the Wopoto Empire and its various successor states after its collapse in 1701. First contact with Euclea proper was in 1483, but a large scale Euclean presence did not begin to appear until the 1700s, with various vassals of the Berseri Dynasty selling off trading ports and rights in exchange for Euclean arms and wealth, the Berseri Dynasty following the example of its subjects by selling trading ports to Euclean powers to ensure the dynasty retained its edge over its oft-rebellious and power-hungry nobility.

A series of proxy wars between the Gaullican-backed Berseri Dynasty and two separate noble factions, backed separately by Estmere and Werania erupted in the mid 1700s, eventually ending in the Berseri Dynasty victorious over a cowed nobility, but the economic toll of the wars and the transfer of the economic concessions formerly granted to Estmerish and Weranian companies to the Gaullican South Coius Company resulted in the Berseri Dynasty being little more than a puppet for the Gaullicans, relying on Gaullican money and arms to suppress revolts against the Dynasty to retain power.

The Great War, in some ways, sparked the dynasty's resurgence; as Gaullican forces were pulled away to other fronts, the Berseri Dynasty reclaimed power, raising its own armies and becoming a de facto independent state once more, although devolving large amounts of power down to lower levels of government to placate a growing demand for democracy from a Gaullican-educated middle class. Granted to [Insert Colonial Power] in the immediate aftermath of the war, the newly-declared Kingdom of F̄ạ̀ngan fought a brief war of independence (similar to the Netherlands in the Dutch East Indies post-WW2 IRL), modern history is TBD with the rest of Coius.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Legal, but viewed as a matter to be kept private with public displays of affection making the majority of Fangi quietly uncomfortable.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Viewed as a person's right to choose their own belief.
  • General population's view on atheism: Viewed as a person's right to choose their own belief.
  • General population's view on abortion: Legal upon request, but culturally viewed as a last resort.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Largely accepted, provided they do not flaunt their own group.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: None widespread on a national level.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigrants are accepted, as long as they integrate smoothly into society.
  • Women's Rights: Enshrined in the Constitution of the Kingdom.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Monarchy-ruled, state government-controlled sale with separately purchasable licenses, severe punishment for illegal distribution.

Other:
  • Factbook: TBD.
  • RP Preferences: Just about anything.
  • RP Samples: Pfft.
  • RP Intentions: RP and worldbuilding.
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Nope.
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): None of relevance.
  • Anything else?: I hope this isn't a bust.

National information
Official Name: Federal Democratic Republic of Kroraine (Krorainentse Śamnäṣṣuva Miṃcuteya Cantre)
Shortened Name: Kroraine OR Shànshàn
Requested Location:
Image

Requested Population: ~20 million

Culture:
Kroraini culture is a long-running amalgamation of the ancient Hyndo-Euclean migrants who arrived some 2,000 years before present in the mountainous region between modern Xiaodong and Yi. Traditionally divided into many city-states and small kingdoms, the Krorainis have been subject to the intermittent suzerainty of the two aforementioned powers for nearly two millennia. As well as the autochthonic culture of the Kroraini people, influences from the surrounding people are heavily apparent in the manners, religion, arts, and cuisine of modern Kroraine.

  • Ethnicity: Krorainis (!=Tocharians), who may also be called Shanshanese; Xiaodongese and Yi minorities near borders
  • Religion: Nominally Satyism, but the form practised in Kroraine is deeply syncretic and blended with the autochthonic polytheistic religion. A very small minority also practice Mazdaism.
  • Languages: Kroraini (!=Tocharian-B); Xiaodongese and Yi minorities

Government Type: Federal Parliamentary Republic
Head of State: President Puñamitre Kaṣyāre
Head of Government: Prime Minister Vrauske Kunlyumeṃ
Requested GDP Per Capita: $2,842

National Overview:
Kroraine is an ancient, storied land, though only recently united under its own political will. The native people, the Krorainis, are descended from Hyndo-Euclean migrants from the north who arrived to settle the area some 2 to 3 thousand years before present, taking up residence in the mountain valleys and uplands between Yi and Xiaodong. Many centuries of living in the shadows of their neighbours have left their mark on the culture, religion, identity, and genetics of the modern Kroraini people, although their language still retains its Hyndo-Euclean character.

Save for the period between 630 and 1132, a single historical Kroraini state never existed — rather, for most of its history, Kroraine has been a handful of petty kingdoms, city states, and tribal alliances. Even into the 17th and 18th centuries, an ethnic Kroraini identity was hardly cohesive. It was only in the 19th and early 20th centuries that Kroraini nationalism welled up against the suzerainty of the Xiaodong state.

As a state, Kroraine is relatively young — only gaining its independence in 193x. Never truly united prior to that time, the nation has experienced many internal conflicts before reaching its current status as a federative parliamentary republic. Since independence, the nation has been in a constant game of catch-up with its more developed peers around an increasingly global world — abandoning its native script and Xiaodongese characters in favour of a Gaullican alphabet tweaked to better represent Kroraini in order to foster a connection with the wider world and experiencing drastic shifts in culture and general worldview. The nation is quickly urbanising but lagging in urban infrastructural development; the people are becoming increasingly restless as they move to the new cities in hope of a better life, only to find one worse than what they left on the terrace farms.

In spite of its young age, an at times turbulent political situation, and precarious economy, today's Kroraine shows promise for development — though it may need more than willpower to lift itself off the ground. It may be in the interests of the Kroraini government therefore to appeal to investors in wealthier nations to help kickstart the modernisation of the nation.

Military Overview:
Kroraine's military is small, with only about 95 thousand active personnel. Its main purpose is the defense of the state in the event of foreign insurrection. The military budget is about 1.6% of the nation's GDP.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people:
The Kroraini penal code forbids acts of homosexuality, prescribing a prison sentence of one month to less than one year, but the majority of the population are calling for reform in this regard. Still, LGBT+ people are not regarded with a great deal of respect, with many considering it "unnatural, but not criminal".
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one:
As the local religious varieties are highly syncretic anyway, other religions are not really seen as problematic unless they preach to invalidate our own.
  • General population's view on atheism:
It's considered highly unusual not to subscribe to any religion, and taboo to openly discuss atheist or antitheist topics.
  • General population's view on abortion:
Legal and not uncommon, but considered a socially taboo subject.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s):
Krorainis generally consider people who are visibly foreign to be exotic and noteworthy, but are generally very welcoming regardless.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation:
There is a widespread disillusionment with modern life and things that represent modernity among the lower classes. Specifically, rich foreigners moving to the cities often raise the ire of the common Kroraini.
  • View on immigration into country:
Generally negative; as a rule, non-native born residents of urban areas tend to be the rich who have come to "invest in" (read as exploit) Kroraini labour.
  • Women's Rights:
The traditional gender roles of Kroraini society historically were not as strict as would be expected from neighbouring cultures or from a Euclean point of view; men and women were traditionally equals in the hardships of rural life, and both polyandry and polygyny appear with equal frequency in rural communities.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
    • Tobacco is not widely used in Kroraine, due to the unsuitable climate for domestic production and expense of importation. Regular use of tobacco is therefore associated with wealth or foreign birth.
    • Alcohol in Kroraine traditionally consists of beers made from wheat and barley, as well as fermented rice beverages. A local culture of distilled liquors with high alcohol content simply doesn't exist and is again associated with wealth or foreignness.
    • Cannabis, while legally heavily regulated, isn't considered taboo and is widely applied for medicinal purposes. Its recreational use is traditionally associated with certain holidays, and it is generally found in an edible form by infusing into sweet beverages.
    • Ephedra, traditionally used in medicinal applications, is recently being refined into a narcotic which is plaguing the quickly growing urban areas.

KORLA -

The justiciar of the Korla district announced today that former Member of Parliament Baḍi Lyu, 58, would be released from federal remand centre into house arrest following an appeal by his legal representative. Lyu has been detained since 2017 on charges of corruption and solicitation of bribes equaling a total of approximately 1,000,000€ EUC.

The investigation will continue without interruption despite Lyu's release into house arrest. Lyu is believed to have solicited bribes from urban development companies in 2010 in exchange for amendments to contracts leading to a higher percentage of public transit revenue being returned to development companies, as well as the redirection of tax revenue in Korla to private shareholders.

"You've got it all wrong," said Lyu, maintaining his innocence in the face of the allegations. "I never abused my powers in such a way, and my interests have always been those of the people of Korla prefecture. The evidence will exonerate me in time, and I hope we will be able to move past this once the investigation is completed."

News of Lyu's release have already caused a great deal of distress among the taxpayers of Korla prefecture, many of whom publicly protested for the former MP's resignation when the allegations first surfaced in 2017.

"He screwed us," claims Tarma Väryaruci, a resident of west Korla district. "It's insulting that he's being released into his own home."

Lyu's home will be guarded 24-7 by a police detail, and the former MP will be required to wear an ankle monitor for the duration of his house arrest pending the end of the corruption investigation.

  • Languages: Etrurian is the official state language, with Himavantan (:notGujurati:), Hyndi (:notHindi:) and Zudabi (:notPunjabi:) as regional languages. Sanskrit is used as an official legal language. Oguzbeycha (:notUzbek:) is prominent in the eastern areas and is a regional language there. Other smaller linguistic minorities likely exist, but none are large enough to be officially recognised.
Government Type: Federal one-party state with limited local democracy.
Head of State: President of the Union Salil Balchandra
Head of Government: Premier of the Union Vimala Balchandra
Requested GDP Per Capita: $11,351 (Total GDP is $943,404,312,000)
National Overview: The Union of Hyndanan Republics, more commonly known as Ajahadya, traces its origins back to the Great War, and the Raja of Himavanta, the last independent Hyndic state. The Rajas, in the decades prior to the Great War, had played a dangerous balancing act between Gaullica and Etruria, and to a lesser degree Estmere, playing the colonial empires off against one another to retain his state's independence from all of them. The Great War ruined the careful balancing act, and although the Raja would remain neutral in the conflict itself, he would provide military assistance to anti-colonial movements in the Hyndic colonies of Etruria, forming numerous volunteer armies armed by Xiaodong to invade the Etrurian colonies.

The war ended in 1935, the Raja's attempt to crown himself Kaisar-i-Hynd thwarted, and now with large quantities of armed and unemployed soldiers within his country. Unable to control these groups, which had only been loosely under his authority in the first place, the country was plunged into a brief and bloody civil war between the troops of the Raja and the alliance of the veterans of the Great War. The alliance prevailed, and declared the Union of Hyndanan Republics, immediately entering the Solarian War in anticipation of the absorption of the former Euclean colonies into its territory. The end of the war saw the ambitions of the UHR denied, Hyndana carved up by Eucleans instead. The UHR waged a brief war, attempting to destroy the new states, but was ultimately defeated with the support of Euclea. Since then, the UHR has, like the Rajas, conducted a balancing act between ROSPO and COMSED, mindful of its strategic location and careful to play both sides for all it can get while committing as little as possible. Officially, the state retains an ideology of republicanism and Pan-Hyndananism, but realises the latter is not feasible anymore but still seeks to promote pan-Hyndanan cooperation despite its failure to unify the region by force shortly after its founding. In recent years, the country has firmly drifted towards the orbit of ROSPO owing to Mathrabumi, its main regional rival, joining COMSED although it has not officially joined quite yet.
Military Overview: The Ever-Victorious Grand Army of the Republic is a large force, if one largely equipped with vast stocks of surplus weaponry from anyone willing to provide it with it. Officers are chosen for political loyalty, with NCOs being trained and given independent initiative but watched by the military police and political officers for signs of dissent. The nation, being landlocked, does not possess a navy, and the air force is much like the army, vast in quantity if poor to middling in quality.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Criminalized, but rarely enforced, and with a large lack of social acceptance among the vast majority of the populace.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Religious freedom is enshrined in the constitution with all levels of government by law being secular; other religions are viewed with only a small degree of suspicion, owing to the the nation's plurality of religion and tradition of tolerance in combination with larger inter-religious affairs.
  • General population's view on atheism: Viewed slightly negatively, but the nation's plurality of religion and tradition of tolerance means it is largely accepted. Constitutionally protected.
  • General population's view on abortion: Illegal, with the ban being supported by the populace.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Largely accepted, with occasional incidents of ethnic violence that are punished harshly by the government.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: None, although the ethnic splits do result in some prejudice.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration to the UFRH is extremely limited, with immigrants being treated as something of an exotic novelty.
  • Women's Rights: Constitutionally protected under federal law, although there are some challenges to it from conservative Irfanic groups within the populace.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are legal with restricted ages of purchase, harder drugs are banned although the punishment for possession varies from state to state but is usually heavy.

Other:
  • Factbook: TBD.
  • RP Preferences: Pretty much anything.
  • RP Samples: You know me.
  • RP Intentions: Whatever
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: None.
  • Any troubles with moderation?: None of relevance.

National information
Official Name: Republic of Habasha
Shortened Name: Habasha
Requested Location: Area in purple
Requested Population: 64,315,036
Culture: (A brief summation of the nation's culture, language, and so forth. If it has a real-world equivalent or inspiration, be sure to list it here.)
  • Ethnicity: Mehare (!Amharic): 36.74%
    Galla (!Oromo): 25.16%
    Mensai (!Tigrinya): 11.08%
    Jeberti (!Tigre): 6.21%
    Sidamo (!Sidama): 4.10%
    Danakil (!Afar): 4.07%
    Wolamo (!Welayta): 2.33%
    Dhawamal (!Somali): 1.77%
    Gamo: 1.53%
    Others: 7.09%
  • Religion:
    Sotirianism: 55.1%
    Irfan: 28.2%
    Non-religious: 11.8%
    Traditional beliefs: 3.9%
    Other: 1%
  • Languages: 67 languages are recognized by the national government, however only five are defined as 'working languages'. Of these, the country's unofficial lingua franca is Mehare, spoken natively by the country's largest plurality, the Mehare people (36.7%) as well as by an increasing number of urban Mensai and Jerberti people, due to the closeness between their languages.

Government Type: Unitary, constitutional, democratic republic under a dominant-party system with authoritarian leanings.
Head of State: President of the Republic, Dr Yohannes Emanuel
Head of Government: Prime Minister, Dr Hailemariam Tewodros PhD
Requested GDP Per Capita: $19,918 (PPP), $14,761 (nominal)
National Overview: Habasha is one of the oldest civilizations in Kylaris and Bahia, dating back to Antiquity. Unlike many other areas of Bahia, the western hinterland of Habasha, thanks to the proper terrain and weather for large-scale agriculture, saw the development of state entities that were early adopters of Sotirianism. Conflicts with the expanding Irfanic emirates on the eastern coast would isolate the kingdom until the colonial time period. In the 19th century, the coastal, eastern zones of the country became a part of the Gaullican colonial empire, whereas the nascent Habashi imperial state became the 'shadow protectorate', retaining its independence and nominal autonomy thanks to the prestige of its rules and its ability to channel Gaullican influence and act in synchrony with them.

The modernization of the country began apace in the 1940s, but it would unleash tensions that brought down the monarchy in 1952, giving way to a pseudo-socialist military regime that governed the country from 1952-56 as ethnic tensions between Mehare and Galla worsened, ultimately resulting in the 1956-59 civil war. After 1959, right-wing nationalist General Dengel came to power, instituting a Mehare chauvinistic, secular, right-wing government overthrown in 1970. The largest success for the Dengel regime was the (re-)incorporation of Irfan-majority territories to the country in 1964. After 1970, a democracy was created, and it soon came to be dominated by the DPP, a social democratic party. Beginning in the late 1970s, the DPP, making use of its large majorities, reshaped the political system to favor itself, through authoritarian practices with the excuse of implementing the party's economic and multicultural agendas. Output-wise, these have been greatly successful, as the massive economic growth, social development of the country attest to, as many Habashi technicians expect the country to become a 'developed country' by the mid-2020s.

The DPP today is a pragmatic, economically and socially somewhat liberal party that has decided that the best way to stay in power indefinitely is to maintain a somewhat rigged democratic system (there is opposition, but it's largely irrelevant, there are many rights that are more restricted that in Euclean democracies) and above all to pursue economic growth to put the past behind the party, it's all about the future and social harmony in the present.

Military Overview: The Habashi military consists of 446,844 military personnel, 129,789 of which are active. It's a professional force since 1999. In 2015, the military spending was at $28.7 billion, or 2.9% of the country's GDP. The military's domestic role is a hotly contested topic, as it has been very involved in dealing with the Medhri Bahri Insurgency since the late 60s until 2006. During that time, martial law and human rights abuses were commonplace. On the plus side, the Habashi military is probably Bahia's best-equipped and has given birth to some of the world's finest experts on counter-insurgency techniques.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Homosexuality and homosexual activities are legal and protected. In urban Habasha, where the DPP line and social liberal views are more powerful, homosexuality is tolerated and accepted, but in the countryside, it is still subject to social ostracism, resulting in the exodus of homosexual youths to the larger cities.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Habashi Sotirians have negative perceptions of Irfan, as they closely associate it with foreign invasions, chaos and the country's decline for the better part of four centuries. The DPP actively tries to fight this perception in the name of its multicultural society, but it's ineffective.
  • General population's view on atheism: Problematic in the countryside, tolerated in middle-sized cities and fairly common in the large metropolis like Gondar.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is legal, but not available on demand. Here too, the urban-rural divide is significant, with significant stigma - or worse - in the countryside and a more tolerant attitude in urban areas, nevertheless, abortion are usually kept secret from family members and friends.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Ethnic relations between Mehare and Mensai and Jeberti have been historically good, and remain so as they form the core of the state, relations with the Galla have become formalized, and old hatreds and prejudices are now used for in jest than for real. Views on Irfanic peoples are much less forgiving.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Nothing further I can think of.
  • View on immigration into country: There is little external immigration so far, but it is not problematic in urban areas, and nearly unheard of in rural areas where people would be more prejudiced.
  • Women's Rights: Habashi's successive government has fought very hard for gender equality and as such, Habashi women enjoy some of the best legal status on the world on paper, and a status that many would envy across Bahia and even some countries in Euclea. Female emancipation is understood by the DPP as a way to guarantee further liberation of talent to fuel the country's socio-economic development.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are legal, but regulated. The increased availability of alcohol in rural areas has become a problem, and authorities are developing ways to tackle the issue.

Other:

National information
Official Name: Conpatrian Republic
Shortened Name: Conpatria
Requested Location: Can I do this later or does it have to be right now? There's that EU type place in the NW continent, I would be happy to fit in there someplace.
Requested Population: 40-50 million
Culture: (Copied from my application to Esquarium (RIP): High-quality Spain ripoff. Conpatria is a Western European type democratic republic which generally looks nice and is fun to have around. In regions past, we have been keepers of the peace through reasoned diplomacy while standing as a bastion of political stability in an area of Noctur (may God rest her soul) known for its chaos. Conpatria is a friendly nation, eager to make allies, but not so naïve as to be stepped on by the big boys and girls.

  • Ethnicity: Conpatrians (Iberians) and all the fun ethnolinguistic diversity that comes along with them!
  • Religion: Roman Catholicism or whatever the equivalent is in this world. Though Second largest group would be irreligious.
  • Languages: Conpatrian (Galician), plus minority languages based off Spanish, Catalan, etc.
Government Type: Democratic republic. Haven't decided which kind of democratic republic, though.
Head of State: President of the Republic (ceremonial)
Head of Government: President of the Government (executive)
Requested GDP Per Capita: 40K? 45K? Whatever makes sense for a nation like this in Kylaris.
National Overview: I'm willing to change much of this so I can fit in with my future neighbors, but kind of a mix of Iberian and Spanish American history. Longtime monarchy/empire followed by decline into second- or third-rate status and a few decades/centuries of chaos and fascisty dictatorship, leading to a modernist kind of liberal prosperity brought by mixed-capitalist Western Euro yadda yadda. Again, willing to amend this to fit in.
Military Overview: Not much. Consider us like Ireland, giving our military over to whatever international organization we've joined. NS says my country spends 6% on defense, that seems too high.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Very favorable (like Spain, Conpatria is very gay)
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Favorable
  • General population's view on atheism: Favorable
  • General population's view on abortion: Generally accepting
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Generally accepting
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: There are some leftover old nationalists from the dictatorship who have a bit of a macho complex. Think of the Vox party in Spain.
  • View on immigration into country: Generally accepting
  • Women's Rights: Very good
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Alcohol is consumed widely and Conpatria produces a lot of wine. Tobacco is also popular. Most other drugs are decriminalized, though none have been legalized for recreational use.

Are you guys still taking applications? 'Cause if so...
National information
Official Name: The Kingdom of Thefensia
Shortened Name: Thefensia
Requested Location: Don't know if this part has been requested yet...
Requested Population: 11 million
Culture: The people are generally very expressive and like being informed of national, but especially international, news. The entertainment industry is the most prominent, especially when it comes to TV series and theatre.
  • Ethnicity: *I'll leave this vague*
  • Religion: *Apathetically follows religions of colonizers, plus...* An indigenous religion that supposedly allows any follower to become a deity after death if they just believe enough, basically worships the dead.
  • Languages: *The language of whichever nation was their colonizers', plus some obscure indigenous languages*
Government Type: Parlamentarian Monarchy
Head of State: King Dean Misho Ravinder
Head of Government: Dov Motta
Requested GDP Per Capita: $15,160
National Overview: It was originally a community located in the west of the country, and it underwent colonization (still working on the general history thing). It's a liberal centrist country, divided into 10 regions, 3 of them being cultural/historical centers, other 3 being economical/technological centers and the final 4 being the ones with the best landscape.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Have recently started to be more respected and accepted.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Mostly viewed with apathy, but so is the primary religion.
  • General population's view on atheism: As apathy grows towards the main religion, it is starting to become the general consensus.
  • General population's view on abortion: There are very mixed opinions about it, so it has become a slightly taboo subject.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Respected and accepted into society.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: There are too many taboos, an example can be seen above. Thefensians generally avoid conversations that aren't specifically in the headlines.
  • View on immigration into country: Not only accepted, but recommended by most citizens. Thefensians are great with hospitality.
  • Women's Rights: Not something that's really discussed anymore, but there are still differences in salary and association with typical social roles.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:Drugs are outlawed, but there is a lot of illegal traffic, and a few activist movements petitioning its legalization.

Other:
  • Factbook: *Plan to make one soon hopefully*
  • RP Preferences: Diplomatic and maybe natural disaster RPs. I'm not great with war RPs.
  • RP Samples: Never taken part in this type of RP before.
  • RP Intentions: Mostly worldbuilding, but maybe a little RP.
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: This is my primary one, I also have Windeol.

National information
Official Name: Republic of Kaiye-Tourie
Shortened Name: Kaiye-Tourie
Requested Location: The thing from the discord
Requested Population: 6,312,397
Culture: The dominant native culture in Kaiye-Tourie is based upon that of the Albori people, with substantial influence stemming from the colonial powers.
  • Ethnicity: Albori (!Songhay), with a large percentage being Métis (mixed race) with some Gaullican ancestry too. There are also significant !Mandingo populations.
  • Religion: Relatively evenly split between Irfan (40%), Sotirianty and traditional animism (30% respectively).
  • Languages: Albori (!Songhay), Gaullican, !Dioula and !Bambara
Government Type: Autocratic Socialist Republic
Head of State: President Baptiste Muusu
Head of Government: Prime Minister Maurice Sanogo
Requested GDP Per Capita: 22,812
National Overview: Kaiye-Tourie, officially known as the Republic of Kaiye-Tourie (Albori: Kaaytuuri Hayboorey, Gaullican: République du Kaiye-Tourie), is a sovereign state generally considered to be part of the Bahia region. It has a population of over 6 million people, over three million of whom live within the capital city of Urafaada.

For much of its history, its location commanding the mouth of INSERT GULF NAME HERE has made Kaiye-Tourie an important trading site. Several key states established themselves here, with the most powerful being the Kingdom of Kambu who ruled between 1100 and up until the 19th century. By this time, the Kambu had become corrupted and highly weakened, and in 1813 the area came under the control of Gaullica after the voyage of Admiral Jean-Luc Boschung. Kaiye-Tourie remained under Gaullican sovereignty after the fall of the empire in the late 1850s, though it gained some autonomy at this time. The Kingdom of Kambu was maintained as a local proxy for foreign rule. However, during the 20th century, Albori nationalism rose in relevance. Influenced by leftist thought and national tradition, the Popular Liberation Movement (PLM) saw the old monarchy as a tool of imperialism. They started a guerilla conflict, which gained steam after Gaullican sovereignty was replaced by Weranian control and by 1956 the colonial government withdrew leaving Kaiye-Tourie as an independent nation. Alfaga Fun-Funey, the leader of the PLM, assumed power and set about creating the modern state of Kaiye-Tourie. He restricted political expression and began to develop a socialist economy, influenced by anti-colonial and nationalist sentiments as well. Since his death in 1976 the nation has remained under the control of the PLM.

In the modern day, Kaiye-Tourie is a moderately wealthy nation, with one of the highest GDP per capitas in the region and high levels of development in urban areas. This is owed to the nation's expansive oil reserves, as well as exports of cash crops such as sugar, tobacco and cacao. Despite this, many rural areas are significantly less developed. The political system is best described as a dictatorship, with only one legal party in government and freedom of speech significantly restricted. Tensions between ethnic and religious groups are largely suppressed due to a "carrot and stick" approach which is aided by the relative prosperity of the nation. Corruption remains a major issue, affecting all levels of government. This has been combined in recent years with the expansion of drug trafficking, leading many to fear that Kaiye-Tourie is at risk of becoming a narco-state.

Military Overview: The military of Kaiye-Tourie is small but well equipped. Due to the stability of the domestic situation the standing army is limited to around 40,000 active soldiers, with most money going to the navy and air force. The reasoning is two-fold, as it both ensures that Kaiye-Tourie will be safe from foreign threats and ensures that the military is unable to pull off a coup d'etat.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: While homosexual activity is not criminalised, same-sex partnerships and gender transitions are not legally recognised. There is still lots of stigma against LGBT activity, especially in the rural areas.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Officially accepted, as Kaiye-Tourie is a religiously puralistic nation. Despite this, there are lots of simmering tensions.
  • General population's view on atheism: Accepted, as above
  • General population's view on abortion: Illegal after first trimester without significant reason, strong stigmas in rural areas.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): While not openly violent, prejudices are widespread.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Anti-immigrant sentiment is present, in particular against !Arabs who are seen to bring violence and crime
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration is not seen well,
  • Women's Rights: Legally speaking there is very little discrimination, but Kaiye-Tourienne culture is quite patriarchal so this leads to pay gaps and lower women participation rates in the workplace.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
Alcohol and tobacco are widespread and produced by Kaiye-Tourie, drugs illegal and heavily punished. Despite this, Kaiye-Toure is a vital waypoint in the international drug trade and a key producer of many drugs.

Head of State: President Anssi Keskitalo
Head of Government: Premier Viljo Saarela
Requested GDP Per Capita: $16,228
National Overview: Velzemia has had a long history relating to it's western neighbour, Narozalica. From 1722 until 1860 and again from 1940 until 1981 the country was a part of Narozalica. It gained independence in 1981 following internal political turmoil within Narozalica itself. However, in 1982 civil war broke out in Velzemia itself between the two major ethnic groups, the Vichods and the Seniaks, leading to a 3 year civil war ending in 1985 with the signing of the Paltamo Peace Accords which created the current form of government. However, since the signing of the peace accords the designated Narodyn area within Velzemia has been occupied by Narozalica with government institutions in the area being heavily influenced by the occupying force. In the current day the peace between the Vichod's and the Seniak's remains uneasy unstable coalition governments, normally made up of centre-left parties, governing the nation at a federal level. Premier Viljo Saarela has served in the position since 2006 offering a sense of stability for the past decade and becoming well-respected for his ability to navigate the nations many political crises.
Military Overview: The nation operates a military force of around 135,000 active troops. It has been criticised for it's ineffectiveness due to appointments to higher ranks being based more on ethnic parity than the ability of those being promoted. The military is also underfunded with just 1.3% of gross domestic product being spent on the military annually.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: The view of LGBT+ rights and people varies throughout Velzemia. In majority Vichod urban areas it has come to be much more accepted with acceptance being high in some urban areas of Senia as well. Same-sex relationships are legal throughout Velzemia but there are no protections offered to LGBT+ people in the workplace and there remains significant barriers for LGBT+ people attempting to access healthcare services or bureaucratic services such as changing their legal gender.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Much of the population is only nominal in their faith and acceptance of different sects is common. Some more uncommonly seen foreign religions may face prejudice.
  • General population's view on atheism: With a large atheist population atheism is widely accepted in urban areas. However, in rural areas it is frowned upon, particularly within Senia.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is legal throughout Velzemia following a law passed in 2008 at the federal level. However, in Senia significant obstacles have been put in place such as overly strict regulations on abortion providers, a lack of funding for abortion and attacks on abortion centres by various groups being ignored by the police.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Most sentiment against different ethnic groups is against groups within their own nation.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Inter-ethnic marriage between Vichod and Seniak people is taboo and families can sometimes cut off brides and grooms but in recent years inter-ethnic marriages have seen a significant increase.
  • View on immigration into country: Many people are weary of immigration into the country, however this is more common among the Vichod's due to their fear of Marolevic groups moving into the country and gaining more power over the government in the favour of the Seniak's.
  • Women's Rights: Over recent years women have received more protections with laws being passed in both Vichodnia and Senia such as laws granting them equal treatment in the workplace. The number of women entering work has also increased significantly and societal pressure upon women to get marriage has lessened.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and Alcohol are commonplace in life for all groups across Velzemia with an estimated 32% of the population thought to smoke regularly and a large majority of the adult population drinking regularly. Other drugs, like pot, are illegal and can be punished by up to 25 years in prison.

Head of Government: Minister of State Takiyok Allais
Requested GDP Per Capita: 33,606
National Overview: The earliest entry of the Ammassans in Ammassa is thought to have occurred about 2500 BC. From around 2500 BC to 800 BC, southern and western Ammassa were inhabited by the Sahaqqa culture. Most finds of Sahaqqa-period archaeological remains have been around Fitzgerald Bay, including the site of Sahaqqa, after which the culture is named.

The First Euclean’s arrived in Ammassa in the Summer of 1585 although the Island had been mapped down previously. The first Caldish settlers established the settlement of Ballinderry (now Maizon) on the Greizeu Peninsula.

The colony was acquired by Gaullica in 160X in the Treaty of TBD. Gaullican colonists began a campaign of “Gaullicization” to promote the Gaullican language and Solarian Catholicism. Many settlements and geographic locations were renamed into Gaullican. Ammassa became a Colony of the Gaullican Empire in 1762 under the Maizon Declaration Signed and formalised in the Capital of the New Capital of Maizon.

In 1920 following the rise of the Popular Party the Underground Paramilitary (Free Ammassa) was established and targeted Gaullican’s and natives who supported the Functionalist reigime. Upon the beginning of the Great War Support surged for the group who planted bombs in various points around the country. Ammassa was cut off from Gaullican supplies and trade by the “Grand Alliance’s” navies and was subsequently in De-facto Rebel hands except for the small Gaullican Guard in the Central District of Maizon.

Upon Gaullica’s defeat in the Great War the victor’s held a referendum on the future of Ammassa with the option of either independence of joining Cassier. An overwhelming majority voted for in
favour of Independence and the Ammassan Republic joined the Community of Nation’s in December of 1935
Military Overview: (TBD)

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: LGBTQ Marriage has been recognised in Ammassa since March of 2018 and members of the LGBTQ accepted as equals and same-sex marriage is practiced nationally. The main opposition to LGBTQ rights is the hardline native Ammassan communities in the far-north and Evangelical Solarian Catholics in the Gaullican Minority.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: The State operates a policy of tolerance and acceptance of all religions. The First Equality act of 1944 ratified and confirmed that Ammassa is a Secular country and that no religion would ever be adopted as the sole religion of the country.
  • General population's view on atheism: Accepted and more common in Urban Area’s and left-leaning Progressive area’s of the country.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is legal and funded as part of the National Health Department throughout the country. A heavy social stigma exists in Evangelical Solarian groups and protests outside of Abortion Clinic’s are common and sometimes turn violent.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): As a multi-ethnic state all ethnicities and race’s are protected under the law but discrimination exists against all groups, primarily against the native populace by some members of the Euclean Community and vice-versa.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Native communities often view the Euclean communities as corrupt and upper-class, this has lead to a rise in Racially motivated attacks against the Euclean Community.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration is welcomed and accepted and is seen as a supplement to the falling birth rates nationally and the ageing populace. The largest number of immigrants ever recorded in Ammassan history post-independence was observed in 2017. Hardline Euclean and Native groups are more sceptical of immigration but are still mostly tolerant.
  • Women's Rights: Women have always been allowed to vote in elections and referendums since independence in 1935 and have participated in various governments. Anti-sexism legislation was added to the national constitution in 1982 preventing discrimination against Women and various minority groups.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:Marijuana is legalised and taxed by the Government. Tobacco is considered Taboo and is not legal to smoke in public. The legal drinking age for Ammassan’s is 18. Alcohol related deaths are low but slowly increasing due to a rise of Alcohol use especially for unemployed and working class citizens.

Ammassa for the Future MP thrown out of the Party
Former Foreign Minister and Ammassa for the future MP Eithne Ní Miadhacháin was ejected from the Party today after voting for legislation which would expand the size of Maizon Qilaq International Airport. The controversial legislation was passed 62-58 with Eithne’s support being crucial for it’s passing. Ní Miadhacháin Served as foreign minister from 2012 to 2017 when she resigned to run for leadership of the party which she lost in a close race to Prime Minister Aput Léger.

Miadhacháin has previously rebelled against the government, most notably when she voted against legislation which would see the recognition LGBTQ Rights nationally because it didn’t include anti-discrimination measures. Miadhacháin was elected the first openly Lesbian MP in the Country’s history being elected in 1995 in Central Maizon.

Reportedly Miadhacháin is seeking to set up her own Party along with David Grandjean the former Socialist Democrat MP who resigned after the 2017 Party Conference in which the party took a turn to the left under former leader Nasamiituuq Deloffre who was forced out earlier this year after the party’s disastrous results in the local election. Both MP’s were seen together in a Cafe near Parliament today sparking rumours of a new party.

If the rumours are true the party would be the first new registered party in Parliament since 1996 when the Neo-Functionalist “Popular Development Party” was formed and subsequently removed from Parliament in the 1998 Special Parliamentary Election.

In a statement released on his Twitter Account, Prime Minister Léger said he was sorry that Miadhacháin was removed from his party but that her actions have went against the government in a crucial piece of legislation which was included in the Party’s yearly manifesto.

National information
Official Name: The Yavorstranan Federation
Shortened Name: Yavorstrana
Requested Location: This proposal was shown to me a while back; but if somewhere else would serve better then I'm happy to look.
Requested Population: ~62 million
Culture:
  • Ethnicity: Primarily not!Russian, with a handful of relatively minuscule minorities as would befit possible neighbors and a larger minority from Narozalica
  • Religion: Primarily Sotirianity, though I envision the breakdown being a bare majority of ~40% nonreligious or something along those lines, with Sotirianity close by and other religions (including perhaps a native pagan setup or significant shared religion with Narozalica) making up the difference.
  • Languages: While several languages are recognized with regard to the international lingua franca and the primary languages of neighbors, the primary language by far is not!Russian.
Government Type: Semi-Presidential Parliamentary Republic
Head of State: President Polina Volkova
Head of Government: Prime Minister Nikolay Antipov
Requested GDP Per Capita: Roughly $18k nominal
National Overview:

Yavorstrana initially coalesced around 1000 CE, with the various tribes which had settled across part of the modern country coming under the nominal rule of the Prince of Yuriatin. The Yuriatin Princes continued to consolidate power over the next century, expanding across more of modern Yavorstrana until the fledgling principality came up against powers greater than the array of chieftains and others which it had faced thus far. The Yuriatins would begin a series of conflicts with their neighbors, notably the various Princes of the Yavorstrana and other elements then in modern Narozalica, entering 1200 CE; these conflicts would sow discord across the various principalities, and saw the Prince of Yuriatin eventually supplanted by one of the Yavorstranan Princes, incidentally called Yuriy I, by 1275. Yuriy and his successors would intermarry with the Yavorstranans, and conquer the remainder, throughout the rest of the 13th and into the 14th CE, at times coming into direct conflict with forces in Narozalica. Much of northern Yavorstrana would come under the heel of the Narod conqueror Nikolai of Lipa, and parts of the country were contended as late as the War of the Triple Alliance.

With the strengthening and unification of nations such as Gaullica and nearby Narozalica, the Yuriatin Princes officially proclaimed the Grand Principality of Yavorstrana, with the Kremlin of Yuriatin to serve as its capital, in 1428. From here, the successors of Yuriy (and several others, as the throne passed back and forth between noble families and schemers alike) attempted to maintain the Yavorstranan demesne, engaging in conflicts with several neighbors and finding mixed results. This varied level of success led to numerous internal conflicts, both exacerbated by and encouraging the cycle of new rulers and ruling families until 1604. At this point, with the support of several powerful nobles and a battle-hardened levy fresh from putting down renewed rebellions in the name of the Yavorstranan Grand Prince, the Prince Nikolay Sokolov led a final coup against the Yuriatin Kremlin, destroying much of the citadel and proclaiming himself Vozhd - leader, or guide - of the Yavorstranan people.

Sokolov would rule Yavorstrana with an iron fist, and passed that legacy to his eldest son when he died of old age in 1656. The nation, now referred to as the Yavorstranan Dominion under the Vozhd and Autocrat, maintained a significant serf population; some estimates around 1750 put the percentage of serfs as part of the entire population of Yavorstrana at over 40%. The serf system set Yavorstrana behind many nations entering the 19th century, and the lack of a “strong guide” as Vozhd has been blamed for the performance of the nation in the 1852-55 War of the Triple Alliance. As the serfs had not yet been freed, many were conscripted into the bloated and badly funded Army of the Vozhd; and while Yavorstrana found certain successes and failures in turn on the battlefield and even joined the “winning” side, it was at the cost of hundreds of thousands of serfs sent to the slaughter. Yavorstranan involvement in the Triple Alliance war can be traced to lands which had been contended between Yavorstrana and Narozalica since the 14th CE; much of northern historical Yavorstrana had been conquered under Nikolai of Lipa and his successors, and subsequent centuries had seen the lands contended several times. The Vozhd brought Yavorstrana into the conflict primarily with an interest in retaking these lands yet again, but this would not happen until the Narozalic Civil War directly after the Triple Alliance war ended. Instead, Yavorstranan forces were broken upon Narozalic and other hostile forces.

The War of the Triple Alliance would, as in several other nations, precipitate the downfall of the governing regime in Yavorstrana even despite Yavorstrana being on the ‘winning’ side. The rebuilt Yuriatin Kremlin was torched first in 1858 after Vozhd Alexei II rejected a proposed reform of the serf system, and yet again in 1870, with the Vozhd taken prisoner alongside his immediate family. The 1858 revolt can be tied to the civil war in Narozalica, as the Vozhd had expressed significant interest in sending elements of the Yavorstranan army to seize border regions there. Ultimately, conflicting priorities between reactionary elements of the Yavorstranan court and imperialist expansionists halted any action beyond sending a professional occupation force to undefended regions of northern Yavorstrana which had been under Narozalica’s government since the last direct war between the two nations, and the second burning of the Kremlin solidified the desire to maintain the status quo. The 1870 revolt, called the ‘New Revolution’, was led by several disaffected nobles and peasants alike under the banner of so-called Constitutional Democrats, or Kadets, in tandem with elements of the military uninterested in further violent repression. While the Vozhd, by now Yevgeniy I after Alexei II’s death in 1866, would remain in custody of the Kadets for the next four years, a bloody civil war to install any of a nascent peoples, or workers, republic, a new absolutist monarchy, and the Kadet’s preferred constitutional monarchy broke out. While Yuriatin would fall once, and see its name changed to Svobodny in 1872 by forces of the worker/serf state before being returned to Yuriatin after being retaken by Kadet forces, the actual Kremlin itself remained uncharacteristically steadfast.

The conflict was brought towards a close with the unification of moderate workers and serfs with the Kadets, as each side was primarily against the reinstitution of the previous system. By 1874, both forces of the absolutists as well as the far left elements of the workers movement were crushed. Vozhd Yevgeniy had been killed during the siege on Yuriatin Kremlin, and his own son Nikolay was never crowned; instead, under the terms of their agreement with the socialist moderates, the Kadets installed an elected head of state and converted the previously appointed single-chamber Assembly of the Land (or Zemsky Sobor) into a bi-cameral State Council and the State Duma. Elections were held in 1875, and the first President of the recovering Yavorstrana was elected by the Duma, Council, and other indirectly elected representatives in a constitutional convention in 1877. The first official constitution of Yavorstrana was ratified in 1880, with a significant overhaul occurring in 1898 to account for overcompensation against a strong central government by the initial framers while also implementing an explicit Federal structure with eleven states. These decades after the civil war are characterized by an inward bent, as the nation tried to recover from the years after the War of the Triple Alliance coupled with civil war.

Yavorstrana maintained its recovery through much of the first quarter of the 20th CE, until yet again the opportunity to engage in a conflict with Narozalica presented itself; despite the change in government and leadership on both sides, Yavorstranan sentiments remained strongly anti-Narozalic. (particularly need more background to expand here, but I assume this will come as the app progresses; I also assume that a fair amount of later Yavorstranan history hinges here, so I’d like to discuss)

Yavorstrana struggled through the new century, still recovering in many ways from the end of the civil war and the freeing of millions of serfs. Industrialization had been late in coming to the country, and the old growing pains can still be evident in the modern day. As of the present day, the Federation is a relatively stable if underdeveloped republic, consistently maintaining electoral integrity and a flourishing political scene. Several concerns exist, however; the country has been slow to modernize, as evidenced by its levels of wealth and considerable amount of the population still employed in a rural or outdated factory setting. Further, the electoral integrity of the country has become less certain moving forward, as international affairs not under the control of Yavorstranan politicians affect opinions and decisions within the country. Other potential problems include cold or hot hostilities with illiberal regimes around Yavorstrana, possible involvement elsewhere should the government overextend itself, and an increasing brain drain as capable individuals depart the country for better prospects should the economic situation not improve.

Military Overview: The Yavorstranan military is relatively small, with a focus on local issues and general policing matters when they are relevant; it would be a contributor to international peacekeeping forces. Its officer corps is selected based on merit. It has a naval force capable of mostly coastal defense, and an air force primarily meant to defend in the event it should become necessary.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Positive; generally socially accepted, decriminalized in the mid 20th CE.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: The government’s official policy is secularism per the constitution, and with many in the population being irreligious there is not significant discord over religion.
  • General population's view on atheism: Generally positive or neutral; decently widespread
  • General population's view on abortion: Neutral; the practice is legal if overseen directly by a doctor, given certain other restrictions.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Generally accepted, though this could be significantly affected by historical ties to Narozalica and Chervolesia as well as conflicts such as the War of the Triple Alliance.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: None that I can think of ATM, but this could change.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration to and from Yavorstrana is kept relatively free, and it is likely that an increasing number of young Yavorstranans are leaving the country for better prospects unless/until the economic situation improves.
  • Women's Rights: Generally emancipated, though many traditional roles are still expected by certain elements of the populace.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco is one of the most widely used products in Yavorstrana, though its consumption is steadily dropping. Alcohol is relatively freely regulated, as is marijuana. “Harder” drugs are stringently regulated.

National information
Official Name: Republic of Imagua and the Assimas
Shortened Name: Imagua
Requested Location: In purple
Requested Population: Around 1.3 million
Culture: Due to its history as being a plaything for many Euclean powers and Asterian powers, the culture of Imagua would be greatly affected by all of them. Thus, while I'll be taking cues from RL Caribbean culture, I will have to add in all the influences from the other nations that have came to Imagua's shores.
  • Ethnicity: I am thinking that it will be 60% Bahian-Imaguan, 30% Eucleo-Imaguan, and 10% belonging to other groups, mostly immigrants from Coius with a small smattering of remaining indigenous peoples.
  • Religion: By far the most dominant religion would be Sotirianity. However, the most dominant sects would be the Solarian Catholics, the Low Estmerians, the High Estmerians, Epismialists, and Eldmarkian Amendists.
  • Languages: The official languages are Estmerish and Etrurian, but the most dominant language (albeit unrecognized) on the islands is Imaguan Creole, which developed over the centuries of being colonized by all sorts of powers.
Government Type: Parliamentary republic
Head of State: President Edmondo Privitera
Head of Government: Prime Minister Douglas Egnell
Requested GDP Per Capita: $16,243 nominally, $32,684 with PPP
National Overview: Imagua and the Assimas would have been inhabited by indigenous Asterian peoples, with the Arawakians being the ones residing in what is now Imagua and the Assimas when Caldia discovered and subsequently settled the islands. Caldian rule lasted from 1503 to 1560 when Ordennya nabbed it and attached it to Eldmark. After centuries of bouncing back and forth between local powers, by the 19th century, it ended up being in the hands of Etruria and Estmere. Following the Solarian War, the Assimas were attached to Imagua, and the whole archipelago was given independence. Since independence, there has been tension between the Estmerish-speakers on Imagua, and the Etrurian-speaking islanders on the Assimas, which have shaped how Imagua operates as a country. Ideologically, the Imaguans are seen as more conservative, except in the capital city of Cuanstad, which is seen as the most liberal part of the country. (A brief summary of your nation's general history, political ideology, and society.)
Military Overview: Imagua and the Assimas lacks a military. However, its defensive roles are fulfilled by the Imaguan Constabulary, which serves as the national police force of the islands, and comprises of around 12,000 people.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: On the Assimas and in the city of Cuanstad, many people support LGBT rights, and want to see same-sex marriage legalized. On the rest of Imagua, many oppose same-sex marriage and want to restrict LGBT rights.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Imaguans will generally be slightly on religions that are not part of the Sotirian fold, if only because there are not a lot of people who do follow non-Sotirian religions.
  • General population's view on atheism: In Imagua, outside of Cuanstad, atheism is looked down upon, and seen as less moral. In the Assimas and in Cuanstad, atheism is somewhat tolerated.
  • General population's view on abortion: It varies by islands: in the Assimas, abortion is seen as somewhat acceptable, with a slight majority supporting on-demand abortion. In Imagua, on the other hand, outside of Cuanstad, which has similar attitudes to the Assimas, they feel abortion is not acceptable unless it threatens the health of the mother, or if it was due to rape.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): In general, the Eucleo-Imaguans and the Bahian-Imaguans would, regardless of language, be a bit untrustworthy of those of other races, especially if they were, in general, recent arrivals to the islands.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: The big prejudices in the nation would likely be Estmerish-speakers seeing Etrurian-speakers as being a bunch of rural yokels who want special rights when they should be assimilated into the Estmerish identity, while the
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration to Imagua is complicated: immigrants from Asterias, especially from say, Marirana, would generally be looked down upon as trying to steal "our jobs" and what not. However, if they come from Euclea, or from richer Asterian countries, then they generally accept the immigration, especially if they head to the smaller communities.
  • Women's Rights: Despite some differences between the city of Cuanstad, and the Assimas Islands, especially regarding abortion, most feel that women's rights have been achieved.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Alcohol and tobacco are socially acceptable, while cannabis, while gaining some acceptance, especially in the Assimas and in Cuanstad, is not acceptable. Hard drugs, like meth, cocaine, and what else, are looked down upon by virtually all the population.
