Well, there's no recorded list of independents anywhere to my knowledge. It would be very difficult to track them all down. Either way, most independents tend to (not always, but often) either join a party or become inactive quite quickly. I don't think the big picture is too heavily affected.

Since starting an intensive university course and leaving home earlier this year, it's gradually become clear to me that I really can't commit any reasonable amount of time to the senate. This is really disappointing but pretty much unavoidable. I hope to be able to come back when things are more calm for me. I without a doubt should not have ran for the presidency and I've hurt the overall activity of the Senate by holding that office. Sorry for that.

Well the first reading is like a quasi cloture vote, if something is denied its first reading you can call it filibustered, even though that's an improper term.

Well I guess, but a filibuster is to delay a vote, or in the case of the Democrats for Gun Control, a protest for a lack of votes. Really it's just to waste time.

It'd be hard to make a filibuster work in the Senate though

I know what a filibuster is.

By denying a bill a first reading, you're essentially delaying it was my point.

Dude, we get it. You want to pull a Zodiac Kil-, sorry, Ted Cruz.

Verbal filibusters simply don't work on an online forum. Only thing that works is the things we already have in procedure.

Really the whole point of requiring a super majority to proceed to consider is to allow for consensus to built, not just to jam up the system.
