There's interdimensional sand worms around here that hop from dimension to dimension, they carry some interesting stuff that gets stuck on them.
One time I found a taco truck, I never knew such a taste existed till then. There's been a few more"
"As I'm sure you know, the people in charge generally want to protect you and keep you healthy as well as they can. But a well-run colony should have accommodations for adventurous people like you."
Ovesa wrote:As the conversation about sand worms came to a close, Galena smiled. "Alright, then. Guess we should head over to the lounge."
The three of them got up from their table in the main room, and made their way to the lounge. The open chatter and lively music of the main room became more subdued, as they entered the quieter, dimly lit lounge. There were quite a few tables here (most of them empty), with a handful of patrons playing billiards. Two of the blackjack tables were full, with each person eyeing their fellow players cautiously; this was clearly a high stakes game.
At the head of the main poker table, there was a man shuffling cards. He was a burly, middle-aged man, with sand-colored hair and a mustache to match. When he looked up from his work, he immediately recognized one of the patrons. "Galena?"
It took her a second to put the pieces together; suddenly, it clicked. "Mister Wiltshire?"
"By Jove, it really is you!" Mister Wiltshire's accent was somewhere between mid-Atlantic and BBC narrator. "It's been so long! What are you doing here?"
"Y'know, just exploring the multiverse. I certainly wasn't expecting to see you here."
"Well, hunting expeditions are never cheap, especially when crossing dimensions." He said, almost sheepishly. "One must be willing to make sacrifices to pursue what they love. But if you're looking for stories of adventure and thrill, I've plenty to share with you and your friends."
She got onto one of the stools surrounding the poker table. "That's great, Wiltshire." She pulled out a small bag of gold coins from her satchel, before placing it onto the table. "Sorry I couldn't get these exchanged. Hope there isn't any trouble."
"That's not a problem at all. This is probably one of the more regular exchanges I've had..." As he said this, he opened a drawer concealed underneath the table. Inside, there were currencies of all types; coins, bills, credits, all in varying sizes and colors. There was also some jewelry, pearls, booklets, a bobble head, glass figurines, a glowing eye in a jar, and other strange knick knacks. After closing it, he gave her thirty-five dollars worth of chips; ten one-dollars chips (white), three five-dollar chips (red), and one ten-dollar chip (blue). "As a matter of fact, someone tried exchanging a goat for chips two days ago."
Galena raised an eyebrow in disbelief. "You're kidding."
"I am completely serious."
"Well, did you accept it?"
"...yes. It was a young female Nubian goat, worth over 500 dollars. I gave them 350 dollars worth of chips. She's out in the Livery, if you want to see her."
"Sweet!" Her eyes lit up with excitement. "Guess I'll have to go meet her later."

Ovesa wrote:The Cosmic Mainframe wrote:F244 then followed Galena into the lounge and sat at the poker table. He quietly observed the conversation between Galena and Mister Wilkshire. As they spoke, F244 reached into his backpack and pulled out a blue-tinted anti-static bag, which contained a square circuit board, 2.5 centimeters on each side, with a smaller metal square covering most of its surface.
"Might I add to the pool? This is 108-qubit quantum processor, manufactured by an organization on Aechorius."
Mister Wiltshire's eyes widened. "Huh. Well, I must say, I haven't seen one of these in ages." He carefully lifted the circuit board from the bag, examining its intricasies with a hand-held magnifying glass. "108-qubit, you say? Color me impressed."
He reached for another, notably smaller drawer under the table. It was practically a mini-filing cabinet, filled with carefully protected circuit boards and other thin, small electronics. He slid the board into a protective sleeve, before carefully sliding it in between two other protected boards.
After closing that drawer, he took out sixty five dollar's worth of chips; fifteen one's (white), six fives (red), and two tens (blue). He then turned to the raider. "Would you care to join us, sir?"

He pulled what seemed to be as sphere, it was rather rigid at the left side.
"It's ruby I believe. It was a glass eye until it fell into my pockets. I believe it would go well with the eye you already own."

"It's ruby I believe. It was a glass eye until it fell into my pockets. I believe it would go well with the eye you already own."
Bewildered, Wiltshire carefully picked up the glass eye, examining the inclusions within the ruby iris. "By Jove, in all my years, I've never seen anything like this..."
He brought out a different magnifying glass, one with a dark handle and much greater magnification. "A cabochoned ruby, with a carefully molded gold-foil backing. How remarkable! I haven't seen the gold-foil technique since that trip to the Anglo-Saxon historical sight..."
Galena was equally impressed and intimidated. She hadn't expected anyone to bring such a high value item to the table. Should she exchange another item for more chips? Or would it be wiser to play with such a low amount?
Mr. Wiltshire continued his routine. "Normally, I'd give a lower offer, but since I happen to know someone interested in buying such an unusual item. For this I'd give.....185 dollar's worth of chips."
He then turned to the other two players. "If you wish to exchange any more items for chips, I would be more than happy to do so."
