A Parliamentary Coup?
- Abhilasha PatilThe corridors of power experienced an earthquake of enormous magnitude today in Fortaleza. In a bid to continue his quest to alter the Standing Rules of the Senate of Fernão, Minority Leader David Bloom of the RGA installed fellow RGA Senator and former President pro tempore Narcisa van Laren Cruyff in the chair of the Senate, initiating the Second Reading of his controversial amendment, blindsiding most of the members opposite. Incumbent President of the Senate Raj Jindal of the Civic Union appointed Senators Iyasu Isaias Mengistu of the Communist Party of Fernão and Michael Ferreira of the Coalition of Workers and Farmers as his president pro tempores upon his election. Bloom seems to have completely disregarded the actions of the Senate President and gone ahead with his own agenda.
Controversy over the amendment at hand seeks to bring the confirmation process from the small committee system where it now operates to the floor of the entire Senate.
Proponents say it will ensure efficiency and democracy by requiring nominees to appear on the floor of the Senate and field questions from Senators. Opponents are quick to harp that this is nothing more than an obstructionist play from the RGA which recently lost the Presidential election in a landslide. One argument is that by burdening the full Senate with the confirmation process will leave less time to advance to President Krishnan's agenda. Civic Union leader and Majority Leader Indira Gandhi was apoplectic when reached, denouncing her counterpart by saying that, "This is a brazen attempt by the RGA to launch a coup against the President of the Senate at worst, and at best a continuation of their partisan games that hurt Fernão more than anything. It's disgraceful, and the really should be ashamed of themselves."
Gandhi continued her remarks by adding, "Coming off of their attempts to block the quick passage of the Criminal Code, it's time someone said it. The RGA obviously have no care for Fernão or the citizens. They want to play partisan games and cause trouble. And quite frankly, it's disgusting when we have literal fascists in the streets cleaning up, doing more than the RGA has ever done. It's downright deplorable."
The story is still developing, and our offices are trying to reach Raj Jindal, David Bloom, Narcisa van Laran Cruyff and other related officials. We'll get back when we have more.

Fernão Poll Aggregator
Ferdinand Gubernatorial By-Election
Khan (CU) | 39.98%
Machado (FPM) | 36.26%
Achleitner (UA) | 21.60%
Fernandes (Ind.) | 2.16%
The race to be Ferdinand's next governor kicked off yesterday, after the Assembly impeached CTA incumbent Buddha Gonzaga and his deputy for gross fiduciary malfeasance. What was predicted to be a cinch for Civic Union candidate Shazeen Khan took an unexpected turn after Glauco Clemente Machado, running with Cristovao Matos's Fernão Phalanx Movement, soared in name recognition and early polls. His fundraising apparatus, with help from his party's volunteer wing, has raised a yet undisclosed amount that sources say exceeds $50,000 — enough to put a stop on fundraising for the rest of the campaign. Little campaigning has been seen from any of the candidates thus far, but pundits expect hard campaigning from Machado, plus a split in the vote from another candidate, may hand the Phalanxist the governorship.

Fernão Poll Aggregator
Ferdinand Gubernatorial By-Election
Khan (CU) | 54.32%
Machado (FPM) | 35.54%
Achleitner (UA) | 7.07%
Fernandes (Ind.) | 3.07%
A burst of fundraising and campaigning from the Khan campaign has spurred a sudden shift in the polls. With funding from undisclosed sources,
Khan kicked her campaign to the next level, with the now famous battle bus making rounds around the state and a new campaign strategy focusing on personality. While Machado supporters condemn the attacks on their candidate, they've proven effective among rural supporters,
especially former Gonzaga voters. Anabaptist Benjamin Achleitner has seen his support dwindle, shifting to give Khan to give her a comfortable lead with more than half the state suggesting intentions to cast their votes for her. Inside sources claim Khan is working on a cushion of small money donations, while an insider on the Machado team warned that money "isn't coming in like it was last week." With the campaign coming to a close, it remains to be seen whether the race has ended prematurely, or whether any of the candidates have a surprise up their sleeves.
