Rules of Engagement
TET, or The Eternal Thread, is the singular chat thread allowed in NS General (NSG). There's a long and sordid history with chat threads in this forum, mostly centering on us (Moderation) coming down heavily on people posting them. With that said, it's good for players to be able to have a space to just chill out and talk with each other. As such, TET exists. Because of the laxer topic rules associated with this being a chat thread, this OP serves to be a reminder of the One Stop Rules Shop, because everything contained in the OSRS applies here at all times.
A couple of footstomps on the rules, however:
- Do not spam. To quote from the One Stop Rules Shop, spam is "making a post that doesn't have any sort of use." Of specific note when talking about spam, large images are spam if left un-spoilered. This means that if you want to post a GIF, or some other kind of reaction image, it either needs to be spoilered, or you need to make sure it is small. Also in line with spam, garish posting: Don't do it.
- You must post in the English language. Posts containing a translation in addition to their foreign language content are not acceptable, the post must be entirely in English. The only threads where non-English posting is permitted are the language-specific threads in this board.
- Keep it family friendly. Double entendres and the like are mostly acceptable, but please be mindful. Additionally, *snuggle* *hug* play is the line. Do not go past that. Do not make us enforce this line, it is one of the largest reasons why chat threads historically have been shut down.
- TET is not your blog. Sharing life updates occasionally: fine. Making TET all about you every time you come in here: not.
- TET is not a roleplay thread. TET is for out of character posting only, or for those not familiar with the terminology, posting as you, the human behind the screen. Those of you interested in roleplaying a character may find yourself at home in the Crispy Critter Bar and Grill, conveniently located in Forum 7.
For those asking about How To Self-Moderate:
- Ask or remind politely if spamming or inappropriate posting takes place.
- If it isn't egregious, let it go.
- If it is, and the polite request/reminder goes ignored, report it in Moderation.
- Do not hijack the entire thread by getting into a prolonged argument over it.
- Remember that the rules of the thread are really no different from the rest of the forums, save TET is intended as a chat thread, and thus, the ideas of 'spamming' and such are somewhat relaxed. Don't be overly-uptight when attempting to help keep things clean.
- No one is to consider themselves the security officers of TET - while we encourage and appreciate player participation in leading by example, and gently reminding others to keep things on track, the Moderators are the 'arbiters of thread justice' and players have no authority, perceived or otherwise outside their OP rights in the RP forums.
- Be excellent to one another. A reminder of the need for better behavior ought to be delivered with this in mind, and with the end goal of keeping the thread clean, and fun for all. Not to impose opinions or preferences on your fellow posters. Remind as you would like to be reminded, keep it civil.
- Leave the drama, divisiveness, cliques, accusations, and assorted nastiness at the door. Don't track it in all over our nice clean thread. The continuance of the thread is up to you, the players, to maintain. Let's keep the fun uninterrupted by keeping things pleasant.
