Throughout all of Wallenbergia, it is legal to purchase, and consume alcohol starting at the age of 19, which also happens to be the age when all citizens start their military conscription. Before the age of 19, consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden, and punishable with house arrest, and/or time in prison. The sale of alcohol to citizens under the age of 19 is punishable with a minimum of 5 years in prison.
Driving while intoxicated is punishable with no less than 2 years in prison, if by some luck you managed to damage nothing, while if you took a life while driving intoxicated, that is an automatic death sentence.
Consumption of alcohol while pregnant is also, strictly forbidden. Pregnant women who have been found to be drinking are in almost all cases put under watch in a local hospital, and kept there until the baby has been born.

The drinking age is 16, as is the age for everything else. 16 year olds are legally adults, can vote, etc., so why not let them drink?

And there are no alcohol laws banning it, or sin taxes on the stuff, and it's free to make and distribute as you like. If you want to be patriotic while drunk, put some green food coloring in White Lightning and call it Lime-Green Lightning (or Greene Lightning if you support the current President).

Cheers!

Let me clarify what I think Swilatia means.

The United States for example has a national drinking age of 21. That is prohibition on alcohol to people under 21. Yet all across the nation in just about every college campus, and even most high school parties, there are drunk kids everywhere. Prohibition doesn't work.

No laws. You can drink at meals once your parents give you permission. That is usually around ages 9 to 12. It is custom, not law that governs this issue.

Smoking, on the other hand....you had damn well better be 18.

Drinking under the age of 21 is strictly forbidden. Parents caught supplying their own children with alcohol risk having their children taken into convent orphanages. Anyone caught buying alcohol for a child that isn't a member of their family is heavily fined (10x the cost of the alcohol that was bought traditionally). Teenage drinkers that are caught are forced to attend Rehabilitation Classes to understand the damage that alcohol does to people. Alcoholism is shunned but not a lot is done to prevent it when the person is at the age to drink. Until the drunk starts causing trouble, little is done about actual alcoholism though classes and detox services are available.

I was clarifying Swilatia's "Prohibition doesn't work statement".

As far as us, we do not believe that the government has any right to dictate what people may or may not do, or at what age. Parents are encouraged to teach their kids about the dangers of alcohol. As a general rule (but no such laws exist) private establishments will not sell to anyone under the age of 15 unless they are accompanied by an adult.

Alcohol laws also work - it reduces underage drinking... imagine if people could drink inside schools, how many more people would drink underage?

They don't seem to be reducing underage drinking in the US. In fact it has gone up since the laws have been enacted.

Lack of laws has nothing to do with schools. Schools set their own rules. There are no schools that allow drinking on campus in Sibirsky.

We don’t think there should be any formal age restriction for any drug including alcohol, there should however be education, so that young people are aware of the consequences of their actions.... This we believe will cut down on the abuse of all substances, including alcohol....

The official drinking age is 16. Underage drinking will result in a ticket and fine.

Being obnoxious and drunk in public will result in a 24-hour "sober-up" time at the local police station and a fine.

The legal limit for operating a vehicle is .05. Getting caught drinking and driving/drunk while driving holds very serious punishments. While people are encouraged to choose a designated driver, the police are happy to give drunk people rides home at no charge, so in addition to the harsh punishment, drunk driving is fairly rare.

The drinking age in Patoran is 25. Underage consumers rarely get more than a slap on the wrist, but stores that are lax about ensuring that they don't sell to underage persons are subject to severe fines.

For people 25 and older, alcohol consumption is not heavily regulated, though drunk driving is punished with a minimum five-year suspension of one's driver's license on the first offense, and a permanent suspension on the second. We don't care (much) if drunk persons ride our public transportation, but we don't want them driving.
