895: the Violetian economy is in shambles after the onset of the Worst Depression. Gruhad II, who succeeded his father some years ago, has been working to repair the once-thriving economy of the nation, with mixed results. The large cession of land to the Moles badly wounded the Violetian agricultural base - thousands of acres of farmland was taken from them. However, there were some upsides: from the technology trade-offs some years prior, Violetia has learned how to build their own drill machines. With them, they have begun expansion into their own underground, with a small city being formed from their man-made caverns - the underground fortress of Violet's Bastion.

The Dracinian Empire has also used this new drilling technology to their advantage. While the Magnificent Wall was a feat in itself, it almost paled in comparison to its newest project - the Imperial Underway. It's said that thousands of laborers died to complete the Underway, a sprawling tunnel and road network that connected all of Dracinia's major cities and forts. With the Underway, Imperial troops, civilians, and royals could move quickly, and in secret, to any city in the Empire.

893: after 17 years of Mole occupation, the citizens of the oddly-named Molar Violetia decide that enough is enough. Pro-Violetian rebels attempt to secede from the Mole Empire, but are stopped by the Moles' superior tactics and technology. The Moles view this failed revolution as Violetia's doing (which, schokingly, it was not), and the region is plunged into the Second Mole War.

894 BC: The Mole Empire rounds up all citizens of Violetian descent, and kills them en masse by means of fire.

Almost ironically, however, Iknatus died in 875 of a heart attack, the multiple attempts on his life having put considerable stress on his body. His son, Iknatus IV, succeeds him, with his wife on the throne as regent.
