'I see no reason why you shouldn't have pineapple on pizza if you want it. I personally prefer a nice funghi pizza, but if you want pineapple have pineapple"

"We must not side with any one government or state, as doing so would risk our nation's security in numerous ways beyond simply the military aspect of things. We must play carefully on the international stage and establish relationships based on common goals and what may benefit us as a nation. Every nation has their misgivings, so it is vital that we work with everyone, whether they are in Washington, Moscow or Beijing. Remaining neutral is the smartest thing to do, and is the course any potential government of this nation should take."

He himself was Asian but had relatives of Portuguese descent. He had friends that were Dutch and African. Bell was always very compassionate as a child, and wanted to help the poor and mistreated. When he turned 18, in 1988, Bell traveled to the United States to study, and earned a degree in political science. While in the US, he raised awareness about Fernao and what was going on. He also came out as gay while in the US, and ever since has been an outspoken advocate of LGBTQ+ rights. Shortly before he returned to Fernao, the civil war broke out. He quickly returned to Fernao to assist in the war, and especially helped refugees. Bell was a well-known activist during the civil war, but being a peaceful man himself, never fought. This might be controversial, but I would say yes.

Right now, we don't have the luxury of creating enemies. I think that, in the volatile situation that we are in, we need to focus on rebuilding our nation and making sure that our domestic issues are taking care of while protecting our national security. I don't think it's a question of choosing sides or neutrality. The side I am on is the side of the people of Ferñao.

"Pizza is a Western invention and has no place here."

"Our government is run by corrupt Western puppets and will obviously take a pro-Western stance and a pro-India stance. I would like to see the Arab people removed from the presence of these evil colonialists and strive towards a better relationship with Moscow as well as Syria and Iran."

Sons:
  • Hon. D. Rogério Guilherme Tancredo Lopes da Torre, 12º conde de Rubiães (b. 1992)
  • Hon. D. Jorge Joaquim Gonçalo Lopes da Torre (b. 1994)

Background: Lourenço Teodorico Eleutério Mendes da Torre was born in Fortaleza on 7 August 1965 to Lúcia (née Oliveira Mendes), the daughter of wealthy planters, and Vasco Tancredo Gonçalo Cheswick da Torre, 10th Marquess of Novo Sandim, 4th Baron da Torre, a planter involved in the British colonial administration. The da Torres were heavily involved in the colonial administration of Fernão since Portuguese rule, with their marquessate derived from their settlement on the Eastern Mainland, and remained an integral part of it when Fernão came under British rule. Tancredo da Torre, the 7th Marquess, was Governor of Fernão under the British, for which he was rewarded with the title Baron da Torre of Novo Sandim in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. The da Torres were among the least popular leaders among non-whites due to their support for racial segregation and white-only suffrage, as well as taking positions on racial issues that even other Fernãoense whites considered extreme.

Lourenço attended Nossa Senhora da Paz Catholic School, Fortaleza, Eton College, the Royal Agricultural College, and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He was a child when Fernão became a socialist republic independent of the United Kingdom. His early politics were strongly influenced by his father, who was a staunch supporter of the old regime. Da Torre originally opposed both the CIA-backed coup and the rule of Amir Haddad for similar reasons, but over the years started to oppose those regimes on the basis of their widespread human rights abuses instead of the fact that they did not return the previous white elite to power. While he held these convictions in private, he was largely immune from persecution because of his large landholdings. He became critical of the Haddad government, calling Haddad's massacres of Indian Hindus and political dissidents "nothing short of pure, unadulterated barbarism." He started to come to the aid and rescue of Indian Hindus threatened by Haddad, contradicting the politics of his ancestors. After Fernão's liberation, he started developing some of his lands into high-end residences, vacation homes, and a resort, as well as standing for Senate under the Civic Union. He lives with his wife, Micaela, the daughter of wine merchants. They have two sons; Rogério, who attended Eton, the Royal Agricultural College, and RMA Sandhurst, is currently serving in the British Army; and Jorge, who attended Eton and Christ Church, Oxford.

Dislikes: Authoritarianism (for the most part), neocolonialism, cats

Any Questions from the Public to be answered? - Senator da Torre is open to questions.
  • Is pineapple a suitable topping for pizza? - I personally do not care for pineapple as a pizza topping, but pizza should be eaten with a knife and fork, no matter the topping.
  • Should our government align with Moscow, Washington, Beijing or take a more neutral approach to international affairs? - Neutrality is the best policy. Our islands have been subject to too much foreign meddling already, and further complicating our relationships with other nations by entering into entangling alliances with global superpowers will not help that.

Background: Founded in 1652, Novo Sandim was one of the first Portuguese settlements in Fernão. Its founder, Tancredo da Torre, was born to farmers in the town of Rubiães in northern Portugal and ran a tailor shop in Sandim, near Porto. He made a small fortune and decided to settle in Fernão to increase it by farming cash crops. He later became involved in the colonial administration of Fernão and was rewarded with a marquessate. British rule brought British settlers and Indian labourers to Novo Sandim. Racial tensions were high until the end of the dictatorship and still exist to some extent, but have largely subsided as a result of the shared antipathy of both whites and Indian Hindus toward the Haddad regime. A significant amount of the Indian population is composed of refugees, rescued with the assistance of the current Marquess, from the areas of the Western Mainland that were formerly under Amir Haddad's control. Novo Sandim has attracted many British retirees in recent years due to its relatively low cost of living and the Marquess's efforts to turn Novo Sandim into a tourist destination.

Background: Lucas Augusto Galhimar was born on January 1st 1962 in the town of Lussemburgo in Fernão to Augusto Michel Galhimar (b. 1933), a Portuguese-Fernoan accountant, and Abigail Krantzmeyer (b. 1938), the sole heiress of a middle-class Jewish family. Augusto died of poor health in 1971, when Lucas was just nine years old. Lucas' mother Abigail remarried a few years later, having three sons with Ezekiel Kourletis, a Greek-Jewish diplomat who was residing in Fernão. Ezekiel being more religious than Lucas' real father, Ezekiel tried to give Lucas a Jewish upbringing, which Lucas refused. In 1974, Ezekiel was called back to Greece following the regime change there, bringing his wife and three sons with him. Lucas, however, chose to remain in Fernão, living with his paternal grandfather Michel Galhimar (b. 1911), a retired factory worker who since turned to journalism. With his grandfather's help, Lucas completed his secondary education in 1980 and attended Cardeira University, where he read Politics & Economics. At Cardeira University, Lucas became affiliated with various Trotskyist movements, which eventually faced persecution by the Fernoan government of the time. After his degree, Lucas became a professor at Cardeira University, where he stayed until 1997. In 1989, Lucas married Sara Montesquieu, a French journalist. In 1998, Lucas joined the Luta Operária as a policy advisor and spokesperson. In 2017, following a temporary disbandment of the Central Committee, Lucas was appointed Interim Leader of the Luta Operária.

Background: Diogo was born in 1962 near the lake in the central part of the eastern mainland, and split his time between school, the family farm, fishing, and learning to cook. When he was 12, the First Republic expropriated his father's land, and he grew to resent the way it took advantage of his father and told him what he could or couldn't do. Then when the Republic was toppled, his father's land was bought out by a rich landowner, with nothing they could do about it. Destitute, he and his parents moved to the coast, where they took up fishing for a living. This is where he met his wife Maria. Maria and Diogo helped to support his parents while dealing with a growing family of their own. Diogo needed to help provide for everyone in his family, so he and Maria started a seafood restaurant, which they have run for the past 26 years, through thick and thin. Diogo got into politics because he thinks that the country needs good, honest, hardworking voices like his to help rebuild the country after the devastating civil war. He brings a willingness to listen and an appreciation for the working people of this land.

Positions in Government:

Constituency: Estoria

Political Ideology: Free Market Capitalism

Family:
Wife: Liliana Mendosa-Pereira (m. 2006)
Son: Caspiano Pereira (b. 2015)

Background: Born December 25, 1979, Pereira was raised in the tough Cidade Estoria slum of Bairro Vila-Velho. While his mother spent much of her time working to support he and his two younger sisters, Luciano was primarily cared for by his grandmother until her death when Luciano was 11 years old. Searching for the love he lacked at home, Pereira turned to the streets. He joined a local youth gang at 13 and was arrested at 15 for possession of narcotics, though the charges were ultimately dropped. After that scare, Pereira turned his life around, and with the help of a local church, he was able to attend school.

Graduating with honors, Luciano went on to attend law school and graduated at the top of his class. At 22 he got his first taste of politics interning at the former senators office in downtown Cidade Estoria. It was here that he was introduced to the relationship of lobbying and economics, and it was then that he, as he would say, fell in love with the game. Senator Pereira believes his time spent in one of the worst slums in the region and his knowledge of the workings of the criminal underworld make him incredibly capable at his job.

Population: 35,650

Ethnic Composition:
Portuguese-63% (Portuguese of African Descent-31%), French-11%, Arab-9%, Spanish-7%, Indigenous-6%, Russian-2%, Ukrainian-1%, Other-1%

Background: The densely populated Estoria is known for its ethnic and economic diversity. Surrounding the visually stunning Porta Nova, Estoria boasts an extensive waterfront that has been exploited to boost tourism, which helps contribute to a large portion of the areas revenue. Manufacturing, banking, and public transportation are also major contributors.

In recent years, high violent crime rates in the area have had adverse effects on tourism, and have caused increased spending toward law enforcement. High crime in the historically impoverished Bairro Vila-Velho is believed to be attributed to drug and illegal firearm trafficking driven by the Sindicato Escorpião, a local, semi-organized crime ring believed to have direct ties to the notorious Odessa Black, an international, black market arms smuggling operation that is believed to hold power in the constituency.

Religion:
While Roman Catholic is the predominant religion in the area, Orthodox Christianity and a growing Jewish community are also present.

Ethnic Composition:
41% European (37% Portuguese, 2% English, 1% Dutch, 1% Danish), 23% Indian, 10% Arab, 3% African, 23% Jewish

Background: The town of New Faro was built by disadvantaged Portuguese settlers from the Algarve looking for a better life, seeing the town's small inland cove as being an ideal place to make a small port town where they could live easily. They took the name from the capital of the Portuguese Algarve, Faro, due to the settlers coming mostly from near or around the town. As trade in the Indian Ocean grew, people started using the town's cove as a place to dock for a night on their way from Europe to East Asia, India and Oceania, meaning that the town developed facilities to accommodate for the influx of visitors and to help store goods that the traders imported into New Faro. The town grew quickly, with Indians looking for a better life moving in as well as Jews fleeing persecution, hoping that they would be safe in the town.

The town grew quickly, becoming a small middle-class settlement and trading post, as well as increasingly becoming a resort for well-off British people when Fernão fell under British rule, which started a strong history of tourism in the town. Upon independence, the town retained it's large tourist industry for Europeans seeking a place in the sun, and it's natural harbour was still used as a trading post. However, the tourism industry slowed during the right-wing dictatorship, and then further so under the civil war, although during the civil war New Faro did a rather good job of staying stable and acted as a small, functioning democracy, holding out the forces and maintaining peace. When the UN intervention happened and peace was restored to the nation, the tourism industry exploded and many started going to New Faro as a holiday resort, leading to the bustling tourist town seen today.

The town elected António Ventura of the Red-Green Alliance as their Senator in the first elections, his message of unity, liberty and equality resonating with the town's diverse population, as well as his pledge to keep the town a beautiful environment.

Sílvio da Costa Oliveira - That farmer's party
Image

Account Name: Costa Fiero
Occupation: Senator, former mayor.

Party Position(s): None bro.
Positions in Government: None bro.
Constituency: Bomventos
Political Ideology: Radical centrism

Family: Alícia (wife, born 1968, married 1998), Liliana (daughter, born 1999), Rúben (son, born 1994)
Background: Sílvio da Costa Oliveira was born on January 17, 1962 in Funchal on the Azores Islands of Portugal. His father, Óscar da Costa Carmona, was a prominent lawyer in Funchal and served on the city council. His mother, Letícia Oliveira Lourenço da Costa, ran a popular bakery in the district of Santo António in the northeast of the city. The family lived a comfortable lifestyle and were considered to be reasonably middle class, despite his father's prominent business. Sílvio was the oldest son of four children; he had two older sisters (Marcia born in 1952 and Virgínia born in 1958). His younger brother, Rafael, was born two years after Sílvio in 1964. They both shared a close relationship and often conspired together in their sibling rivarly between them and their sisters. Sílvio described his father as a "firm but fair" kind of person and expected both he and his brother to act and behave according to how he saw fit whilst giving them the best start in life.

He attended primary school and high school in Santo António, attending the Colégio do Marítimo, a private school within the district. According to his teachers, Sílvio did not appear to be an especially popular or adept student and struggled with mathmatics. He was noted to have a particular interest in foreign languages, geography and history. Sílvio also excelled at speeches when he gave them, but his unwillingness to speak in front of large crowds and preference for working behind the scenes did not endear him to his fellow students that well.

Sílvio was only 12 when the Estado Novo regime fell in Portugal in 1974 and his family was not particularly affected by the change in regime, with the Azores benefitting from being islolated reasonably well from mainland politics. Upon turning 18 in 1980, Sílvio began his mandatory military service. He served in the Portuguese Air Force for five years, qualifying as a fighter pilot and flying the Italian-built Fiat G-91 fighter bomber. After five years of service, he was honourably discharged from the air force. Now living in mainland Portugal, Sílvio moved off the base into Lisbon, where he attended the University Institute of Lisbonl, graduating initially with a Licenciatura in Political Science in 1989. He returned to the university in 1990 and obtained a Master's Degree in Public Policy in 1995. During his last two years of study, Sílvio obtained an internship with the Portuguese delegation in the United Nations in New York, where he proved himself to be a fastidious worker. Upon graduation, he worked in New York until 1998 where he was sent by the Portuguese government to work in East Timor. He worked in East Timor until 2002, when the country obtained independence.

In 2002, Sílvio moved to Fernao where he obtained a residency visa and began working initially for the municipal government in the city of Bomventos. He achieved permanent residency in 2007 and gained citizenship in 2012, allowing him to stand for elected office. He became mayor of Bomventos that year and remained in office until 2016, where he decided not to run for another term in order to run for political office.

During his term as mayor, Sílvio garnered popularity as an effective and sympathetic political figure. He inherited a city that was not particularly badly affected by the civil war raging at the time, but instead had other issues, namely poor public transport and infrastructure as well as corruption problems with public officials. Between 2012 and 2014, Sílvio launched an anti-corruption campaign, firing public officials who had been caught receiving bribes or other corrupt practices and prosecuted them in court. He also drafted legislation that created a municipal police force that answered to him and arrested numerous officers for corruption, intimidation and murder. Public confidence in the city's elected officials went from 32% in 2012 to 47% in 2016. Crime rates dropped significantly during Sílvio's administration also. Economically, Sílvio created a special economic zone with the assistance of the state government where he allowed foreign companies to establish factories and invest in the city's public works. His policy allowed foreign companies to pay no corporate taxes and half the tax rate for income taxes if they paid the legal minimum wage for factory workers and invested US$5 million into the city's infrastructure. The boom in construction and the investments gained allowed Sílvio to grow and expand the city's infrastructure as well as it's manufacturing base.

Today Sílvio lives in the district of Palmeiras with his wife Alícia, whom he met whilst working in New York and married in 1998, and his two children: Liliana (born in Darwin, Australia in 1999) and Rúben (born in Bomventos, Fernao in 2004).
