Ferdinand, FD-4 Constituency — TVs slowly begin to be shown the following ad:

Us here in Ferdinand are looking to elect a new leader.
Image

Should we elect Leopoldo Agramonte, or Alexios Viel?
Image

We know that Leopoldo Agramonte's family plantation was accused of using slave labour.
And they don't really feel like talking about it...

Image

We know that Leopoldo Agramonte was not just a supporter, but a willing member of the dictatorship that ruled Fernão until it was deposed, a high-ranking member of its military, no less — what disdain he must have for our democratic Senate...

We know is that we need a much better candidate that wants more than to erase his past for votes, and will most likely complain about being 'attacked' while still not doing anything for you or your family...

Image

Alexios Viel is not afraid to take on the Senate to make sure your workers' rights are upheld.

Image

Alexios Viel fights to make sure that the rich pay their fair share in taxes, even if that means that he has to hand over more.

Image

Alexios Viel fights to make sure Fernão enters the World Trade Organisation so we may have better jobs and better trading opportunities.

Vote for a candidate who fights for you in the Senate. Vote for Alexios Viel.
Image

At the same time, radio ads begin to air in exclusively rural areas of the FD-4 constituency.

In rural Fernão, you may sometimes think your voices aren't heard. It usually is true of politicians, and it is quite the shame.

Alexios Viel is not one of those politicians.

He personally co-sponsored the Agricultural Fuel Subsidies Act, making sure that your agribusiness doesn't need to live in fear of purchasing expensive, bank-busting fuel.

He also wrote and submitted the Federal Infrastructure Act, ensuring that rural Fernão is not left behind in the rebuilding of our war-torn infrastructure.

Vote for a candidate that gets things done for rural Fernão. Vote for Alexios Viel.

Vishar, Sarkaar

There was a particular reason why Raghav Kshatriya had chosen this location to start his campaign for the seat of SA-3. While he had grown up in the industrial city of Babri, the best moments of his childhood were before the war, when his father had a holiday lodge here, and he and his younger brothers and sisters ran through wheat fields like nobody's business.

That, and because it was the location where he found out his wife had the early stages of a rare disease while on a campaign rally in the previous electoral campaign, forcing him to skip the rally and nearly half the campaign shuttling between the hospital in Fortaleza and wherever he was supposed to be. The opposition's chants of "Where is Raghav?" whenever his close friend David Bloom had helped him campaign hadn't helped his stress, or sleeping hours either.

In the end, he lost the seat by 16,652 votes. After a short concession speech thanking his supporters for the campaign, he once again rushed to Fortaleza, where clutching his wife's hand, he took a sleeping pill and got the most sleep he had gotten in a while.

In a sense, this represented him coming full circle.

His hair now slightly greyer than the first time he stepped into the Parliament House, he began speaking to the assembled crowd.

"Ladies and gentlemen, good morning. It feels wonderful to be here in the magnificent town of Vishar to officially start my campaign for the Senate, to become your local assemblyman.

For years now I have witnessed the devastating effects this war has had on this beautiful South Asian paradise. Untouched natural beauty spoiled by war, grenades and bullets.

We can put that all behind us and move forward, as a country of one. One Fernao, which simultaneously extends its branches to the world while keeping rooted in the traditions of our various cultures to create a Fernese entity. We will ensure this by making public investment in infrastructure, a loosening of the archaic regulations and laws that govern businesses today, and of course by delivering the President's agenda. We will extend our hand out to the world, by making sure we join the United Nations, World Trade Organisation, and other international bodies such that we can contribute on the global stage as well.

By electing me as your Senator, I can make that happen. One of my esteemed colleagues, Mr. Vijay Mittal, is already the Foreign Secretary of this nation - and he is already on his way to Sri Lanka as we speak to determine what we can do to help each other.

Another one of my esteemed colleagues, Mr. Rajab Khawaja, is campaigning for a seat in Maabra up against the Red-Green Alliance. What can I say of my former party? Of course, they have honourable men and women in their party - the former President, Vishal Vig, as well as David Bloom amongst others. But ever since I left the party I have witnessed their fall into the depths of hyperpartisanship by blocking nominees for the President's cabinet. You have seen this happen. Jayash Gadhavi has failed to act as a Minority Leader should, and has taken matters into his own hands by refusing to even bring the President's nominees to debate - and they wish to call the Civic Union partisan! They should take a good hard look at themselves in the mirror.

This campaign may be short in length, but the impacts will be long-standing. Only Forward Fernao ! has the long-term sight to carry on the agenda that they have to make Fernao a player on the world stage once more.

So vote for Forward Fernao! Thank you."

At a campaign office in the main city of FD-1

Brzęczyszczykiewicz addressed the mass of volunteers outside of his office, "Thank you all for coming out today to support me and our vision for Fernão and for FD-1. Remember our one goal, to bring this country together, and for today, to spread the word and raise money for this campaign. Remind everyone when you go door to door that every dollar counts and every dollar will continue our mission of making Fernão a better country for all"

Later that day
*Transcript translated from its original German*

ANNOUNCER: "Thank you for tuning into Radio Vernau Primetime, your source for all things German in Fernao. 92.3 FM in Northern Ferdinand and available throughout Fernao from our website or check our website for the frequency of your local transmitter. Today we have invited Grzegorz Brzęczyszczykiewicz, the incumbent candidate for FD-1 running as the representative for the Union of Anabaptists. So Mr. Brzęczyszczykiewicz, what do you have planned for this term."

Brzęczyszczykiewicz: "First off, thank you for inviting me onto your program free of charge, it's nice to see our community coming together for a great cause. This term, I plan to try to break the deadlock present in our parliament. In the past term, little to no legislation has been passed due to partisan bickering between our two largest parties and their refusal to put the people of Fernão first. How can we rebuild our economy and our nation if we can't pass any laws. Like my predecessor's proposal for agricultural fuel subsidies, a basic program, hasn't even hit the floor since the Senate refuses to get past the issue of nominees and just decided to go into recess."

ANNOUNCER: "An excellent priority Mr. Brzęczyszczykiewicz. What do you think of your opponent this term."

Brzęczyszczykiewicz: "Seems to be the perennial candidate type, in my opinion. He's not affiliated to any party and just seems to show up whenever an election is being held. So far he has ran on platforms of little to no substance besides opposing the creation of our national school system. How will this really benefit the people of FD-1? has he ever held a position in any party or government? No, he simply isn't ready to lead."

ANNOUNCER: "That appears to be all the time we have for now Mr. Brzęczyszczykiewicz, thank you for your time and best of luck on election day.""

Brzęczyszczykiewicz: "Thank you and if anyone has any questions, feel free to go to my website Brzęczyszczykiewicz.fn for more information on my campaign or contact my office directly."

At Viel HQ in Govila, FD-4 Constituency

Viel himself addressed the small army of volunteers in the anteroom of his personal office. "My fellow Fernãoans, thank you for taking the time out of your day to support me and the platforms I have set forth for this country and this constituency. You are all people that hold a special place in my heart for doing this, and I never seem to be able to thank you enough." Two of his staffers began to pass out small slips of paper. "Your first assignments are to go out and get out the vote and raise funds for the campaign. I want you to focus your efforts more on the lower to middle end of the economic spectrum, with donations less than $20 wholeheartedly accepted. These people may not have much to give in money, but they give millions in their support and vote. We need to show them that we value whatever contribution they are able to make, and that we welcome them to our platform to make this country a better place. Godspeed, my friends."

EXCLUSIVE: Interview with Candidate Viel

TODAY, our very own Michael Serrano had the pleasure of interviewing Senator Alexios Viel, the incumbent currently fighting for his seat against the Civic Union's Leopoldo Agramonte. The interview was broadcast on both television and radio. Here's what he had to say.

Serrano: "Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Michael Serrano, Chief Political Correspondent here at the Portimão Today. Today, we are going to be interviewing incumbent RGA Senator Alexios Viel, who is currently fighting for his reelection against the Civic Union's Leopoldo Agramonte. Senator, thank you for coming today.

Viel: "Thank you for having me, Michael."

Serrano: "Let's get into the first topic. Tell me, Senator Viel — many of your supporters are a tad disappointed since they haven't seen you churn out as much legislation as you used to. Why is that?"

Viel: "Well, this is actually fairly simple to respond to. I was busy drafting the Government Revenue Act, the largest bill I've actually ever written. What took so long was the review process — I had to speak to dozens of Senators and supporters, trying to get the most voices heard before I submitted it to the Senate. When it comes to taxes and the way people are affected by those things, I really wanted to make sure I got it right, and since it was such a large bill, there were numerous times when I had to go back and rewrite whole sections because of one error. It's a difficult and time-consuming process, but I did it in the best interest of my constituents."

Serrano: "Though, Senator Viel, you can admit that you've also drafted bills of similar importance, like infrastructure and government transparency. What made this different?"

Viel: "The very fact that it was tax policy was what made me take especially long. Tax policy is highly multi-faceted and complex to such a degree that I needed to ensure enough people read and agreed to the bill, otherwise the Civic Union could lay waste to all the good work I tried to do to reduce the income and wealth inequality that plagues our nation. I had to balance both the procedural matter of collecting taxes, upholding my promise to combat income inequality and ensure that everything I did had as broad support as possible. However, this bill will push us in the right direction towards solving the problem of income inequality, and it'll help me to get back to the other issues facing our country today."

Serrano: "Well, I can say that our polling data on your bill has shown that it is especially popular for working-class Fernãoans due to its tax credits to working taxpayers and small businesses."

"But moving on from that, what is your opinion of your opponent in this race?"

Viel: "Well look Michael, in my last race I faced a very good Senator with strong morals and robust conservative viewpoints, which I respected. We both had a sense that this was a debate about policy and ideas, and it became clear that the electorate recognised that. The same cannot be said for my opponent — we are looking at a man who didn't just support the Soetoro regime, but was an active military operative of the dictator. This is a man that led attacks against those who fought against the dictator for nothing more than freedom and civil liberties. Sound familiar?"

Serrano: "Wait, didn't you fight against the strongman and his forces during the late 90s and early 2000s?"

Viel: "Indeed I did. So, look at the options that are now presented to the people of this constituency: either elect a man that fought FOR a regime that brutally oppressed them and has little to no political substance, or elect a man that fought AGAINST the regime and has presented a broad platform of universal healthcare, making sure the rich pay their fair share, protecting the environment and ensuring that the government is an open and democratic place."

Serrano: "Those are strong words, Mr. Viel."

Viel: "I would've never thought I would run against a man that I fought against during the civil war — hopefully the people of Fernão will choose wisely whether they want to return to the strongman or continue our fight for a better, more progressive future for all of us by voting for me."

Serrano: "That appears to be all the time we have today. Thank you, Mr. Viel, for coming on today and good luck on Election Day."

Viel: "Thank you very much."

Opinion: Forward Fernão! forever | David Books
David Books, Fernão News Network | June 14 2017

Image
I put forward Forward Fernão! as the best party for Fernão!

As the Red-Green Alliance and Civic Union play petty politics in Fortaleza, the rest of the country waits for change. It would not be entirely inaccurate to say that the political establishment is fiddling while Fernão burns. But just as En Marche! rose to power in France as a rejection of the Socialist-Republican dichotomy, Forward Fernão! is rising from the ashes of Fernão's failed political establishment. One could say that founder and party leader Raghav Kshatriya rose from the ashes of the Red-Green Alliance. Kshatriya was once the Chief Whip of the Red-Green Alliance, but he has turned his back on their failures. It is time for the people of Fernão to follow suit, and turn their backs of the failures of the RGA and CU.

Kshatriya and Forward Fernão! has proven that what matters is not what is left and right, but what is right and wrong. Not dissimilarly from En Marche! in France and the Nick Xenophon Team in Australia, Forward Fernão! advocates for reason-based politics. They take the best parts of the left and the right, and combine them to form the radical centre. Of course, there's nothing radical about radical centrism; it's purely about using pragmatism to tackle the structural obstacles that Fernão faces. The Civic Union is controlled by corporations and foreign investors, while behind the Red-Green Alliance you will find only the General Union of Workers. Neither offer the sort of independent thinking that is needed if we wish to make Fernão truly great. Forward Fernão! has boldly rejected this false dichotomy, and promises to combat both corporate and union corruption.

It should be clear to my lovely readers by now that I have finally found a party I can proudly support. For all the reasons above, and many more, I strongly endorse the candidacy of Raghav Kshatriya in Sarkar's 3rd district. Mr. Kshatriya's victory will be the harbinger of a new era of politics in Fernão, one dominated by the rational centre, and I can't wait.

Opinion: Reza Kassem is the only choice for SA-2 | David Books
David Books, Fernão News Network | June 14 2017

Image
The race for SA-2 may disappoint, but Reza Kassem (pictured) is the only choice

I think it's safe to say that the increasingly partisan political scene in Fernão has only further dismayed our nation's radical centrists. They will not find solace in the race in Sarkar's 2nd district. Voters there face a choice between the Red-Green Alliance's Reza Kassem and the Coalition of Workers and Farmers' Michael Ferreira. Neither are anywhere close to ideal. Kassem originates from a somewhat reasonable wing of the RGA, but he still looks to government first and foremost when it comes to change and progress. However, I have no choice but to endorse Mr. Kassem, for his opponent is far worse. Meet Michael Ferreira, self-proclaimed supporter of protectionism and opponent of free trade. While Kassem looks to government for solutions, Ferreira looks somewhere much worse: the past. Ferreira's candidacy represents the white backlash against an increasingly diverse and global society. On election day, SA-2's voters must reject that vision.

Reza Kassem has made clear on the campaign trail that he is no strong supporter of free trade. Kassem calls for fair trade, and labour and environmental protections in trade deals. Mr. Kassem may not realize that free trade is fair trade, but he still accepts that increased trade and globalization should not be avoided. Ferreira, on the other hand, rails against trade and the World Trade Organization, and calls for protective tariffs, while voting with the Civic Union in favor of Cabinet Secretaries who seek to brutally privatize our public services, I might add.

In my previous endorsement of Raghav Kshatriya, I celebrated the rise of the centre, in the form of Forward Fernão. I compared FF! to France's En Marche!. Michael Ferriera's Coalition for Workers and Farmers represents a different breed of centrism entirely. The Coalition is far more New Zealand First than En Marche!. It is xenophobic, backwards, and bad for business. Fernão must embrace immigration, trade, and globalization, not reject them. Reza Kassem may not be the ideal candidate, but he is the only choice for SA-2.

State of Ferdinand: A campaign advertisement plays on television.

What exactly is on Alexios Viel's mind?
Image

You may not like to hear this, but Senator Viel is coming up with new ways to raise your taxes, hurt your businesses, and make Fernão weaker.
Image

But there is a way to stop Viel's anti-Ferdinand schemes.
Image

Leopoldo Agramonte is the man who will stand up for you.
Image

With Agramonte on our side, we can put Ferdinand back to work. Prosperity is just around the corner.

BREAKING NEWS: Red-Green Alliance endorses candidates for parliamentary elections
Alexander Gouda, Fernão News Network | June 14 2017

- (Fortaleza, Fernão) The Red-Green Alliance has made endorsements in several races in the upcoming parliamentary, governor and mayoral elections. A majority of the endorsed candidates come from the party itself, but the Alliance has also endorsed Mengistu of the Communist Party and Kshatriya of Forward Fernão. You can see the press release below:

Official Press Release of the Red-Green Alliance

The Red-Green Alliance is proud to release its list of endorsed candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections:

Senate:
Maabara At-Large: Shim Seo-yeon (RGA) [Malgrave]
SA-1: Aminah Hadi (RGA) [Tasimah]
SA-2: Reza Kassem (RGA) [Collatis]
SA-3: Raghav Kshatriya (FF!) [Tumbra]
FD-2: John Smith (RGA) [Nation of the People of the Nation]
Eastern Fortaleza: Theresa April (RGA) [Magora]
FD-3: José Luis Echeverría (RGA) [Turealia]
FD-4: Alexios Viel (RGA) [Tectonix]
NG-2: Nisha Gadhavi (RGA) [Socialist Nordia]
NG-3: Iyasu Isaias Mengistu (Communist Party) [Atlantica]

State:
New Guernsey Governor: Socialist Nordia (RGA)
Fortaleza Mayor: Chetan Nagarkar (RGA)
Sarkar Governor: David Bloom (RGA)

Ten to twenty staffers have been sent to each district to help the preferred candidates with their campaigns.

The Red-Green Alliance declined to endorse a candidate in the NG-1 constituency, where they have no candidate running. It is believed that the party does not wish to alienate the leadership of the Humanist Union or the Communist Party by supporting one party over the other as that might harm future coalition talks. It is also believed that similar concerns stopped the party from nominating either candidate in the FG-1 constituency as well.

PRESS RELEASE
For immediate and general release

Vice President Beto Goncalves is proud to announce his endorsement of Michael Ferreira in the Sarkar 2nd district race.

"Michael is a colleague and a friend to me, but most importantly to the people of Sarkar, he is a representative for them, for their interests, their desires, and their demands. Michael is a patriot, who loves his country and its people, a progressive, who knows that Fernão can be even better than it is now, and a protectionist, who will fight for our people's economic future. What he is not is a career politician. Michael is a man seeking to make this country a better place to live, to raise a family, and to work, and for those aims I deeply respect him. On his behalf I humbly ask for your vote."
"For the glory of our people, we govern our nation freely. For the glory of Polynesia, we help and strengthen our friends. For the glory of the earth, we do not destroy what it has bestowed upon us."

OOC: As this is technically a town hall session you can ask questions as a journalist or a member of the audience, although I will probably just ignore any crazy questions.

Image

Inside a packed community hall Shim Seo-yeon, the former Secretary of Public Works and current representative of Maabara At-Large gave her first large-scale speech of the campaign before opening to questions from members of the audience. It is expected that Shim Seo-yeon will play a far more active role on the campaign trail, and several sources close to the Senator have said that Seo-yeon will travel with Kassem, Bloom, Gadhavi and other high-profile figures in the RGA to assist in multiple closely fought constituency and state-wide elections across the country

Comrades,

It is a great pleasure and indeed an honour to be out speaking with you all today, and I am rather pleased that so many of you have turned out to hear me talk about the many issues facing our country, and hear me respond to your questions.

Now I suspect that a few of you here today have heard me talk about my background in the socialist resistance movement, and how my experiences assisting the local workers left behind by the dictatorship and my minor role in the peace settlement that helped bring democracy, stability and peace to this island forged my current values so I am just going to talk about policy, and give an example of why we need strong, independent RGA politicians in the Senate.

You see when I was here previously I talked about how I have been fighting for workers rights my entire adult life, and I remember talking about my ambition to set-up a single-payer healthcare system, establish a progressive taxation system and implement the legislation I put forward that would create proper social housing and found a state-owned energy production, distribution and research company, and I am rather proud to reaffirm my commitment to all of these values, and pledge to you that I will not rest until these goals have been accomplished.

I believe that everyone in this country should receive great medical treatment regardless of their financial circumstances, and not face the possibility of bankruptcy or even death because they had the misfortune to fall ill or have an accident, and I recognise that a system of single-payer healthcare will stop that from happening. I also believe that the government should ensure that everyone in this country has the opportunity to own or rent their own home, and that the government should take all necessary steps required to eliminate the scourge of homelessness from our country and remove the slums that blight our urban and rural communities, and in order to achieve that goal I wrote the Fernoan Affordable Housing Act.

In addition to universal healthcare and the expansion of affordable properties for direct home ownership and renting I also believe that everyone should be connected to an electrical grid that provides them with affordable and clean energy, and to that end I have also created the Fernoan Electrical Infrastructure Act to achieve that goal and create hundreds of decent paying jobs.

Now I could talk further about my campaign to establish a progressive, prosperous and equitable society, but I am certain you’ll hear enough about that throughout the election campaign and I did promise that I would give a direct example of why we need strong, independent RGA politicians that did not involve policy, and I can tell you now that it involves the formation of the new government's cabinet.

You see in the process of debating one of the candidates put forward by this government it came to my attention that Arslan Shapur, the government's candidate to lead the Department of Public Works had supported the previous dictatorship because he believed that it would implement Pinochet-style free market reforms, that I understand he hoped would benefit his growing construction business in the country, now I noted at the time that Mister Shapur eventually turned against the regime and assisted one of the various anti-government forces in the country but I find it extremely disturbing that Mister Shapur continues to support Pinarchism, an ideology practised by the authoritarian regime of Augusto Pinochet, a sickening individual that violently suppressed democratic movements and trade unionism by torturing and killing tens of thousands of innocent civilians, as I have said in the past my father was murdered shortly after the establishment of the CIA-backed dictatorship and I hold a sense of solidarity with those innocent civilians killed by our former dictatorship and the Pinochet regime, so I found myself disgusted that such a candidate would be nominated by this government in the first place.

I am incredibly proud that my colleagues in the Red-Green Alliance worked together to ensure that Arslan Shapur was defeated rather soundly, but within moments President Krishnan refused to recognise this vote and simply announced that the government was re-nominating Mister Shapur and another failed candidate to the same positions they had been rejected to lead just moments ago.

We need a strong progressive voice in the Senate, not only to push for single-payer healthcare, affordable housing and the other policies I mentioned earlier but to boldly stand up to this government's right-wing agenda and stop it from trying to ram through awful candidates like Arslan Shapur, and I believe that my firm track record in standing up for workers rights and standing up against this government proves that I am the best candidate for this role.

Once again I would like to thank each and every one of you for attending this event and I now open myself to questions from the audience, although I politely ask each one of you to wait for the microphone before asking the question or I won’t be able to hear it properly."

Veas´Campaign

The Communist Youth are helping to put their own posters of the ones from the other candidate.

Image

A political rally speech of Veas is transmitted via Radio to all listeners in New Guernsey:

"Friends, brothers, sisters today marks a historic day, starting today I will fight with you to achieve what you want and what is best for you. A just society of people trusting and helping each other not stabbing each other in the back for the sake of political capital or some high and mighty sounding office. The people of New Guernsey are waking up and are starting to hear and join in on our calls for freedom from opression, they do not want to play the zero-sum game of capitalism anymore, where the corporate fat cats win and you the hard working labourer loses everything. We do not want these mere trinkets from the government that they call "social security" as if that would provide you with the living standard you deserve for your endless and tireless work.
We do not want our countried to be bullied around by international organisations controlled by the big companies wishing to find ever new grounds for cheap labour exploitation, maybe with the other countries in the region, but nor Fernao! We are a strong and proud nation that won´t bend their iron will to the desires of capitalism."

Veas starts singing as the masses join in:
"Working man wake up,
and realise your might,
all the wheels will stop turning,
if your strong arm wants them to,
Working man wake up!"
Proud founding member of the Union of Sovereign States

Fernão TODAY

New Guernsey Gubernatorial Candidate Claims Degree From Nonexistent University, Birth From Nonexistent Country

According to official documents put out by Senator and gubernatorial candidate Alexander Aponte, it appears as though his place of birth, and university degree are both fabricated.

Fernão Today found no indication that "Alexlandian National University" exists or has ever existed. This brings startling implications that Senator Aponte achieved his position through lying about his education. Despite claiming degrees in Economics and Business Sciences, it is not clear whether Aponte even has a real high school diploma.

Even more startling, Aponte's official birth certificate, overlooked until now, appears to indicate that he was born in a fictional country named "AlexLand". Whether this is an elaborate joke, or a plainly obvious attempt at deception is uncertain. Regardless, calls for Senator Aponte to explain his apparently fraudulent documents are expected to grow in the coming days. Indeed, his chances in New Guernsey could be at stake.

Leopoldo Agramonte kicks off his campaign by meeting directly with voters.
Excerpt from latest Agramonte rally:

"Ladies and gentlemen, there is no greater pleasure for me than to shake your hands and stand alongside you. I know that you are all ready for change, real change. Not only that, but we know that Alexios Viel is not the man who will provide Ferdinand with what it needs. This state is blessed with good people, and while I do not question Viel's moral resolve, he is wholly incapable of guiding Ferdinand to its future. Our industries are lagging behind the rest of Fernão where they once stood as the backbone of our economy. Our national defense is too weak to guarantee the people's freedoms in these uncertain times. The government lacks real discipline."

"I learned from my years of service in the military that there is nothing we can't accomplish when we are together. It is time we rebuilt our military from the ground up! It is time that we give workers better jobs, and that we protect religious liberty from the RGA's consistent attacks on faith. I wish to propose new solutions to complex issues. I would like to balance our budget and encourage fiscal responsibility. I would like to cut your taxes, so that you are free to do more with the money that you earn. Currently, I am standing up to the entire political establishment so that you will never be forgotten again."

"While Viel is soaking up endorsements from those in power, I am fighting to restore that power to each of you. Fight the establishment! Vote Agramonte!"

Senator Viel Gives Speech on Racial, Religious Tolerance

YESTERDAY, Senator Alexios Viel (RGA) gave a surprising speech on social issues, namely racial and religious tolerance, at a community centre on the outskirts of one of our constituency's major cities, so as both urban and rural supporters would be able to attend. The centre was filled to near capacity with scores of christian, muslim and hindus, of all races. After a reverberating round of applause as the casually-dressed Viel took the podium, he began to speak:

"Thank you, thank you so much for coming out today!" He smiled and laughed as the crowd still cheered, until finally they died down. "Thank you. I'd like to quickly recognise Mr. Ivan Donhaim, the owner of this community centre, for allowing me to see you all and talk for a bit." He smiled again as the audience applauded the short man smiling in a seat adjacent to the podium.

"I've made my political agenda and vision quite clear: to ensure that our blossoming democracy becomes a fully-fledged progressive nation, with firm diplomatic ties with the rest of the globe, a stable economy and a functional social order. We've had far too much pain and death at the hands of the dictator that used to rule us, and we cannot allow such forces to permeate our politics again."

"Fernão is a proudly diverse nation in both race and religion, and as we've seen in other countries, this great jewel of ours can easily slip and shatter on the pavement. Why? Because as humans, we are naturally afraid of that which we do not understand, or really, of those whom we do not understand."

"I got a very clear view of how people can turn against their fellow Fernãoans just because of their beliefs after Senator Durand—" the audience booed and jeered, "after Senator Durand of the Civic Union decried the 'evils of Islam' and its 'sexist and homophobic doctrines.'"

"When you get someone to say such words in the Senate, or in any legal scenario, they must be swiftly prosecuted for their blatant insult to a group of people that only seek to live amongst us peacefully. I personally motioned the invoking of censure against Durand, and to this day, he remains the only Senator to ever be censured by the Senate."

"As for race, we all learned in history class about slavery. Those deep-rooted inequalities still permeate our society today, whether they take the shape of cultural stereotypes or racial profiling. Police discrimination is a major issue in Western countries like the U.S., and I will make sure that such demons never reach our shores, and the ones already here be carefully excised through better police hiring policies, nonconfrontational approaches to minorities, community circles with policemen and women and victims alike and a ban on stop-and-frisk, which is about as profiling gone wild as it can get."

"What is on my mind, my opponent asked in his recent ad? I'll tell you what's on my mind: making sure that if you're a minority in this country, you don't get stopped-and-frisked on the way to a workplace that you may not attend the next day since you may be terminated on the basis of race, and come home late at night and be stopped by a policeman with his gun already out and pointed at your face. That's what on my mind, and I hope that the people of Ferdinand will understand that I can deliver on ensuring that. Thank you very much, and goodnight!"

At the same time, another round of radio ads begin to air, this time in urban areas:

Leopoldo Agramonte claims to fight for you. Is that true?

Well, we've already talked about him being a member of Soetoro's oppressive military...

But what about his track record in the Senate? No legislation, no meaningful co-sponsorships, no speeches and no participation in debate.

Alexios Viel has already proven himself to stand up to both party establishments to ensure that your voice is heard, and be an active member of the Senate to boot.

Alexios Viel turns his promises into real legislation for you and your family. What has Leo done besides give tough talk?

Vote for Alexios Viel for real action in Fortaleza.

Teenagers sneak into Senator Viel's rally and make police siren noises - the incident is covered widely on the news. Meanwhile, an anonymous PAC copies the candidates adverts, editing them with police siren growing louder and louder in the background.

North Fernão Post
Delivering Breaking News As It Happens

The North Fernão Post officially endorse the following senators in their respective races:
- Senator Dannon for FD-2
- Senator Agramonte for FD-4
- Senator Tamboli for SA-1
- Senator Singh for Central Fortaleza
- Senator Ford for Babri-at-large
- Senator Emmanuel Carvallo for Eastern Fortaleza

Dannon begins door to door campaign efforts

In what seems to be a effort to reach out to middle class voters, Senator Dannon's campaign for FD-2 is beginning a door to door campaign handing out flyers. The North Fernão obtained one of the flyers from one of the many volunteers participating in the campaign. The front features a message saying vote Dannon for a freer Fernão and the rest seems to detail some of Dannon's stances such as free trade, freedom to bear arms, and a limited government. Where is Dannon himself while this campaign kicks off? It seems he was at a soccer game. Local team West Ferdinand FC was hosting a charity tournament benefiting war orphans fro our recent civil war. The senator had this to say after the game "It was a wonderful cause and a wonderful game. WFFC played a great game and delighted all in attendance while raising money for those who lost their parents in the war. I would also like to announce that after meeting with the owner of WFFC and calling back to my former home of North Carolina in the USA, WFFC will be playing North Carolina FC in a weeks time for the benefit of disabled veterans of the civil war. 80% of the ticket sales will be used to help pay medical bills of those left disfigured by the war and the teams will also be signing balls that will be auctioned off. Thank you.".

Chetan Nagarkar signs a pledge to reduce homelessness in the city

- (Miliband, Fernão)

Chetan Nagarkar, candidate for Mayor of Fortaleza took time to visit a local community projected dedicated to feeding and housing people that have been left homeless, during his visit the Mayoral candidate helped staff feed the homeless patrons of the shelter, and listened to the tales of the volunteers as he helped sort the inventory of supplies and clean the mountain of plates and assorted cutlery left behind after every meal.

During the course of the day, Chetan Nagarkar also talked with several homeless residents and listened to their stories on how they ended up in their current circumstances with a majority of complaints leading back to the civil war and the subsequent lack of affordable and livable housing provided by the government or the private sector. At the end of the trip, Chetan Nagarkar signed a commitment to construct a mixture of affordable housing for purchasing and rent for the working and middle class of the city and said that he will return to the shelter every week to help the local volunteers.

In addition to this visit Chetan Nagarkar also visited a local bakery and confectionary, and was seen trying his hand at making some local hard candy before he gave a brief question and answer session to the workers and owners, during which he refrained from calling for a repeal of the Fernoan Capital Act but simply stated that it needed to be amended to give more powers to the local legislature.

Despite falling behind in recent polls Chetan Nagarkar remained optimistic throughout the day and during the Q&A session repeatedly reaffirmed his commitment to constructing affordable housing, supporting small and local businesses, improving local infrastructure and making it known to the wider international community that Fortaleza is ready and willing to accept international investment so that the local government could afford to transform the city into a city people can afford to live in comfortably.

Radio interview with Leopoldo Agramonte
Press-recorded dialogue (IH=Interview Host):
IH: Folks, we'd like to introduce you to a special guest here on the airwaves today. In the studio is none other than senate candidate Leopoldo Agramonte!

LA: *laughs* Thank you, thank you. You are much too kind. It is an honor, undoubtedly.

IH: The honor is all mine, sir. In the interest of time, we'd like to keep this fairly short, but the people are curious to hear your story.

LA: That is understandable. There's a lot to tell.

IH: Ah, yes. Well, it seems like you've popped out of nowhere in recent days. You've gained attention simply for being the Civic Union's dark horse candidate.

LA: Party politics have never appealed to me very much. I have just as much in common with the CU as I do with Pro Patria.

IH: So why did you choose the former?

LA: Because the CU has proven itself ready to govern. More importantly, it comes back with results.

IH: I'm sure that you're aware of recent ads criticizing your tenure in the Soetoro regime. What are your thoughts on this?

LA: It's ridiculous. Plain and simple. The media has little quarrel with denouncing any man who stood by their country in its darkest hours. You can see plenty of veterans at my rallies; many of them served under me during the civil war. They know my record, they know I can lead. Even today, men and women in Fernão's armed forces have gathered behind me to achieve victory once more.

IH: What about the numerous human rights abuses that occurred during that point in time?

LA: I never brought harm unto any civilian, nor have I treated a captive foe with malice. I can only speak for my own record; I was never aware of the regime's alleged misconduct.

IH: Is it true that your wife was a former communist agent?

LA: Goodness, no! That is little more than a rumor. She was made a widow during the war, and lived in communist-held territory until my flotilla liberated her hometown.

IH: I see. Other than that, what inspired you to run for office?

LA: That is an excellent question. I think back to the time I spent in America in the 1970's, and I remember this old Californian actor show up in the headlines. I was amazed that an actor could run for president! But not only that, I was amazed by the limitless potential of that country. I wanted to bring that sense of pride and strength back to Fernão. That is my ultimate plan.

IH: It appears as though our time is up. You heard it here folks, straight from the source. We expect to see more of our friend Agramonte very soon.
