The Merona Republic, commonly known as just Merona, is a republic consisting of 4 main islands. With a population of just over 2.3 million people, Merona traces its roots back to the Kingdom of Cartier, which now today is the modern State of Cartier in The United States of Ibica. The kingdom of Cartier established the Colony of Merona in 1231, on uninhabited but bountiful islands it found 1,500 miles Northeast of their shores. In 1305 however, Cartier was invaded, and fell to the Kingdom of Albion (now the Ibican states of Albion, Petra, and Romane). During the Invasion, the Cartier Royal Family fled to their colony, and established the Kingdom of Merona, which they ruled over until 1734. Following the Republication of Ibica, and a series of scandals involving the Royal Family, the Constitution of 1734 was Adopted by the Merona Assembly, stripping the royal family of their authority and titles, and officially establishing the modern Merona Republic.
Today Merona is a thriving democracy, with a major tourism industry, centered on the island of Saint Thomas, and a major financial center the nation's capital of Iberville. The Current President is Conservative Lee Wilkinson, and the Secretary of State is Côme Jordan. All embassies will be located in Iberville, with consulates allowed in the following cities:
- Norfolk
The second largest city in the country, and Bordeaux County, Norfolk has a population of 215,000, and home to the nations largest port. Norfolk is on the same island as the capital Iberville, and therefore is also home to many government agencies. - Lordes
The capital and largest city of Jordan County, Lordes is home to 173,000. Lordes was established in 1245, and is one of the oldest cities in the nation, popular for its colonial era downtown. - Saint Thomas
The capital and largest city in Saint Thomas County, the City of Saint Thomas was established as a colonial port in 1255, and today is the center of the Merona Tourism industry, with large swathes of the island set aside as national parks and nature reserves. Saint Thomas International Airport, is also one of only two airports in the nation served by international flights - Lewisham
Home to only 15,000 people, Lewisham is the smallest County Capital in the country. Dominique County, with of which Lewisham is the seat, is only home to a total of 32,000 people and is the least developed island in the country, with the county only being official organized in 1923, when the discovery of oil on the island led to it finally breaking a population of 5,000. The island is only served by four flights a day from Iberville, and a car and passenger ferry between the town of Concord on Dominique, and Silverton on Saint Thomas
