Marinos continued sitting in his seat by his fellow AFC friends. He looked around, seeing if anybody would take a dash to the speaker's chair, otherwise, he continued twiddling his thumbs and thought about stealing that sweet sweet pizza again.

Lilika was shocked by the sudden turn of events in the chamber. She'd never even considered herself a viable candidate for the position, but there was already cross-party support for her to run. She stood slowly, and said "I graciously accept the nomination."

Senator Gianopoulos walks by the closet, knocking two times.

"You know, you might find it better to not do it in the closet closest to the chamber. May I suggest choosing a better location?" he said, reminiscing of the times he did something similar with his wife back in his youth.

Niccolo Fallaci looks around and hesitantly walks up to the chair. "Order. After 24 hours of nominations with only the Honorable Seantor Lilika Samaras nominated, Senator Samaras is declared Speaker of this Senate." He hands Lilika the gavel and congratulates her before sitting back down.

Though very irregular by the protocol of most nations' legislative chambers, Galatea had no protocol of it's own to fall back on, so resistance to the move of Senator Fallici was unlikely. Lilika cautiously walked to the Speaker's position, taking the gavel from Fallici and thanking him for his support and congratulations. She sat down and apprehensively rapped the desk with the gavel and said "This chamber will come to order. I open the floor to members wishing to submit a maiden speech, for a period of twenty-four hours."

Senator Michelakos stands up, adjusting the buttons of her skirtsuit and bringing up her A4 sheet of paper.
"Good evening, and congratulations to Madame Speaker on her election. There are a lot of other individuals in this Chamber, so I'll keep it short and sweet. Today, we enter a new age in this nation. We enter an age of democracy, an age of progress, and an age of prosperity. I truly believe that this age will be a golden one. The establishment of democracy has been no small feat, but through it we are discovering all the new possibilities that it brings. And we mustn't squander the opportunity that we've fought for. I believe that the only way anything will be able to get done in the future in this country will be through and open dialogue, between party lines, between Senators, between citizens, between everybody. My fellow Senators, I urge us all to govern with respect, with dignity, and with honour. We are extremely fortunate."
Senator Michelakos sits back down, finishing her short speech.

"Madam Speaker, Good morning."

The whole room was in suspense as they awaited the next line of the senator's speech. The man, however, had other ideas and sat down.

"Madam Speaker, good evening. I would first like to say that I apologize if my conduct was out of order; it seems like an irrational waste of time to hold an election for an unopposed candidate.

"I rise today to declare that on this new day for Galatea, we are at a turning point and a crossroads. We must act quickly to establish a strong, parliamentary republic. We have a choice in the multiple Government Establishment Acts. We can choose the inefficient presidential system where nothing gets done and there is an excessively powerful executive; or a fair, democratic parliamentary system where the elected legislature is in control. Presidential systems can fall to gridlock, with the executive and legislature at odds; and it is much easier for a tyrannical despot to grab power. In a parliamentary system, the executive depends on the parliament, meaning bills actually get passed and a fascist coup is almost unfathomable. Some may say that presidential systems are more democratic. This is not true. Presidential systems lead to lengthy national campaigns focused on two people. Parliamentary systems encourage real debate on policy, as the public doesn't just vote on one person to lead the country.

"Madam Speaker, we need to get this done so we as a nation can move on to establishing laws and policies in Galatea. So we can advance liberal reforms like improving civil liberties and economic opportunity. The FDP will support these reforms, but they cannot be done without a functioning government.

"Madam Speaker, My Honorable Colleagues, now is the time to act. Now is the time to choose a Government Establishment Act that establishes a fair, efficient parliamentary system.

"I once again congratulate all Senators on their elections. Thank you, Madam Speaker."
