Her son makes a goofy expression at him and sticks his tongue out.
The innkeep slowly steps out of the storeroom and leans over the bar. "I'm too old for this..." She lets out a yawn. "We're stockpiling as much food as we can get. If our boys in iron get their asses beat, which is a very likely possibility, we need to be ready for a long siege."
Cerril scoffs. "Serves you right for using mercenaries all the time. None of your troops have experience."

You should get ones like the ones I use, which are the best in the whole world! ...Well, best on the continent, at least. Baring the time they let an entire caravan get burned apart by gods know who..."

It wouldn't be a very dramatic shift from the current state of affairs. Charlette left the Wallaby again with little explanation.

The innkeep walks over with a wet rag, a bucket, and a bandage. "Might want to clean that up."

He looked up at her and took the items. "They just keep... Coming. Like we stirred a bee's nest. I broke my sword attacking one over the head... Like... Gods, what do they make their helmets out of?"

"Steel, and your swords are probably still bronze! Have you seen the officer uniforms? Capes are still standard issue! In 1015!"
Cerril sits next to the guard. "If you're hitting armored targets you'll want to look into an axe or a mace."

"Definitely, seeing as you're going against armored targets on what sounds like a regular basis." He leans forward and shrugs. "Could try snagging one off a dead body, or going after lighter targets. You've got wings! Use some hit and run tactics."

He scoffed. "Our commander threatened to beat anyone seen looting from the dead." He began to apply the bandage to his wound. "Although, hit and run tactics sound like a good choice."

"Your commander sounds like a dick." Cerril shrugs and leans back in his seat. "If you've got any talent for it, you should try a transfer to archery. Fire, get out of range, prepare another shot, and then fire again. Sure, it's not super-glorious, but it works."

"Well... Sure, it's safer, but being up front is so fun! Seeing all those crumpled bodies and cracked skulls... Sickening, yes, but also makes your blood rush!"
