Nikolaas "Nick" Haverkamp - Civic Union
Image

Account Name: Ainin
Occupation: Businessman, mayor

Party Position(s):
President of the Fortaleza Civic Union Association

Positions in Government:
Mayor of Fortaleza

Constituency: Fortaleza At-Large
Political Ideology: Market liberal, internationalist, pro-decentralisation

Family: Maria Haverkamp (39), Karl Haverkamp (12)
Background: Born in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1977 into a middle-class family, Nikolaas Haverkamp had a comfortable childhood that was uprooted at age 8, when a sudden change in his parents' fortunes forced him to move to a working-class neighbourhood of Amsterdam. His parents divorced the following year. Despite the difficulties, he excelled academically and helped manage a furniture that his father acquired with their savings, turning it around. At age 18, his father remarried to a Dutch-Fernese woman descended from Dutch East India Company merchants who had settled in Fernão in the 18th century, and he moved with his father to Fortaleza, where he attended the University of Fortaleza.

In school, he met his future wife Maria and took a job as a West Asia sales representative for the French transportation conglomerate Alstom. He was a member of the negotiation teams for many major rolling stock and infrastructure deals in the subregion. He resigned his position in 2012 to settle down in Fortaleza, where he was tapped to lead the city's largest bus operator out of administration. While on the job, he helped pro-democracy militants by clandestinely hosting them in bus depots located throughout the city.

In June 2017, he defeated Ulisses Seabra of the Phalanx and Red-Green Chetan Nagarkar with a 12% majority to become mayor of the Free City of Fortaleza.

Ana Ernst - Ma'abaran National Party

Account Name: Roosevetania
Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s):
Parliamentary Leader

Positions in Government:
Secretary of Community Affairs

Constituency: Korbat
Political Ideology: Ma'abaran Independence, Liberalism

Family: Benjamin Ernst (husband)
Background: Born, raised, educated, Ma'abara native, etc., etc. Nothing special.
Faith: Reformed Judaism

Likes: the MNP, cooperation, coffee with cream
Dislikes: fascism, Ma'abara being ignored and marginalized, political extremism, black coffee

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • Ernst: "Good afternoon. We cannot go on without acknowledging what has just happened. Senator Ritesh Bell was shot and killed by a fascist and white nationalist. I, along with the whole of the MNP, send my deepest condolences to Senator Bell's family and friends, and I condemn the Fernao Phalanx Movement. With their simple existence, the FPM makes people like Jimmie Baker feel more comfortable in Fernao and more comfortable acting out like he did. Ritesh Bell was killed because he was a fighter. He was a fighter for workers' rights. He was a fighter for LGBT+ rights. He was a fighter for women's rights. He was a fighter for the poor. He fought for the oppressed, the ones who are too often left out and left behind. People, Ritesh Bell was killed out of hate. You see today humanity in its worst form, and you see, plain and simple, why fascism is dangerous."

Reporter: "Ms. Ernst, congratulations on winning your seat. Could you outline for everyone watching the basic principles of the MNP?"

Ernst: "Yes. The MNP's broad goal is to fight injustice and oppression anywhere of any kind. More specifically, though, we have four main principles. One, Maabaran self-determination; two, a fair, democratic, and efficient government; three, a fair economy that works for everyone; and finally, social equality and the protection of civil liberties."

Reporter: "So the MNP could be classified as a center-left party?"

Ernst: "Yes, you could say that. The MNP is a liberal party."

Reporter: "Is that to say that the MNP won't side with the Civic Union?"

Ernst: "No, not at all. We will be able to work with both sides, similar to when the United Kingdom's Scottish National Party worked with the Conservative Party to plan the Scottish referendum."

Reporter: "And we heard you say earlier that you condemn the Fernao Phalanx Movement?"

Ernst: "Yes. The MNP is firmly opposed to fascism and the FPM. The FPM is dangerous for our democracy."

Reporter: "Will the MNP contest other elections in Maabara?"

Ernst: "Absolutely. In the upcoming elections, we plan to contest the Maabaran gubernatorial election and the Maabaran constituency election."

Reporter: "Speaking of the upcoming elections, who will the MNP support for president? Or will the MNP nominate its own candidate?"

Ernst: "I'm not going say who we will support at this time, it's too early to make promises like that."

Reporter: "Do you plan to appeal to any national audience whatsoever?"

Ernst: "We will only stand candidates in Maabara. Having said that, we welcome people from all over Fernao in the MNP. If you live anywhere in Fernao and you support the rights of the Maabaran people, I encourage you to vote for the MNP to help us gain more seats and have a stronger voice."

Reporter: "The MNP's logo is a roaring lion. What does it represent?"

Ernst: "The MNP lion represents strength and a fighting spirit of independence."

Reporter: "Maabara is two-thirds Jewish and one-fifth Muslim. Clearly, Islam is a sizable minority. The MNP is also much more popular among Jews than Muslims. How will the MNP represent both groups when there has been such conflict historically, and how will the MNP prevent both Islamophobia and Antisemitism?

Ernst: "Yes, you make a good point, and religious conflict is a problem we have faced in Maabara in the past. In the MNP, we are opposed to hate and bigotry of any kind. Any MNP official who promotes Antisemitism or Islamophobia will be disciplined and in extreme cases expelled. Also, the MNP is not a religious party. We seek to represent all Maabarans. Last question."

Reporter: "Why should Maabara be specially represented or even independent?"

Ernst: "Maabara is very different from the rest of Fernao. It is unique in that it is a Jewish-majority state, but we also have many Muslims. Maabara is largely ignored on the national stage, and it only has one constituency. We truly are a different people and an ignored people. We demand better."

Party Position(s):
Chairperson of the Fortalezan Red-Green Alliance

Positions in Government:
Fortalezan Councilor

Constituency: the streets
Political Ideology: Social Democracy, Internationalism, Egalitarianism

Family: Sanjana Nagarkar
Background:

Chetan Nagarkar was born in Fortaleza in 1988 into a working class family. At that time Chetan's father Rameshwar Nagarkar worked as a bus driver, and his mother Kumari Nagarkar worked in the local library service, and the family lived a rather comfortable life despite the difficulties posed by the regime. All of that changed in 1997 when Chetan's father was arrested and killed by the intelligence service after being accused of helping transport anti-government activists, as it became clear that the country was becoming increasingly unsafe Chetan was sent by his mother to live with nearby family in India.

Chetan remained in India through the formative years of his life, eventually meeting his wife while studying for a degree in Politics and International Affairs at a local university. All throughout this time, Chetan had not forgotten his connection to his homeland, and after being informed of the real circumstances of his fathers death he began to communicate with Shim Seo-Yeon, the outside voice of one of the many left-wing groups operating in the country.

In 2012 Chetan discreetly returned to Fernão and began to work with anti-government forces inside the capital including Nikolaas Haverkamp, who at the time ran one of the largest bus networks in the city.

In 2017 Chetan unsuccessfully ran to become Mayor of Fortaleza, but he continues to be Chair of the Red-Green contingent in the city council.

Angelina Maria Acosta - Civic Union

Account Name: Anere
Occupation: Senator

Party Position(s):
Member

Positions in Government:
N/A

Constituency: Not sure
Political Ideology: Liberal-Conservatism

Family: Daniel Fernandes, son
Background: Angelina Maria Acosta, known more regularly as Angelina Acosta, is a Civic Union Senator in Fernão. Angelina was originally high born, being the only child of a politician herself. Born and raised primarily in Lisbon, she enjoyed the high life of Portuguese culture. At age 17, Angelina left Portgual for Oxford, where she would meet her husband. Being the daughter of a rich man, Angelina was married early to Óscar Fernandes, the son of one of Lisbon's most prominent bankers. At first, the two lived happily together, Angelina describes those times as "one her happiest years." Her happiness would not last. At age 27, Angelina gave birth to Daniel Fernandes. A complication forced the doctors to seal her fallopian tubes, and later remove her ovaries in whole. Daniel, who was previously a happy and content man, took to alcohol and began to abuse Angelina.

Angelina was herself devastated. She left her job as a lawyer for a firm and took solely to raising Daniel. Meanwhile, her marriage was beginning to crumble as Óscar's verbal abuse was starting to take a physical turn. Nearly eleven years into their marriage, Óscar was charged with domestic abuse against Angelina. After Óscar was found guilty and the couple divorced, Angelina left their flat in London and took Daniel to Bordeaux in France. Angelina's political career began when she and ten year old Daniel returned to London, where Angelina would work as a consultant for women forced into arranged marriages. Women's advocacy took Angelina all over the world, from Pakistan to the United States. In 2002, she and fourteen year old Daniel would find a home in Fernão.

In Fernão, Angelina worked as a consultant for various politicians whilst working as a secret advocate for women and the democracy movement. Since then, Angelina has continued to fight for women's rights and has not been remarried. Her life as a domestic abuse victim has helped shape her political character.

Background: William was born a happy person, despite the fact that things were tough in his youth, and his mother, Claudette Walker (Formerly McCain, who was a politician before moving to Fernão), did not survive the birth of Jay Walker. That soon changed, however, when his family struck it wealthy in electronics - among the biggies were walkie-talkies, tasers, engines, and magnetism. He spent most of his teenage years learning, eating luxurious sweets, and being overall happy. Though his father, Milton Walker, wanted him to help the world by pursuing a life of electronics, he instead decided to join the government, to follow his mother's path and help "drain the swamp", and leave the electronics business to his younger brother, Jay Walker, while his older brother, Luke Walker, set out to investigate the wildlife and human culture of the deserts.

Null Bella

Account Name: Nulla Bellum
Occupation: Lead singer of the EDM / Punk band Lysenko's Harvest, Best-selling anti-communist author, right-wing talk radio host, self-defense / gun rights advocate, Senator

Party Position(s):
member of the Liberal Democrat Party of Fernão

Positions in Government:
Senator

Constituency:Western Sarkar (pending approval)
Political Ideology: right-libertarian free market capitalist minarchism, extreme anti-communism

Family: Marta (wife, killed onstage during a concert after Fernão's civil war by communist insurgents)
Background: The colorful polemicist Null Bella rose to fame as lead singer of the Fernão anti-communist punk / electronic dance music band Lysenko's Harvest, most notable for the fatwa issued against them by Shia clerics in Qom, Iran for their controversial album covers, particularly the cover of their second album Ayatollah Cockamamie which caricaturized the late Ayatollah Khomeini in the nude and being autoerotically asphyxiated and sodomized by the Hindu god Ganesha. Though Bella has alternately claimed the album cover is a "harmless joke" and "disumbrationist art," the title track of the album features a reading of Khomeini's edicts on personal hygiene and how to use rocks to wipe after defecating as the Islamic call to prayer and toilet flushing sounds reverberate in the background over a trance drum and bass track. Critics have compared the song to Negativland's banned parody of U2 and American Top 40 host Kasey Kasem using Kasem's own profanity-laced outtakes. The album name was also inspired by a line of dialogue in the 1997 film Donnie Brasco. Much of Lysenko's Harvest songs feature pop culture references and samples of political speeches and religious sermons used ironically. The band name refers to the famines in the former Soviet Union and other communist nations caused by the political embrace of the psuedoscience of Trifim Lysenko. Lysenkoism is a recurring target in Null Bella's hostility towards communist ideologies. Bella is often quoted as saying "...these imbeciles tried to magically turn weeds into wheat for over 30 years by pointing AK-47s at farmers. Do we even need to entertain the idea that communism isn't stupid?"

Politics have always driven Null Bella's rise to fame, and his libertarian polemics have now produced a 14 volume book series on the efficacy of capitalism over socialism and communism entitled Why Communism is F***ing Stupid. The books are international bestsellers, bolstered by his own two-hour daily right-wing talk radio programs. Following communist violence in his native Sarkar and an assassination attempt upon him that killed his wife and bandmate / bass guitarist Marta, Null Bella joined the fledgling Liberal Democrat Party and eventually became elected Senator on a platform of gun rights extremism and anti-communism. Several of Senator Bella's public speaking engagements have been cancelled due to violent protests and bomb threats. Bella takes the controversy in stride, saying "commies gotta commie."

Faith: Agnostic

Q: "Why do you believe Fernão citizens should be allowed to keep and bear any kind of weapons, including biological weapons and nuclear bombs?"

A: Because a government that would allow you to have them can be trusted.

Q: Senator Bella, do you have any relation with the following individual?

A: While I do have a passing fondness for an-caps, ultimately like the former US President Ronald "Talk to Gorbachev Instead of Nuking Him" Reagan, they are far too left-wing for my tastes.

Jay Walker - Civic Union
Image

Account Name: Jutsa
Occupation: CEO of Walker Electronics Incorporated

Party Position(s):
Avid Supporter

Positions in Government:
None

Constituency: None
Political Ideology: pro-industry, libertarian, pro-technology, personal well-being

Family: Milton Walker (Father), Luke Walker and William Walker (Brothers), Valeria Walker (Wife), Gloria Stephonie (Ex-Wife), Swift Walker (Son)
Background: Jay Walker is the last of three sons of Milton and Claudette Walker. Claudette died after Jay's introduction to the world, so times were relatively tough. Like his brother, William Walker, he had rough childhood before his father struck it rich in the electronics business, and always had a positive outlook upon life. Unlike his brothers, he was the only one to want to take up his father's job as CEO of Walker Electronics Inc. He married Gloria Stephonie, a well-known artist working in water-colour. However, that marriage fell to pieces within a couple of years. Not long after, he found Valeria Obrero, who to this day works at a daycare with the son they had together, Swift Walker.
Jay is not free from corruption. He sometimes attempts to bribe his politically involved brother, William Walker, with doughnuts, to support pro-capitalist and pro-business, although he claims that his brother's too "pro-integrity" to ever take the bribes seriously, and that they are more a publicly fun way of sending his brother gifts. However, the jury is still out on whether this is a serious attempt at bribery.
Faith: Aside from faith that everything will be ok, N/A

Likes: chocolate, red, hats, bowties, factories, and his family.
Dislikes: The RGA, Gloria Stephonie, solar flares, power outages, the colour orange, and reporters

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • "Mr. Walker, have you ever considered running for office like your brother, William?" ~Some reporter who happened to film William slipping on a banana peel - "Not in the slightest! I support the civic union, but politics in general, I find they're just tangled up messes. And this is coming from someone who's dealt in legal law suits and meters of tangled wires." ~Jay Walker
  • "What do you think of your brothers' choices in career, outside of the electronics business?" ~Same reporter - "I'm very proud of William... I try to send him boxes of doughnuts, to support the company, but he just ends up giving them to someone else. Luke? He chose an odd career, but he's happy." ~Jay Walker
  • "You said just now that you've tried bribing your brother." ~Some annoying reporter that Jay doesn't like - "Well, I like to pretend it's a bribe... but neither of us take it seriously, so it's more of my way of giving him a gift now and then." ~Jay Walker.
  • "Final question, sir. What made you stay and follow your father's footsteps?" ~Some less annoying reporter from FNN - "I loved technology. I suppose all of us did - or, well, except for maybe Luke. But without a mother, and no other siblings, I admit I did feel a bit obligated to carry the torch. However, I wouldn't have done it if I didn't feel it was the right choice for me, personally.

Walker Electronics Incorporated - Electronics Company
Image

Account Name: Jutsa

Objective: Creating, Manufacturing, and Selling Electronic Devices
Political Affiliations:
CEO: Civic Union, William Walker, Capitalism, Pro-Technology. Else: N/A

Location: A medium-sized town in Sarkar
Size: Large, though not huge and does have to deal with a fair bit of competition
Typical Uniform/Attire: Manufacturers are mandated to wear protective gear; Sellers must look presentable; CEO usually dresses in red; Staff and inventors usually wear suits and dresses, although it's not mandatory.
Background: Walker Electronics Inc. was founded by Milton Walker in 1985. Times had started out rough, as all they did back then was buy electronics from companies and sell them to the public. Then, one day, in 1995, he came up with a new invention - an taser that doubles as a walkie talkie. While it is now considered "sub-par", it kickstarted a new company - one which sells goods as well as produces them. The company was recently passed down to his youngest son, Jay Walker, who, while is not as hard a worker as his father, still manages very well with his family. The company has occasionally been attacked for being corrupt and trying to bribe officials for pro-capitalism, but most claims are by radical left-wing political ideologists. Few lawsuits have hit the company; a safety suit once occurred, which forced the company to make changes and pay back the injured worker, but the staff stated that the protocols were still in the planning, and regulations were finally adapted. The company has also had strikes, similar to other companies in Fernão.
Supports: Electronics, Worker Safety, Economic Freedom, Some Electronic Companies
Does not Support: Communism, Over-Restrictions, Law Suits, Tsunamis, Strikes, The RGA, Most Electronic Companies

Any Questions from the Public to be answered?
  • "Mr. Walker, what inspired you to give your company to your son so soon in your lifetime?" ~Reporter - "I figured he could do a fine job. Besides, he's let me stay on the board. He's just giving me a much less important role." ~Milton Walker
"What is that role, Mr. Walker?" - "Oh, mostly just decision making. Sometimes calming the feuds, other times joining them."
  • "Mr. Walker, your company has been stated to have had political involvement, and has influenced your brother's getting into office. What could you tell us about that?" ~Totally different reporter - "I... I'm not entirely sure how he even got into office. I love my brother, but he's kind of an odd-ball. My only guess is that people have gotten used to his charm and... slightly odd behavior, heeeeeh. I'm sure our glorious reputation probably didn't hurt, though." ~Jay Walker
  • "Mrs. Walker, what's it like being married to Mr. Walker?" ~same reporter - "It's interesting. He's a little eccentric, but he's the man I love. Although, it would be nice if we could spend more time together, but we both understand that his job is very important." ~Claudette Walker
