New Guernsey, Fernão

The fumes of the oil refineries choked and pained the campaigner. The sweat and torrential rains mixed with one another, flowing down the campaigner's face. Her back hurt bitterly, her thoughts twangs of regret drowned out by the stress of the matter and the closeness of the election. Yet she pushed on. One more door, she said. One more flier, one more call, one more street, one more town. That had been her credo in the closing hours of the election as she repeated it again and again, visiting more and more potential voters in this GOTV initiative. For every potential door was a potential decisive vote for Iyasu Isaias Mengistu and a vote for socialism and justice for the working man and woman in the Senate. And the staffer was nothing if not dedicated to her cause and to justice for the working man and woman she so dearly loved, for they were her brothers and sisters, her mother and father. And throughout New Guernsey, so many others repeated her credo as their own. And perhaps so did Iyasu Isaias Mengistu, although for him it was one more rally, one more interview. The election was tight, and so every call and knock they could make would have an immense impact on Fernão and its people.

One more call. One more door.

The Presidential election period has closed as of 6 minutes ago, meaning Atlantica's post was after the deadline. I'm not sure exactly how you're running things here, but thought I'd give you a heads up.

BREAKING NEWS: David Bloom campaigns for former Chief Whip Raghav Kshatriya

David Bloom gesticulating

- (Fortaleza, Fernão) David Bloom, Senate Minority Leader and RGA Parliamentary Leader, is holding a massive rally for Raghav Kshatriya. Kshatriya was the Red-Green Alliance's Chief Whip during the the early days of the Fernoan Republic. Kshatriya is the only candidate so far that Bloom has specifically campaigned for, other than himself.

Kshatriya's term as Chief Whip was highly controversial among many Red-Green Senators, but he was generally considered an ally of Bloom. Despite Kshatriya having taken a much less active role in the party since stepping down as Whip, Bloom and him remain close friends. FNN has discovered that, according to subway and train use statistics, Bloom's rally for Kshatriya is the largest of the entire election campaign, excluding those held by the presidential candidates.

Kshatriya is currently locked in a tight race with Raj Jindal of the Civic Union. FNN polls have indicated that Jindal is currently the slight favorite.

New Guernsey, Fernão

Iyasu Isaias Mengistu wearily yet jovially greeted the crowd, who surely felt the same emotions that he did. For these were farmers, a few even subsistence farmers; some of Fernão's poorest and most diligent men and women. Yet both Mengistu and his audience turned to a queer sort of acting for this campaign; Mengistu greeted and spoke to them energetically, whilst the crowd gave him their greatest whoop, jump and cheer. Mengistu, although usually long winded, verbose and grandiloquent, made this final rally terse and pithy given how rushed he was for time, as the polls were soon to close.

"Good people of Fernão, I greet you to day with nothing but endearment. There is no one who would better benefit from socialism and no one hurt worse by capitalism than you, Fernão's impoverished yet diligent and virtuous farmers who feed the nation. I greet you today I would consider it an injustice if my proposed agricultural policy is not campaigned for and presented in front of those who would benefit the most from it, as they should from any agricultural policy, the hardworking farmers and peasantry of this great nation. If you elect me as Senator, I shall strive with all my heart for land reform and extensive farm subsidies similar to the Brannan Plan!" The farmers cheered in joy, for Mengistu's staffers had been hard at work telling rural Fernão of the puported glories of the Brannan Plan, which had become a household name in rural southern New Guernsey and was seen by these farmers as a synonym for extensive government stipends that would lead to immense prosperity for themselves, their family, and their fellow farmers. Mengistu left the stage to a cascade of cheers, to travel back to his campaign headquarters in hometown of Wukro and anxiously awaiting the campaign results.

Shim Seo-yon gives final campaign speech
Claudia Brie, Fernão News Network | May 17 2017

Image

Shim Seo-yon has been bolstered by the endorsement of the GUW

Shim Seo-yon was out in the streets again today, the current Secretary of Public Works was spotted meeting with local citizens at a local festival in the regional capital that was established following the civil war. After attending several events, listening to the concerns of local citizens and handing out a series of awards to the local scouting company Shim Seo-yon also visited a nearby town hall and gave a speech to assembled supporters and nearby members of the public.

My fellow citizens,

As you know I have fought for workers rights since entering the political field, and as Secretary of Public Works, I have created legislation that would not only restore this nation's electrical infrastructure but would also create tens of thousands of long-term well-paid jobs in multiple sectors of the economy. It is one of the reasons that I am so proud to announce that I have received the official endorsement of the General Union of Workers.

In addition to the FEIA I also want to see the introduction of a strong living wage, the establishment of a single-payer healthcare system, the strengthening of workers rights and the implementation of a progressive taxation system that will ensure that the wealth of this nation is distributed fairly and not concentrated in the hands of the one percent. As Secretary of Public Works I have also recently announced the introduction of a new policy called the Fernoan Affordable Housing Act, this legislation has the established goal of ensuring that every citizen should be able to purchase or rent a home in the future and of course it will create valuable long-term employment opportunities in the construction and maintenance sectors of our economy.

In short a vote for the Red-Green Alliance is a vote for full employment, economic equality and a strong middle class!

Constituency SA-1
Aminah Hadi and her team are now leading a march through the region's capital city. Collecting large groups of people along the way to city hall, she and her supporters are chanting for change:

"We want equality! We want equality! We want equality!"

When asked by some reporters about this, Aminah Hadi shrugged and said "For far too long, workers has been oppressed by the wealthy elite. Now, they are standing up and they want change. Now. We will struggle and we will work hard to make sure that workers get the respect and rewards they deserve for their hard work. And we will never stop struggling,"

After commenting, she continues marching with her increasing number of supporters towards the middle of the capital, where city hall is.
Welcome to the People's Republic of Tasimah:

Television ads begin to air across the SA-2 constiuency.

[dark scenes, not happy] "Indira Tamboli calls the RGA hypocrites, while she promises to fight for working people but would help the rich. Who is the real hypocrite? Tamboli and the Civic Union would lower taxes on the rich and deregulate corporations so that they can exploit workers and consumers. Tamboli and Civic Union will take away government funding for services such as education. [mood becomes lighter] With RItesh Bell and the RGA, there will be better infrastructure, more jobs, better healthcare, and better schools. The rich will pay their fair share of taxes, the poor will be cared for, and the economy will work for all. Does the Civic Union really fight for you? No.
[pause]
RItesh Bell will."

"Hello! It's me! I'm still alive Fernao!"
Laughter
"Ha Ha. Alright lets get into the serious business. Fernao needs real change from the do nothing RGA."

"President Vig has done nothing. His party has done nothing. The RGA is a do nothing party."

"Fernao needs real change and the Civic Union is going to do it."

"We're going to actually introduce important legislation. We don't even have a tax code yet. What a sham!"

"But we need your votes. Especially in NG-3 for my good friend and ally Senator Aldean.!"

"Head out to the polls and vote for Aldean. Let's give the RGA a message. We reject their do nothingness. We want our representatives to do things!"

Carvallo then went on a tour with Aldean throughout NG-3. He took lots of selfies.

Alexios Viel, Senator of newly-named Amadora

TONIGHT, after a surprisingly polite and civil election between two ideological giants of the left and centre, a winner has emerged. With 72% turnout, 100% of municipalities reporting and 58.55% of the vote, the Portimão Today congratulates Senator Alexios Viel on his victory tonight, and we wish him luck in his future endeavours for the people of our constituency. CTA candidate Ferreira has not yet made a statement after ending with 41.45% of the vote.

Our correspondents from inside the Viel campaign headquarters described a "tense, nervous environment as the results came in on FNN." "Viel himself looked particularly agitated, his supporters and fans gathered in a large outdoors amphitheatre talking in hushed whispers," reported our own Fernando Riviera. "However, after the results were posted for Portimão and its surrounding areas, the gymnasium erupted into cheers and applause, with Viel's wife hugging him tightly — he'd crossed the 50% threshold."

Viel promptly took the podium as the final municipality reported, and FNN named him as the victor. Amid waves upon waves of applause, Viel stated the following:

"My friends, my friends! Thank you, thank you." He smiled and waved at his teary-eyed supporters, chuckling and pointing at a few individuals at random. He waited for what seemed like two minutes, until finally the applause began to subside.

"Well, my fellow Fernãoans, I'd like to thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent you in our nation's capital. I'd also like to give a friendly congrats to Mr. Ferreira for participating in our democracy, and for giving me that big fright when that one municipality came in." He chuckled, and his supporters laughed as they remembered his televised face when that municipality's vote had, for a moment, put Ferreira in the lead.

"But now, in all seriousness, now is the time for action. I am a man that follows through with his promises — when I ran in the RGA leadership election, I promised to amend the Party Charter to add a caucus, bill promotion system and detailed whip powers, as well as to provide a platform for the party. And guess what? The Red-Green Alliance has all of these things now!" The audience cheered and clapped.

"The promises I made on the campaign trail will become legislation put before the Senate — and unlike the Civic Union, this is more than just hot air out of Krishnan's mouth!" Boos and jeers rumbled the crowd at the mentioning of Krishnan.

"My Government Revenue Act is nearly complete with accruing support, and I've begun to work on a healthcare bill package with my RGA colleagues. We will provide the change that you deserve — for yourself, your family and your community. Never forget that."

"Thank you all for coming out today. I look forward to seeing you around FD-2 sometime soon — oh, I'm sorry, did I say FD-2? No no no, that name won't do. How about...Amadora?" The crowd roared their approval.

Viel chuckled. "Well then, my fellow Amadorans, I bid you goodnight. Have a safe ride home, and as always—"

The crowd and Viel yelled in unison. "Solidarity Forever!"

KRISHNAN ELECTED PRESIDENT BY A WIDE MARGIN
Carries Narrow Senate Majority; Urban Middle Class Proves Polls Right
Macro Robot, Elections Team | May 23 2017

Image
Krishnan celebrates at the Civics for Sarkar Association as news arrives that Vice President Ghadavi conceded.

ABKHIBAR — Riding a large turnout from Fernão's urban middle class, Senator Priscilla Krishnan was declared President of Fernão in a landslide early Tuesday morning, giving her a mandate to begin a new chapter in Fernão's history and open the nation's ailing economy to global investors. Krishnan is the first woman to lead Fernão in its known history.

Of the 12 million votes cast, the Elections Commission said, Ms. Krishnan won 7 million (or 59.18 percent), soundly defeating her opponent, Vice President Jayesh Gadhavi, who received 5 million votes (40.82 percent). Gadhavi conceded after results across Ferdinand started to come in, with ballots still being counted in the state of New Guernsey.

Turnout was heavy, with more than 74 percent of Fernão's 15.2 million voters casting ballots. Krishnan won handily in Sarkar with almost 66% of the vote, while in New Guernsey she picked up a low of 46%. Voters in urban areas, long predicted to vote for Krishnan, turned out in droves for the Civic Union leader, while her running mate, Beto Gonclaves of the CTA, pulled rural support from the Red-Green ticket.

Despite the healthy margin of victory, Ms. Krishnan will face considerable headwinds from both within and outside of the government. With confidence in public safety at an all time low since the 1990s, the president-elect will be expected to work with a narrow coalition majority to restore confidence in the government after President Vig's resignation late in his term.

"I am voting for Krishnan because she is a seyed," said Fazlolah Bahriye, using the honorific given to those believed to be descendants of the Prophet Muhammad. Mr. Bahriye, a citizen of Fernão living in Iran, offered a diatribe against politicians, saying that they promised many things but never delivered.

Other voters, especially younger ones, said they favored Ms. Krishnan for simpler reasons. "I want more personal freedom, a new beginning for our country," said Alsafyr Njil, 19. "I just want to live a normal life."

President Krishnan was sworn in Tuesday morning.

BREAKING NEWS: Report ― Beto Goncalves frustrated over misspelling of name
Alexander Gouda, Fernão News Network | May 23 2017

Beta Gonclaves joins in the work at a farm in the North of Fernão while campaigning

- (Fortaleza, Fernão) Despite just being elected Vice President of Fernão, Beta Goncalevs is not happy. According to an exclusive FNN report, Betã has become frustrated over the frequent misspelling of his name. Betã Goncalvse is the founder and leader of the Coalisão de Trabalhadores e Agricultores (Coalition of Workers and Farmers), a centrist populist party especially strong in rural Ferdinand. The Coalition has, somewhat controversially, partnered with the conservative Civic Union, with Conslaves serving as CU nominee Priscilla Krishnan's running mate.

A Gonathan aide spoke with us about the Vice President on the condition of anonymity. The aide expressed their concern for Googlaves, saying "The Senator has become increasingly angry about his name being misspelled. Even us, his own staff, do it far more often than we'd like to admit. One time I spelled it as 'Bae Gonorrhea'. I was so embarrassed! Sometimes I wish he had a simpler name. Something like 'David Bloom' or 'Bob Dole'. Anyway, you'd better spell his name right when you write your article!"

Here at FNN we'd never misspell Buddha Gonzaga.

74 percent of Fernão's 15.2 million voters casting ballots.

Can you just make up turnout numbers like that, especially in a situation in which there is a historically low actual turnout of RP members?

Can you just make up turnout numbers like that, especially in a situation in which there is a historically low actual turnout of RP members?

Numbers were based on parliamentary turnout. Feel free to disregard if you wish. I would use turnout as a proportion of the whole Senate, but it's hard to say how many people are necessarily members of the Senate.
