The evidence is the fact that Germany mid war, when fighting for their life, thought it was a big enough issue to necessitate a redesign of the safety mechanism on the MP40. And not just on new units either. They thought it important enough to order a refit on all the units in the field. An effort so great that they newer managed to acomplish it!
