NationStates was always better than the sequel but its still sad to see it go that way.

Although I was never too keen on NS2 since we had to pay money for things as simple as custom flags. The war feature sucked, btw.

Meh. I wanted to try it, but you know, for some reason they couldn't get my main nation up and going on there. After repeated attempts. And then I get an email stating the nation had died?

Jebus, what nation? I couldn't even log on!

Not surprised, very disappointed in how absolutely unprofessional and bastardly Jolt/OMAC have been, and hope they eventually get what's coming to 'em. Karma is a bitch.

And I'm not talking Karmabaijan. Whom we still wubs. Even if he is too damned busy being a rocket scientist to play. :P

The amount of hostility or at least exasperation I'm seeing from folks is kinda surprising. I don't know why; it was pretty clear from the start that NS2 sucked hardcore, but I guess I started to get the idea that only the NS1 staff was really cultivating a seething hatred for Jolt/OMAC. Kinda nice seeing the mods and players pretty much 100% on the same page here!

I think that also set off Daistallia and led to his difficulties logging in after some of his ranting.

Ugh. Their advertising slots were horrid.

I always liked NS1 better anyways because since NS2 told you certain things about your economy and the like, and even wanted to make war a gameplay feature, freeform roleplay was severely limited.

When you publish a book, normally, you transfer all the rights to the publisher.

Um...no, you don't. You only do that if you write it as a work for hire. (sorry if this was already addressed; I haven't caught up with the whole thread yet.)

EDIT: Oh, and I never played NS2. I have a prejudice against spin-offs on the grounds that they almost always suck, so I didn't even look at it. But I got disgusted with Jolt/OMAC because of their ads. I am very happy to have this forum. I only still go to Jolt at all to keep an eye on a few posters/friends who haven't given up on it yet.

The main downer for NS2 was having to pay for everything. The others were that the trade, alliance, and war systems were garbage.

P.S. I like NS1 better.

Oh man, I let Jolt have it (politely, at the time) about the flag thing. How does it make good competitive business sense to make a game- a sequel no less, and expect people to pay $5 a month for the privilege of something that many few as a big part of customizing their nation, that they get for free on the original?

I mean, maybe paying ONCE to change the flag to a custom and then you have it forever unless you pay $5 to change it again... but seriously, what were they thinking?

Truthfully, I hate Jolt. And I would push Max Berry to pursue legal action.

They used the name of HIS GAME to push us into "Utopia Kingdoms".

BURN THEIR SERVERS! BREAK THEIR RAM! HUZZAH MAX BERRY! HUZZAH NS1!

Lol.

Or having to pay for the privilege of sending mass TGs to folks in your alliances...

*facepalm*

To be blunt ... NS2 sucked!

I'm sorry, but a more obvious money grab from loyal NS players could not have been fabricated. NS is supposed to be community based. To date, I have yet to see evidence that they even considered this though I fully admit I only ever graced the site once in the beginning and then never returned.

To possess the right to wear my own flag all I had to do was pay $5 every 30 days? How generous. $60 a year for the right to do what I can do here for free? If I wanted to move I needed to buy a passport? Talk about exploiting the known behaviors of players. There wasn't even an RMB or search engine which is a must in my opinion. Site navigation was horrible.

And this entire "World" thing? .... "Oh, there's no room in this World ... or in that one ...." - What?!!!!

Don't want adverts all over the place? ... $5 please ... per month.

NS is an original and I'd be more willing to Jones for a while as additions and improvements were made to the original than to contemplate the thought of splitting a good idea in half. NS1 activity fell dramatically during this entire episode and it would be refreshing to see it restored to where it rightfully belongs. I should also think that one would never require a repeat performance of this calamitous event. NS is NS ... period.

NS2 turned me off, partly having to pay for a flag once a month, that was quite annoying. Sequels are almost never better then the original, case in point.

I always had my doubts about NS2, sad to see them proved.

The charging to use a custom flag, to send mass telegrams and write a good national history all seemed to prove the point NS2 was just a bolt-on cheapy cash in.

The technical flaws, the world turns not updating, issues being frozen, problems not being fixed for days after NS2 players (as Beta testers) would raise concerns, and then these problems would happen again!

NS2 also could not handle too many people on it's servers.

Oh, and that NS2 Youtube competition, after much a-heralding, died horribly and quietly.

I feel sorry for all those who took part in that competition.

Seemingly a waste of time.

I also feel sorry for those, who despite playing such a shoddy game, persevered and created great communities in some of the worlds, really great people.

All now going to dust.

I can't see NS2 coming back. If it does it will come back precisely the same. People will be fobbed off for several months before being told that the technical issues could not be overcome and thanking everyone for their time as Beta testers.

NS2 was briefly interesting and the Jolt forums always sucked. I have maintained my NS2 nation because I'm just like that, but when it dies I shall not be unhappy in the slightest.

My only concern is that this may be another step drawing us closer to seeing the Jolt NS Forum vanishing/being wiped, which is a worry.

It was one of several things. The "review" was the straw that broke the camel's back.

All the nations from Asia I've come across in NS2 are still in Asia, and still playing NS. There was talk when NS2 launched of Asia uprooting and moving to NS2.

Glad that didn't happen.

Yeah. That was part of what really turned me off. Avatars are free on 90% of forums. A flag on a nation is not costing any big bucks to host, and even if it does, one can simply do the hotlink method most forums do if that's so bad. Instead, Jolt went 'there's a mild chance of making money! Cash Cow time!'

I'm just happy to see I wasn't alone. For a while I worried everyone might leave NS1 for that mess. O_o

Yeah, I played NS2 for awhile, until I ran out of money to keep my custom flag, lol...

If I had known sooner how Jolt was was leaving Max Berry Jilted (Maybe the new term used by sleazy game developers should be - "Yeah, we really Jolted him."), I would not have been giving them $5 a month. And for what? I don't need to go down that road as most of you have tried to play...

Yeah, I paid the money. And actually I paid happily, thinking I had NS1 for free for so long, I felt Max Berry deserved my money. I did not know he was being Jolted.

That's why we've been recommending players make backups of anything they can't afford to lose; the Jolt forum has a handy Archive function so you can download and save a nice little HTML backup of the threads you want to keep. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing!
