Welcome to Nationstates Mafia!
(Original OP is Vasinoia. I just stole his OP.)
This game is played just like the mafia party game in real life... But with a twist!

Basics:

There are two three groups, the Villagers, the Mafia and The Cult. The Mafia
knows who the other Mafia are, and can converse outside the thread, via telegram or other purposes secret from the Villagers. The Villagers and Cultists cannot talk to each other outside the thread.

There will be 25 people max participating, all others are replacements to inactive players. Once everyone is signed up, I will send a telegram to you telling you your character, a description, and a role. Your Role determines if you're a Villager Cultist or Mafia, and if you have any special abilities.

The day phase starts first. Everyone will converse among each other, posting their theories, accusing each other, and giving evidence so others can agree with them. The Villagers try to find who the Mafia are, and the Mafia try to keep each other from being eliminated. Meanwhile, The Cult tries to summon an ancient god which will destroy the town and kill everyone.

Everyone can vote for whoever they want, whenever they want to be eliminated. But you have to vote like this:

They can only vote for one person at a time. In order to vote again, they have to post:

##Unvote: (Member name)

They HAVE to be bolded, or else your vote will not count. This is to help locate votes, and make the vote count much easier to update.

Once there is a majority of a vote for someone (More than half of current players voting for the same person) or if we reach a deadline where the votecount will automatically end, then that person gets eliminated and the night phase begins. Here, players with special abilities can telegram me who they are going to perform the action on. Also, each night the Mafia get to choose one person to eliminate from the Villagers. The final decision is up to the Mafia Leader, and he/she will telegram me who the Mafia are eliminating. Once night actions are sent (or if time runs out), I will post who the Mafia eliminated for that day. And the game will resume with the day phrase and repeat until the game ends.

The objective of the Villagers is trying to discover who the Mafia and the cultists are, the objective of the Mafia is to hide their identity, trying to make the Villagers eliminate other Villagers and Cultists instead. The game ends in three ways: The Villagers wins if they have eliminated every Mafia player and prevented the Cultists from summoning the ancient one, the Mafia win when they outnumber the Villagers and Cultists, Cultists win if they have completed their objectives which are needed to summon the ancient one.

The Objectives of the cult are:
1: Kill the librarian
2: -Have a cultist elected as mayor
OR
-Have a cultist inside the mafia
OR
-Kill All Mafia
3: ????
Once all 3 objectives are completed, the ritual starts. If one day passes without the cult leader dying, the cultists win.
Rules:

1. Unless you are a Mafia talking to another Mafia or have a Diplomat Role talking to others with the same role, no talking outside the thread about the game!
2. No editing posts! The best weapon the Villagers have against the Mafia is their posts, so don't edit them!
3. No personal attacks! This is only a game, and nothing more. Do not take it that seriously! I repeat, Do NOT take it that seriously!
4. Do not post after we have reached the said majority of votes, this is to save post space and to keep the thread from being spammed up.
5. Eliminated players may post a short "zombie" comment, such as "Go Villagers!". They may also come back during the night in form of ghosts and hunt the thread.
6. Bandwagon voting (Voting because someone else did), or voting for someone you don't like, or because that player is annoying, is frowned upon, as this game is supposed to be won on strategy (and going with plenty of hunches) Bandwagon voting will not get you in trouble, but it is not appreciated. Bandwagon is fun! Feel free to do it as much as you want!
7. If you must quit, and it is in the middle of the game, please telegram me. Do NOT announce it in the thread.
8. And, last but not least, Nationstates Forum rules apply.

If any of these rules are broken, you are at risk of a warning, or an auto elimination by a game mod.

Roles:

There's many roles in the game to make the game both a little more complicated, and a lot more fun.

Here is a list of all of the roles, and what side they are on.

Secret Agent, Villagers: This player is the one of the most powerful roles on the Villagers' side. Each night, they select a person to investigate and telegram their choice to me. At the end of the night, they get a telegram back from me saying that the player was either "Mafia" or "Villager". There is only one Secret agent.

Medic, Villagers: This person is also important to the Villagers, and a big target for the Mafia. Each night, he or she can pick a player to protect during the night from the Mafia, but he or she don't know if someone tried to eliminate them or not. There is only one medic. The medic also cannot protect his/herself.

Diplomats, Villagers, Cultists: Players with this role can talk to each other about the game privately outside the thread! There are only 3 Diplomats.

Roleblocker, Villagers, Cultists and Mafia: The player(s) with this role can select one person and use his or her skill to prevent the target from using his or her action at night (if they have an action.) There can only be 1 roleblocker on each side.

Surveillance Agent, Villagers: You are able to select one person each night, and follow him or her to see who he or she visits, although you cannot see what your target does. There can only be one Surveillance Agent.

Stealth Agent, Villagers: You are able to select one person each night and see what he or she does, although you cannot see who he or she does it to. There can only be one Stealth Agent.

Godfather, Mafia: This person is the head of the Mafia. Due to their experience, they are able to turn up as a Villager if investigated by a Secret Agent. Also, the leader decides who the Mafia will eliminate. Upon death, The godfather may choose another maffioso to take the role of a godfather.

Seductress, Mafia: This person may once in the game convert a non-mafia member into mafia member with or without the consent of the godfather. If a villager is chosen, he will become member of the mafia and his winning conditions change. If a cultist is chosen, he will be a mafia member but his winning conditions remain summoning the ancient one.

Librarian, Villagers: There is one librarian in the game. He must be killed as an objective for the cult. He will also learn the person(s) behind 1 role at the end of day 5. He may choose which role.

Vote-Counter, Villagers: There is one Vote-Counter in the town who may ONCE rig the elections and install whomever he wants as mayor, but not himself.

Cult Leader, Cultists: In charge of the Cult. He can deliver a short message to the other cultists via the OP each night. He is also the only one who knows the last objective needed to summon the ancient one. If killed, his role is transfered to another Cultist.

Sentinel, Cultist: The Only Cultist aware of every other cultist's Identity.



SPECIAL ROLES:

Mayor, Voted: During the night phase, everyone may telegram me the name of one nation to be elected Mayor for the next day. Whichever nation has the most votes becomes the Mayor for the next day phase, and he/she has two votes to eliminate a player. Both a mafia player or a villager could be elected Mayor, so be careful!

Each player can only have one of the above roles (Aside from the Mayor). It is best to keep all roles, good or bad, under wraps. You can roleclaim, real or fake, but it's best not to roleclaim at all. Only roleclaim if you feel you have been backed into a corner, and have to use it as your last resort. Also, Players with special roles should be wary of if they release their information, how much, or if they do at all.

A few quick, miscellaneous things:

-This game is mostly started off by a player saying something like “I’m a Villager!” And then everyone thinks that that person is a Mafia and votes to eliminate him. So some advice, DO NOT SAY ANYTHING LIKE THAT. You will most likely be eliminated.
-Mafia: Use your knowledge of who is one what side to your advantage in trying to frame the Villagers!
-Also, a quick explanation on the surveillance and stealth agents:
Let’s say Nation A is the medic, and he protects nation B. Let’s say that by chance, the Surveillance agent and stealth agent both are tracking Nation A. To the surveillance agent I would send a telegram like this: Nation A visited Nation B. To the stealth agent: Nation A protected another nation.
