Greater Mackonia wrote:"China is a giant which speaks softly, Mackonia is a dwarf who shouts loudly. Its not so much that the Macks are a particularly powerful or influential player in world affairs, merely that they have absolutely zero qualms about using what they do have to its maximum possible effect. They don't make threats or call embargos because they know it won't work...they send bombers and bags of anthrax. The word 'rogue state' got mighty tired after the Bush administration, but if there is one-its Mackonia. The country has openly withdraw from both the U.N and all its associated treaties, they manufacture stuff you'd only dream Saddam was cooking up in high school laboratories, they don't just finance terrorism-they commit it, Jo'burg, The Hague, Panama City, Mack filthy paws and claws all over them. There are camps-camps sir, wherein anybody who won't stoop as low as they in this rat-race they call a society is shipped off to and just killed. Well that's if you're lucky, some of the bastards get locked up and experimented upon because this is a land with diddly-squat laws on human experimentation...Regime change is a laughable fantasy here. Firstly half of Wall Street seem to have crap hidden in this hellhole, secondly the American people have never shown kindness at the ballots to those who send their sons to die in jungles for lost causes."

-Extracts from a State Department report by U.S envoy Harry Dean.

"The first time the Mackonians pulled the terror thing by air-dropping a bag of anthrax in Ashkera, it's rumored that they got a very sternly-worded letter.
The second time, according to Mackonian government, they received a cryptographically-signed list of dictators and warlords that vanished or died under uncertain circumstances, accompanied by the statement 'Cut it the f*** out.'
The third time, a very important Mackonian was found dead in his office from a single gunshot wound to the head three days later. All of his staff were missing and have yet to resurface, with the exception of the janitor, who was found in a bar in Barcelona, unable to recall the last six months.
The fourth time, they threatened to release an engineered superplague that would wipe every Cyrzarii from the face of the Earth. This significantly delayed the next 'incident', seemingly while the Mackonians decided whether they thought the Oversight Council was bluffing.
After the fifth time, the Ashkerans just started assassinating anyone in Mackonia that might be interested in attacking Ashkera, starting by order of most likely to attack times ability to attack and working their way down the list. They sabotaged weapons factories and bioweapon laboratories, sunk 'compromised' ships, captured suspicious Mackonian tourists abroad, and so on. Curiously, they did not actually release a superplague.
By the sixth truly major attack, war had become inevitable. Ashkera, which had been carefully cultivating relations with the major democratic countries, and also carefully influencing their elections, formed a coalition intent on finally getting rid of Mackonia once and for all.

This, of course, was all rendered irrelevant by the sudden arrival of the Technocratic Federation of America, which poured through a portal that appeared over Manhattan and soon made war with every country in the world."

"If a child learns early in life that he gets what he wants if he screams and raises a fuss, he carries that lesson into adulthood. This is simple logic. "Do not question the wisdom of Julissia Hickman... I'm not saying he's often right, I'm just saying: Don't question it. He'll throw a paddy... He doesn't like it when people have different opinions to him.
I'll have you know that Julissia has spent his entire adult life traveling the world and studying parenting habits, and has, through meticulous research established as scientific, evidence-based and peer-supported fact that most of the world's current stock of what he arbitrarily calls 'progressives' (frankly the definition of this word seems to be unique to the mind of Julissia, and as any thought bouncing around in that head, incredibly inconsistent, but can be broadly defined as: Anyone who's care for the fate of their fellow human is not so thoroughly overwhelmed by a paranoia towards government that is so extreme that in their minds legal limits on lead in childrens' toys is considered akin to the gulag, or anyone who thinks there should be a limit on what or who you can buy if you have enough money) have been raised in an anti-disciplinarian Eric Cartman/Young Ned Flanders manner. And that by contrast the world's conservatives, such as egotistic, loud-mouthed, fortune-inheriting, serial adulterers and tax evaders Newt Gingrich, Boris Johnson and Donald Trump were taught meticulously in the value of hard work and delayed and earned, long-term gratification....

... Either that or Julissia's full of shit, and is projecting without evidence, every esoteric, unrelated negative trait he can think of onto a bizarre, imaginary subset of society he can blame for all of life's problems...

... Or on an even sadder note he was beaten as a kid and is trying to turn his troubled childhood into some sort of moral superiority to hold over children with loving or competent parents."

Fair enough. I figured there would be similar stunts going the opposite direction in one of those "escalating reprisals lead to war" scenarios, I just didn't mention them. Ashkera is more risk averse.

The winner, of course, was deliberately not specified.

@Ashkera: That scenario also has been canonically established in this very thread a long way back before all these multiversal empires arrived on the scene. Indeed its the reason why the previous scenario could not take place.

"We missed out an more hypothetical inter-dimensional occurrences in East Asia...that other place we look at in paranoia. Not that much happens in this timeline. China and India briefly enter a shooting war which results in a quicker-than-expected stalemate. South-East on a whole progress but not as much as expected, they're still weary of that eternal giant China whose hyped growth eventually got to uneventful levels. Japan the Hikikomori had problems accepting immigrants in the millions fully and it's aging crisis hit critical points by the 2100s, coupled with the new-found and obviously multiethnic drama as opposed to the 'homogeneous' drama before it.

I forget the future. Hold on...I think the robots and immigrants explain the Butlerian Jihad and the acceptance of Zensunni."

"Eh, in reality a child learns nothing from the stick except how to avoid it, and there are more ways to do so than just giving in. Because people are supposedly better there's supposed to be some thing to learn between the crude stimuli but that would require an actual creation of morality that isn't solely a response to cause-and-consequence and resulting restraint in social situations. Impossible. At the core a person is an animal turned into a person when interacting with other people and learning how to do it; Applied Behavior Analysis.

No, he was a self-important academic who used his baby daughter as a test subject. But what does that matter?!
