Not 2000, it's actually 2100 altogether (there are two houses, the Council of Representatives, which has 1600 MPs, and the Senate, with 500 Senators. :p

One MP in the Council of Representatives represents 300,000 people. Yes, that's a lot of people, but if one MP represented a number like 60,000, the number of MPs would be way bigger.
