Senator Vig smiled and applauded with the rest of the senate as Indira Tamboli became President of the Senate. The two shared a glance and he nodded to her. If there was any other Senator with Indira's integrity, Vishal had yet to meet them.

Senator Null Bella staggered forward, hung over from a night of drinking and bruised and stitched from his altercation with striking workers at the scrap yard. "First I want to congratulate Indira on her VICTORY, and I look forward to assisting her maintain the Senate as a check and balance on the Eliots, er, President's power. Further, how do you convene a quorum on a vote taking place over days? The chairs in here aren't that comfy, and nobody brought sleeping bags. Vote for the President of the Senate and wait in here for days until everyone votes? I thought we were anti-slavery. I move that any Senator questioning the validity and integrity of Senator Tamboli's election be censured harshly."

We don't assume that voting actually occurs over the course of 24 hours. The quorum call is a purely IC thing (we've tried it before and it doesn't work to actually hold quorum calls).

Viel grimaced awkwardly. "Madam President, I would like to remind the honourable Senator that he should address the Chair when speaking in the chamber. As well, Madam President, I'd like to remind the honourable Senator that a there is no need for the President-elect to make a concession speech." He was clearly not enjoying the conversation, and was having scary flashbacks of his discussions with Durand.

"Madam President, I was attacked by socialist thugs at the Forteleza industrial park. I am concussed, and perhaps more irritable than I ought to be. But perhaps not. Our President-Elect was endorsing those violent strikers' actions while I was being assaulted. Senator Vig vowed solidarity with them. Meanwhile the business owners are unable to operate their business, indeed THEIR PROPERTY is occupied by these thugs, these terrorists. I respect Senator Vig's service in this body, but the fact of the matter is HE LOST. Senator Ophelia-Eliot's parliamentary skulduggery is obscene. Indira Tamboli is President of the Senate. It is a settled matter. We have to live with the results of..."

Senator Bella became dizzy and staggered back to his chair with the assistance of one of his interns. "We have to fight this madness!"

"Madam President, Senator Bella has directly impugned the dignity of Senator Ophelia-Eliot under Rule I, Clause D of the Standing Rules, as well as flat-out calling the people currently involved in the sit-in protest in Fortaleza 'socialist thugs' and even worse, 'terrorists', violating Rule XVIII, Clause H of the Standing Rules. Madam President, seeing both the continued breach of decorum and the evident lack of wellbeing by the honourable Senator, I request that he excuse himself from today's proceedings until he is well. If not, I request that he be removed from the chamber for the duration of debate."

"Madam President, I own quite a bit of stock in those scrap yard businesses. I do not own the title and deeds to the lands, but as a major investor, the cessation of work there is directly damaging my portfolio. The President-elect's statements have also caused a drop in the stock market. And, if being violently attacked for expressing a different political opinion isn't terrorism, then nothing is. The fact of the matter is those thugs, yes, thugs, are trespassing on property they have been asked to leave."

Snorting at Senator Veil, Bella continued, "I'm not a fan of government solutions anyway. The trespassers will be removed without debate. This is a property rights matter now."

At that, Senator Bella marched out of the Senate chamber with as much dignity as he could muster as his rising blood pressure made his wounded head throb.

Viel watched him leave, his face contorted in confusion and just a small sliver of amusement. Well, that was easy.

"Well, um...Madam President, with that seemingly taken care of, I request that we return to the matter raised by Senator Ophelia-Eliot regarding the Senate Rules Resolution."

"As well, Madam President, if it makes any difference, I second the motion made by the Majority Leader."

Indira took her place on the rostrum, and took the gavel into her hand. She felt it before rapping it a few times.

"Order."

New World Oceania wrote:"Madam President, I have been informed that a technicality is at hand. The presence of a quorum having not been ascertained before the vote, I raise a point of order that the election of the President of the Senate must be reconsidered."

"The point of order is not well taken, unless noted, quorum is assumed."

When the honorable gentleman returns, he will withdraw his offending remarks or be named."

"Madam President, I'd like to inform the assembled Senate and the Chair that Senator Bella of the Liberal Democrat Party and his associates have been charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, attempted murder and resisting arrest by the Fortalezan Police Force. As such, it is my opinion that censure would be in order — however, I ask of the Senate to refrain from acting on this knowledge until a judge has ruled on the case, seeing as a conviction would make expulsion in order. It pains me to know that a member of this venerable hall would engage in such criminal behaviour, but alas, such is the way of our politics."

Senator Null Bella enters the Senate chamber to gasps and a murmur of whispers. Bella mockingly sniffs his armpits and says "What?"

"Madam President, I understand that you wish for me to withdraw my remarks. If it will expedite the order of business past debating the merits of Senator Ophelia-Eliot's dismay at your election victory, consider my remarks withdrawn and the matter settled. As for the spurious arrest and absurd charges against me, I am confident that some trappings of justice and jurisprudence survive and thrive outside Forteleza, and my legal counsel is preparing a motion to change the venue of my trial to a decidedly less marsupial setting. I would caution my colleagues to refrain from slandering me further on the floor of this body."

ooc: I can determine what happens to my character and the losses he takes, just as other RPs determine their own battle casualties in "war" settings. If my participation in this RP is not welcome, I'd like to hear it from someone interested in posts other than their own. My character stands accused of "attempted murder" without ever once directing violence at anyone. Clearly we are in the setting of an extremely dysfunctional government and justice system, and I am roleplaying the effects of that upon my character. Who's going to determine his bail or pull court rulings from thin air or make up criminal and civil codes on the fly? You? Hells to the no-naw. I'm not godmodding, but it is glisteningly obvious who is. I suggest you cease your endless attempts to tell me how to play a game that lacks a rulebook, and find less inefficient uses of your typing skills.

You are in jail. You are standing trial before the Western District of Fernão, where Atlantica is the judge as confirmed by the Senate. This trial will be RPed.

You are not in this chamber right now.

Nulla Bellum, you are hereby WARNED for godmodding.

Godmodding in this instance is making up something ICly, in this case that bail was posted. Atlantica as judge never posted bail. You're still in jail. This RP does in fact have rules, whether or not you choose to follow them.
