An Act to establish Elizian recognition of members of the International Community

§1 - Recognition of sovereign nations

1. Elizia shall recognize the following countries as legitimate, sovereign states
a. All full UN member states;
b. The Republic of Kosovo;
c. The State of Palestine;
d. The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.

§2 - Position towards other states

1. Elizia does not recognize the sovereignty of any other countries not specifically outlined in this bill, unless a subsequent bill amends the list;
2. Elizia will oppose the accession to the United Nations of any states it does not recognize.

"I wish to reiterate my comments made earlier in the Coffee Shop.

The Palestinian people are engaged in a fight for their rights, and I support them in their quest for an independent, free, Palestinian state. However, I cannot support the recognition of a government controlled by a terrorist organization, Hamas. We must support the Palestinian people, and even the PLO, but recognition of the Palestinian state at the moment assists Hamas's violent Islamist ideology. I cannot in good conscience vote for the bill at hand.

I must also note my objections to the actions of the State of Israel. They have murdered innocent civilians, bombed civil structures, and caused untold amounts of unnecessary damage. They must be held accountable for their crimes by the international community. As a Jew, it pains me greatly to see my people's country be so beset by jingoistic fervor. I know the spirit of tikkun olam will override this in time, and Israel will once again be a force for good in the world. We must be vigilant, be outspoken, and tell Israel their actions are not acceptable.

If it is called for, I will be happy to draft a bill that declares solidarity with the people of Palestine, supports the democratic efforts of portions of their government, and urges the global community to work together to bring peace to this region. I believe that this is what must be accomplished, and this is not accomplished through the recognition of statehood and bolstering of Hamas in the Gaza Strip."

Israel is among the few civilized nations residing in the Middle East, and I find it despicable that many in this chamber would condemn the Zionist movement for the typical mistakes of a civilized nation."

"Mister Speaker, I hope that the previous speakers believes that the Palestinian people are in fact civilized, and that he misspoke. To call them otherwise would be grossly inappropriate and inaccurate.

Also, I do contend that Israel's mistakes are typical of a civilized nation. Many civilized nations have oppressed people and killed civilians, but the manner in which the Israelis have done so has not been matched by many, as my recollection goes."
