"When you're at war with a galactic power you rekt in your previous war, but they just rebuilt a million ships from scratch like 20 years ago, and the other galactic superpower starts to flood both of you with literally a trillion mindless troops that kill everything they see."

"While it is fundamentally true that the vast majority of Californians speak Britannic, the vast majority of us also have at the very least a passing conversational understanding of Navajo. Yeah, you multiversals can laugh now at the fact the secret language of some of our equivalence isn't so secret here. The answer to that? We just used another one, because California is a very big place, and a lot of people live here, who have never had their language heard by non-Californians. Down south you also find plenty who speak of all things, Zhongren or Sunese, and yes, there's a fair share of Cristobellan." - Fredrick Wilson, Citizen on the intricacies of Californian tongues.

We used Shoshoni instead, for those wondering.

"Of the most decorated units of the Federated States Army the number of which is thirty three, twenty seven are National Guard. So maybe you just want to rethink how you feel about us weekenders." - Second Lieutenant Gary Salas, F.S.A.

"People who make jeers and jests at my divination teacher should keep something in mind. She does not drink to See. She drinks because she Sees." - Cornelius Andius, on faculty troubles at the Academy.

"Disregarding that we're nearly a magocracy, even if a mage secluded himself from the 'normal' world on a voluntary basis and only associated with other, fellow magi, he'd inevitably find himself affected by the laws and statutes passed by the 'normal' government, as they affect all the peoples of the nation. The veil, or the masquerade or whatever else the British call it is bullshit for a simple reason, at the end of the day. The Minister of Magic still reports to the Prime Minister so what the hell is the point in hiding, again?" - Arthur Kerrain, Professor of Astral Mechanics at the Academy

"Stars and crescent moons in unnatural colors, Rising Suns borrowed from Japanese paper-trash, sketching of Las Menina or the Gioconda sticking out like clumsy photos and being signaled out in print similar to a Coca-Cola advert. Adverts, they think adverts are art! Their civil wars and the war with the USA must have damaged their minds."
-Juan Manuel Pérez Ruiz, Spanish art historian, 1900

"Transcendence is the key word here. All the critics say it's not profound, that it's not transcendent- but what do the Academies of the Old World know? What common person has heard of Brunelleschi or Winkelmann? The high-browed want meaning to deny meaning to everything else that can be used to form memories. Why settle for one masterpiece where there can be millions? There's no point in having any memory if it won't be shared, information exists to be shared. Culture is the basic technology to share memory, and our technology must better theirs."
-Carlos García Laín, Palmeran "graphic-technician", 1900

"I believe wholly in meritocratic society. I do not care about who your parents were, what station in life you hold, what religion you practice, or what language you speak. How well you perform in life, how good a person you are, depends on character, and that alone determines how well you will give back to society."

~ Juho Halvorsen, Head of the Folkparti, addressing the legislature. Despite their name, which translates into English as People's Party, the Folkparti are a conservative liberal party.

"All my foreign friends are terrified for my safety, and keep telling me that I should leave the country, but I don't know what they're talking about. Sure, I have to carry at least 1 firearm at any time I go outside and sure, disgruntled anarcho-communists call me a capitalist scumbag, but I don't hear my employees complaining. They have bed and board, get a fair wage, and know that and my complex has the latest in fortification systems. Hm? No, sorry, they aren't available for comment. What do you mean this is a human rights investigation? Are you accusing me of practicing slavery? STATIST SCUM GET OUT OF MY COMPOUND!"

Anonymous business owner, shortly before ejecting the WA human rights investigation committee.

Investigations continue, though evidence suggests at minimum partial voluntary employment.
I'm not actually an anarchist, but I refuse to limit most liberties and ended up like this. It's not so bad, honest. Treat the nation as an Anarchy or a large union of smaller states, either is fine by me. Liberty is my only goal. Nation Stats are canon.

Libertarian North America is the North American Continent following a cataclysmic collapse of governments in all countries on it. The most developed areas are along the coasts and lakes, and the many communities rely heavily on trade to get by. This precarious situation has led to groups that would otherwise be openly hostile to reach a mutual agreement of non-aggression to preserve the peace. It's complicated, it's precarious, it's needlessly contrived, and the inhabitants of the LNA wouldn't have it any other way.

"Perception is rather important, one might say all-encompassing. You would be surprised how many people see a flag done all in crimson red and midnight black, and just assume we must have this horrible, oppressive government. The memories of a project I had to do on 12th-13th Century Medieval British bestiaries for a Middle Ages history class last semester. Endless nights of looking between pictures of an elephant with a tower on it and an elephant fighting a dragon that varied between manuscripts to find the "first" one only to stupidly realize the iconography had Anglo-Normandic origins probably closer to French tradition...and then remembering that Louis IX gave a real elephant to the king of England as a present. No more! No more!
