"And they're right to be ashamed. That sounds like a form of slavery, and the fact that they disguised this as a legitimate economic system makes it worse, showed that these robber barons knew that what they were doing was wrong, but did it anyway. It's a repeating process, really. So many countries feel the need to, if they have the decency to at least abolish slavery, have something similar to a caste system, a group of poor to do the heavy lifting. But if the nation doesn't change, it doesn't last. People don't like being treated like that, they get angry! And that's why it's so great that these policies were abolished - nobody can change the fact that they inherited a dark past, but the fact that enough people could stand up for what was right means that there's hope for your nation indeed." ~President Abraham Azuz.

The Chisos Federation is known for many things - their cities dug in among the walls of mountains and canyons of Big Bend National Park, the independent, pioneering spirit of those desert frontier towns, our reliance on the Rio Grande - but one of the biggest things we're known for throughout the wasteland is their food. The Federation, some caravaneers will say, is pretty much just one big restaurant. They aren't rich - the nation contains a good deal of lifeless desert (literally lifeless, the world's still recovering from nuclear war), but the spirit of making the most of what one's got shows itself most in Chisos cuisine cuisine. By any count of things, they should have a bland diet of cows and cows and cows and cows, but somehow, they maintain variety in their cooking. Every type of fruit that still grows, every species of animal that isn't bulletproof, they're used to spice up the food, whether it be little sandwiches, rolls, salads, pies, or tortillas.

Ehh, sounds like a good food for a world, in which they live in. I mean, supplies kinda are expected to be scarce.

''Good vs evil'' trope rarely appears in SC's literature and movies (Especially newer ones), as often both protagonist, and antagonist are morally grey. In fact, ''evil vs evil'' trope is more common, and main hero sometimes is even portrayed as ''no better than villain''. There are also often ''third factions'', which can align with either villain or hero, but still pursue their own gains, and can betray both as well. Despite that, there is still often a side in SC's literature, which is lighter than the other, and makes people root for it. In fact, bad endings/tragic endings aren't that uncommon in SC's stories as well, where villain wins. (Still, even then, a lot of those stories end in pyrrhic victory for the villain, as often their victory is either meaningless, or they can't maintain their new power) Stories are usually told from the point of view of both sides, and lots of violence isn't uncommon, even for books, which in SC are classified as ''child books''. Some SC's book and movie reviewers praise the ''unique approach to stories'', while some even criticize it for being ''subliminal attempts of government to justify its actions in past and present, and perhaps even future''.

"Good and Evil are foreign concepts to the Republic. If you live long enough maybe a few thousand years maybe a few months, you find that long lasting actions can't be measured by black and white or even in grey. The best one can do is measure who benefitted from the action, and who did not."

"There is a special form of psychic and spiritual modification that is offered to any willing member of the military. The modifications come with the proviso that they are permanent. Although most modifications that are tied to the soul are usually permanent in the first place, with the proper amount of will a few of them can at least be lessened to an extent.

However, the modifications that are further offered are permanent regardless of how strong a mortal's will is.

Said Modification places a kill switch within the back of one's mind and soul. All a recipient of this modification will need to do to utilize this kill switch is to say a code word with the level of sincerity and conviction that will be necessary to activate it.

This kill switch will upon activation "kill" all of a recipients emotions. They will not be capable of processing fear, pain or empathy, they will not be capable of questioning orders or otherwise. Their bodies will become capable of physical feats that they would psychologically have been incapable of committing (even though some of the said feats are fully possible with the mandatory genetic and cybernetic modifications).

When one takes this process and activates it they become known as a "Zombie".

At first, the kill switch's effects are temporary, but after consistent use... its effects begin to drip into a person's regular life, and eventually, a person becomes eligible for the Zombie Division, and all recording of there existence will cease there.

They will become the Republics frontline soldiers. They will be the nameless heroes of propaganda throwing themselves into conflict after conflict never backing away from their duty, of course, the truth of the matter will never reach the public ear."

This is horrible, and in no way efficient. A drone-like force is what this is, and drone-like thinking can never adapt to changing tides of the world

The State Capital of San Miguel is named after the Saint Miguel Rodrigo Valdez. In the 1600s when Borgovia was a Spanish realm, the central parts of Borgovia (IRL Inland Argentina) is ripe for agriculture and the Catholic church sought to create a Mission there.

Saint Valdez encountered the natives, who are pretty much stone-age in terms of development compared to the former Incan Empire further West. Saint Miguel taught them agriculture, literature, and was said to create their own written language. He loved them like a family and became very close to them, converting them to Catholicism and unlike other European powers, does not actively oppress them. However, since Saint Miguel is from Leon, Spain, he brought diseases unknowingly to the people. He wasn't aware that he and the Church, are living bio weapons to these tribes. Upon the death of most of the elders, Saint Miguel felt obligated to adopt the orphans and raise them as his own beloved children. It's even said he treated these indigenous children much better than fellow Church members! The children loved him like a father and he tries his best to take care of his fallen friend's prodigy, hoping they'd live a prosperous future in the land rich in soil and ripe for meat production, wine making, and brick making. It almost felt like Saint Miguel's sorrows of losing his friends is over and is given the prosperity of loving children and rich land.

The children soon became sick, and died out as well. Saint Miguel went as far as mixing goat blood to keep the blood-made Cross marked on every door in the Mission protective of the remaining children he treated like his own children. It didn't work, he resorted desperately to finding medicine, his knees would be blistered from kneeling and praying, and he'd be heard crying every night. His last child died, and what's left of the unnamed tribe is lost forever. Father Miguel felt he had committed some sort of sin that led to the loss of his friends, and the loss of the children he adopted. He's not sure what he did to make God so wrathful that he'd kill off the people he love, and that ate him away until one day, he just disappeared, believed to have probably committed suicide. The night before his disappearance, he was heard by a nun praying to God to damn his soul for eternity for whatever grave sin he may have caused in God's eye, but begged God to at least spare the children and the parents he killed for earning God's wrath. He's also reported to cry and pray for the Natives that died every night.

Father Miguel disappeared without a trace believing God killed the indigenous tribes and their children for a grave sin Father Miguel may have made, hoping by having his soul damned to eternity, it can at least spare the unnamed tribe from damnation, as it's his fault they died. Truth is, it's just diseases the tribes aren't immune to. Today, in San Miguel, a statue of him can be seen. What started as a small mission became a living relic of Borgovian history as it expanded beyond the mission into the 742,000 person city it is today, still rich in soil, and despite being the smallest State Capital, is the central hub of food distribution across Borgovia. Some Catholics believed Father Miguel may have been behind the prosperity of this small city, caring for it as he cared for the natives. The City of San Miguel is known as "City of Roses" since Father Miguel loved roses, planted them across the Mission and now roses adorn the whole city. He even taught the Natives how to appreciate botany

Was once a ruthless capitalist Corporate State in South America (1800s - 1950s), but has since reformed into a Social Democratic, Federal, Parliamentary Republic whose politics is 90% of my irl views. We're Italo-Spanish-Chinese influenced and thus there's a lot of Chinese and Greco-Roman cultural references.

The world in this nation is changing for the better, current year is 2042.

He's an interesting figure; though not one I would necessarily want in the highest echelons of power.

Cascadia's marriages are largely utilitarian in nature. Due to the large breeding pool of drones, citizens are free to marry regardless of gender & orientation; and are simply taxed as a couple. In fact, a recent trend among Cascadian youth is to marry their best friend; maintaining a platonic coupling that exists outside of the concept of romance.

Wow, it's interesting to see marriages made not because of romance or any kind of actual love. *cough cough* arranged marriages *cough cough*

During the 1950s, an algae boom decimated fish populations across most of Devernia's seas. The solution was to dump tons of chlorine to the water. Today, the pH level of the bay adjacent to Gaerson (and the tap water) is higher than your usual levels.

I quite approve of that. I’m glad to see a state focus on education for once.
The Church of the Lorde is the Kingdom of Thedeny’s state church. It is the equivalent to Anglicanism in this world and is found primarily in Thedeny, overseas territories and dominions, and former colonial territories.

The faith is a mixture of Judeo-Christian beliefs and theology, and indigenous sun-worship. The equivalent to Jesus is called the spiritual embodiment of the sun and the Son of Heaven, and God is believed to be the sun itself - or at least within it. God is believed to only rule over the Eight Worlds, and other gods rule over worlds beyond.

The faithful are called “Belantines.”

Cool. Epic. Fantastic.

Lev Bronshtein is the current Vice Chairman of the Supranational Union of Socialist Republics. He was elected after the sudden and apparent assassination of former V.C. Louvell Anderson in 2061 with the support of his largest party critic - Chairwoman Song Liyuan (2060-????). Opponents of him and his policies have referred to him as a "left neocon" or "socialist Dick [Cheney]" for his constant support of growing the SUSR military industrial complex and has refused to conform to any type of reform in the SUSR's old and outdated policy in regards to SUSR-US foreign policy. He himself says that his policy are due in part by his socialist convictions to the Wessleyite definition of "permanent revolution".

As an (OOC) post-Soviet, whenever I hear or see 'Lev Bronshtein' I can only think of the historic madman-general. Then again, your character is an outright replica of him.

The main challenge of German interior policy in the 1930s was stabilizing the situation in disloyal new territories such as Luxemburg, the occupied parts of France and Belgium as well as the recent addition of the Cisleithanian crown lands minus Galicia and Czech-Bohemia. With disloyal intellectuals and the like, the regions were not easy to keep. The solution rested on concessions. Of course, the 1928 Constitution allowed all of the regions Reichstag and Bundesrat representation, but a more unique method used was 'Charters'. Basically, these were a series of laws passed by the German Reichstag that gave unique priveleges to certain German states: For instance, German-Slovenia and Luxemburg received the power to collect their own taxes without Federal interference or approval, while the occupied French territories were given 30-year exemption from military levies and relaxed business language regulations, among other things. This helped relieve tensions a lot; Even in the French-Belgian territories, where the language and culture were very different, civil life returned. As Communist revolution arrived to Western Europe and France and Belgium fell, the border territories calmed completely as their homelands were now lost to them.

Interesting history.

In the USN, we have 131 states. Our legislature is a bicameral Congress of 262 senators and 10,620 Representatives. Due to the size, they meet in 10 regional capitol buildings. While the regions themselves hold no governmental aspect aside from hosting regional capitals (10; about 1000 reps. per capital) and judicial circuits, the States might have many different levels of government themselves.
Then it's a lie. Everything Fox News says is a lie.

That's a smart approach to decentralization. Being nice also helps, so try that.

AN: also not a bad approach to decentralization, but it seems that those states have too much autonomy..I don't know, just my two cents.

Since Islam is a religion of peace where mercy is encouraged, Amenria has a "reconciliation period" after every war where citizens and soldiers alike spend time doing social activities like playing football, dining, or other peaceful things so our occupying forces don't have any grudges and don't resort to unnecessary brutality when handling the colonies.

Kids with beards? How? Is that some sort of genetic mutation unique to your population or something? Anyway, I personally lean toward the cleanly shaven side so beards are not my thing.

While the Achson Army prides itself for being technologically sophisticated, it is also known for holding its expert snipers, who it refers to as "crude but effective", in high regard.

Some of the first professional military snipers in the world came from the Achson Army, or more accurately, the band of soldiers that eventually became the Achson Army. When the Italic Empire began the One-Year War in 1761, James Anderson (later King James) was tasked, along with the 250 soldiers assigned to him, to conduct hit-and-run attacks on the advancing Italic legions, numbering ~65,000 at the beginning of the war, as the Teutonian and Albionish armies made their strategic withdrawal.

James armed some of his troops with the Gottfried Rifle, a muzzle-loading percussion rifle with an effective range of around 200 metres and the first ever firearm made in this world. Around a dozen of his men were experienced hunters before service in the military, so he trained these as skirmishers and sharpshooters using the new rifle. When the Italic troops marched or made camp, the camouflaged sharpshooters picked off exposed enemy soldiers, causing panic as cavalry and line infantry, usually led by James himself, attacked. James's group only made a mere 2,417 total kills at this stage of the conflict, the sharpshooters themselves contributing around 600-700, after losing 8 men. While this barely made a dent on the Italic army, it caused a looming fear of "Teutonian-speaking trees" in both the Italic commanders and ranks, detrimental enough to slow their advance as they hunted for what they called La Morte Silenziosa.

Today, every Achson Army infantry battalion has a dedicated 12-man (11 soldiers, 1 officer/NCO) sniper team, armed with a variant of the standard-issue N97M2 bolt-action rifle with telescopic sights, whose task is to scout ahead and/or pick off vulnerable enemy soldiers, along with a variety of non-standard roles. The Achson Army also has 14 active Hunter Battalions, or Jäger-Bataillonen, specialising in reconnaissance, camouflage, and ambush tactics. These snipers have fought wherever the Achson Army has went, bringing with them the legacy of the original sharpshooters.

That’s awesome, and I really like the story behind it all. I happily applaud.
The Kingdom of Thedeny remains somewhat of a colonial power, even in the modern age. It has many overseas territories, mainly islands. Taiwan, Seychelles, Ceylon and other islands are considered overseas territories and help maintain Thedish naval power and global power projection.
Thedeny also has two dominions: Aoateroa and New Thedeny (NZ & New England + Rust Belt) respectively.

That's quite extensive. I wonder how you manage to keep such distant territories under control.

The military of the Hegemony is funded and controlled almost entirely by the Senate, but receives most of its orders from the Hegemon themself.
